Obeying God and Obeying Human Beings

Gospel Thoughts

*Easter Season : Second Week - Thursday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 3:31-36*

*FIRST READING - Acts 5:27-33*

*Obeying God and Obeying Human Beings*

*1) We must obey God rather than men*

Peter and other Apostles were put in prison for preaching about Risen Christ.

They were threatened by the Authorities not to speak about the Risen Christ.

To this Peter says these beautiful words *We must obey God rather than men*

To this the authority became very furious and wanted them to put to death.

*2) Obeyin God is very Important*

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom

By obeying God, we will be blessed and we will chose the right path all the time

By obeying God, no harm happens to ones life

Obeying God is a great Blessing

*3) To obey God one needs tremendous Courage*

We see this particular aspect in the life of Peter and other Apostles.

Only the courage makes them to obey God rather than men.

At times while obeying God, one gets lots of enemies from his/her own close circle. So to face this one needs tremendous courage

People like Mother Theresa, Fr Stan Swamy, and Rani Maria of our times showed a tremendous courage in obeying God.

*4) Various ways of Obeying God in our day to day life*

Following the Commandments of the Lord

Forgiving one another

Facing the challenges of life and not running away from the challenges

Trying to practice the values like humility, generosity, faithfulness, courage, simplicity sacrifice, so on

*5) Obeying Men*

The following are some of the ways through which one shows his/her obedience to men

One who is greedy for money, wealth and possessions

One who is selfish in his/her approach

One who manipulates in order to cheat another

One who follows the wordly standards

One who is obsessed with bodily passions

All these things show that one is more obeying Men rather than God.

*6) What's my Choice?*

Who do I obey?

Do I obey God or to Myself or to the pomp and Glory of this World?

At times we obey to our anger, greed, selfishness, bodily pleasure and other worldly things

So what is my choice??

*Think about it*

Go and take your place in the temple area

Gospel Thoughts

*Easter Season : Second Week - Wednesday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 3:16-21*

*FIRST READING - Acts 5:17-26*

*“Go and take your place in the temple area*

*1) Angels voice to all of us*

God's Angel came down and opened the Gates of the prison

Then Angel told them to move out of the prison and to take the place in the temple area

As angel commanded, the Apostles moved out of the prison and took their place in the temple area.

*2) Prison and Temple area*

Prison is a place where there is no freedom and there is restrictions.

One feels suffocate in the prison.

Temple area is a holy place where one feels free

Temple area is also a place of experiencing God.

*3) Christians are supposed to be in the Temple area*

Our proper place is the temple, a place which helps us to experience God and to live a holy life

Temple area helps us to be with God and to live according to God's will.

So we are supposed to be in the temple than in the prison

*4) Am I living in the Prison?*
All of us should reflect about this fact

Am I living in the prison or in the Temple area

The more I attach my self to the worldly things I allow myself to live in the prison.

The more I struggle to live a holy life, I try to come out from the Prison.

The following are some of the prisons in our lives

The prison of sin
The prison of hatred
The prison of Doubt
The prison of pride
The prison of greed
The prison of arrogance
The prison of gossip

The angel of the Lord says *Go and take your place in the temple area,*

Am I ready??

*Think about it*

*God bless you and your family. Praying for you and your dear ones*

Birth from Above

Gospel Thoughts

*Easter Season : Second Week - Tuesday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 3:7b-15*

*FIRST READING - Acts 4:32-37*

*Birth from Above*

*1) ‘You must be born from above.’*

These words are found in today's Gospel

Jesus says these words to Nicodemus.

If so there must be special meaning for these words

*2) Birth represents new Life*

Birth has a special meaning

It indicates a new beginning

It indicates new life

It indicates new direction

It indicates new way of life

It indicates newness and creativity.

*3) Birth from above*

We always see good things from above

When we think about God, heaven and other great things we look above

So the word *above* represents something great and good

*4) What are these above things?*

From the teachings of Jesus, it is clear that the above things represent the following things

Love
Sacrifice
Sharing
Service
Faith
Forgiveness
Humility
Simplicity
Hard work
Generosity

All these things belong to the *Above* group. Accordingly, when Jesus says *You must be born from above* we need to take birth in these above things

*5) Birth from above is a continuous process*

Birth from above is not a single event

It is a life long process, which needs to be paid attention in order to bring change in ones life

Birth from above can't be a finished product. It is always in the mode of becoming something.

*6) Am I ready to be born from above?*

This birth is must. With out this birth there is no meaning to our life

The *birth from above* is a great process in our life

If so, am I ready to be born from above?

*Think about it*

*God bless you and your family. Praying for you and your dear ones*

Ways of Proclaiming the Gospel, in my Life

Gospel Thoughts

*Easter Season : Second Week - Monday*

*Feast of the Evangelist - Mark*

*GOSPEL -  Mk 16:15-20*

*FIRST READING - 1 Pt 5:5b-14*

*Ways of Proclaiming the Gospel, in my Life*

*1) Command of Jesus*

*Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature*

The above command of Jesus, gives us a special mission, which we need to carry out in our day to day life

So what are the some of the effective ways, through which we can, proclaim the Gospel?

*2) Various ways of Proclaiming the Gospel*

*A) Through my exemplary way of Life*

Action speak louder than words.

A good, disciplined, and value based life itself is a great proclamation

*B) A life built on Service*

Another powerful way of proclaiming the Gospel.

For example, Mother Theresa

*C ) Life based on Gospel values*

The Gospel values like, forgiveness, humility, sharing, service, sincerity, generosity, goodwill will make our life and real and effective way of proclaiming the Gospel

*D) Life based on Prayer*

A life, which is rooted in the prayer, becomes very effective.

So this becomes a powerful way of proclaiming the Gospel

*3) Am I ready to proclaim the Gospel?*

At times we think that proclamation is the mission of priests and sisters

But the mission of proclaiming the Gospel is given to every one.

So each one has to proclaim the Gospel through words and deeds

So it is not a choice but it is a mission.

*4) What are my ways of proclaiming the Gospel in my day today life?*

Service?
Generosity?
Helping hand?
Forgiveness?
Sacrifice?
Love?
Sincerity?
Well disciplined life??
Simplicity?
Availability?

*Think about it*

The Speciality of the Doubt of St Thomas

Gospel Thoughts

*EASTER Season : Second Sunday of Easter*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 20:19-31*

*FIRST READING - Acts 5:12-16*

*SECOND READING - Rev 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19*

*The Speciality of the Doubt of St Thomas*

*1) He Gets a new Name*

Because of the Doubt of St Thomas, gradually he was called as Doubting Thomas

So His doubt gave him new Title

*2) His Doubt was rather Strong*

The details from the Gospel give us the impression that, Thomas' doubt was rather strong.

*Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”*

The above details tell us that, it was not sufficient for Thomas to see Jesus but wanted to touch and that too the wounds in a particular place

So this shows the depth of Thomas' Doubt

*3) Thomas Could not see Jesus in Doubt*

As long as Thomas was in Doubt, he could not see Jesus

All other disciples had seen Jesus, but Thomas could not see. One of the reasons could be, his doubt.

*4) Thomas didn't remain in Doubt*

Thomas' doubt was for a short period of time.

Once he came to know the reality, he had no problem with the doubt

Later His belief in Jesus became so strong that he became a martyr for the Lord

*5) The Blessing of the Doubt of Thomas*

In the final analysis we can say that, doubt of Thomas became a blessing to Him and to others, and not a problem.

When there was a doubt, Jesus himself solved the doubt, which gives a powerful message to the Entire world

So Thomas' Doubt became a blessing rather than a problem

*6) My Life and Doubt*

Doubts are common to every one. All have doubts in one thing or the other

Since doubt kills the peace of mind, as long as doubt reigns, there can not be peace at all

Doubt kills a person little by little and makes the situation and life worse

If so, do I want to remain in doubt?? Or do I want to come out of the Doubt.

Doubt is a choice, and not a problem to solve.

Once chooses to doubt or to live in peace. Life depends on what we choose. Faith gives authenticity to life, doubt ruiens ones life

*7) Whatever is done with doubt is sinful - Romans 14:23*

When one is in doubt can't choose right thing.

Doubt always makes us to choose wrong things

So in doubt one commits sin

Do I want to remain in Doubt?

What is the level of my Doubt?

*Think about it*

Why Risen Christ first appeared to Mary Magdalene?

Gospel Thoughts

*EASTER OCTAVE*

*Saturday*

*GOSPEL -  Mk 16:9-15*

*FIRST READING - Acts 4:13-21*

*Why Risen Christ first appeared to Mary Magdalene?*

*1) She was first to Reach the Tomb*

Among all other disciples we see Mary Magdalene is the First one to reach to the tomb.

After Jesus had been laid in the Tomb, on the second day there is no reference that some one visited the Tomb

But Gospel says on the Third day, early morning Mary Magdalene reached the Tomb, before everyone else.

*2) She was first to search for Jesus*

Among all other disciples, Mary Magdalene stands out in her Search for Jesus

After the death of Jesus, she felt a deep sense of loss and emptiness of her beloved, and she didn't want him to lose in any way.

So she searches for Jesus before every one else and that is why she comes to the tomb, before everyone else

*3) She was first to take courage*

After the death of Jesus, His disciples were terribly frightened. That is why they were found in the closed room, because of the fear of the officials

But here is a lady who, takes a special courage to visit the tomb of Jesus, still it was dark, and does not mind any one that she would be recognised as the disciple of Jesus

Coming to know that some one is the disciple of Jesus means a kind of risky situation. But she does not care for it. Amidst all fears, she courageously walks to the tomb to meet Jesus

*4) Her Sorrow and emptiness was special among all other disciples*

Mary Magdalene felt a special type of sorrow and a kind of emptiness, which was different from the other disciples.

This sorrow and emptiness made Mary Magdalene all the more to search and to cling to the Risen Lord.

Her Sorrow and emptiness were the forces to search for Jesus, which make Mary Magdalene a special person

*5) She showed herself that Jesus is everything for her*

Once she  experienced  Jesus, she always remained with Jesus.

Her life showed that Jesus was everything for her and with out Jesus there is no life. That's why she was in search of Jesus

All these things might be some of the reasons why Jesus appeared first to Mary Magdalene.

*6) Mary Magdalene is a Model for us*

She is the model for searching for Jesus

She is the model to experience the Risen Lord

She is the Model to proclaim the Risen Lord

She is model to learn how to remain faithful to Jesus

She is the model to desire for Jesus in our day today life

If so, am I ready to adapt the methodology of Mary Magdalene??

The Importance of the Sea of Tiberias in my Life

Gospel Thoughts

*Easter octave*

*Friday*

*GOSPEL - Jn 21:1-14*

*FIRST READING - Acts 4:1-12*

*The Importance of the Sea of Tiberias in my Life*

*1) Sea of Tiberias : A place of Revealing oneself*

The Sea of Tiberius is very important, because Jesus revealed himself to Disciples, for the third at the sea of Tiberius.

Since Jesus chose this place to reveal himself to His disciples, this place becomes very important even to our life, because this must help us to identify a similar place to experience Jesus in our context

*2) Sea of Tiberius : A meeting Point*

This sea becomes a place where God and Man encounter each other, which gives a new experience to the Disciples.

A place which facilitates the encounter of Man and God, becomes a very important place and such a place can be considered as a holy place

*3)  Sea of Tiberius : A working Place*

For the disciples it was a fishing place, for which they had come there. As soon as they came there they started fishing, whole night, but cought  nothing

For Jesus also it was a working place, a work which would help the disciples to recognize the Risen Christ

As such it should also become a working place in our life to experience the Risen Christ.

*4) Sea of Tiberius : A place of friendly meal/breakfast*

A meal or a breakfast is a symbol of unity, love, and a special type of relationship.

The very fact, sea of Tiberius became a place of meal, it highlights the importance of love and relationship, which is very important in our life

A place where we eat together should be considered as a holy place and a place of new relationship.

*5) Sea of Tiberius in my life*

After realising the importance of the sea of Tiberius, it is very necessary to identify the sea of Tiberius in my life

*Sea of Tiberius : My family*

Family is a best set up to experience all the things which happened at the sea of Tiberius.

Meeting point of God and Man
A place of revealing oneself fully to the other
A place of Working
A place Eating together

*Sea of Tiberius : My neighborhood*

We should consider our neighborhood, and the neighbors, who are living in the same vicinity, as the sea of Tiberius, because it should help us to experience the above four things

*Sea of Tiberius : My Church and My Ward*

Once again these are beautiful places to experience the Risen Christ, in our daily life. These are the place also to carry out the above mentioned four things

*Sea of Tiberius : My working place*

Much of our time we spend in our working place. So this place should become like a sea of Tiberius, where we can experience the Risen Christ.

When we do our duty faithfully and in a sincere way we are able to experience all the above mentioned 4 things which will help us to experience the Risen Christ.

*If So how is the Sea of Tiberius in my Life??*

*Where is the sea of Tiberius in my life?*

*Am I willing to remain in the Sea of Tiberius??*

*Think about it*

Repentance and Forgiveness in the Name Jesus, begins from Jerusalem

Gospel Thoughts

*EASTER OCTAE*

*Tuesday*

GOSPEL - Lk 24:35-48

*FIRST READING - Acts 3:11-26*

*Repentance and Forgiveness in the Name Jesus, begins from Jerusalem*

*1) Repentance and forgiveness in the Name of Jesus*

Repentance and forgiveness is at the center of Jesus' preaching

He started His ministry with the word *Repentance* and concluded His earthly ministry with the Word *Forgiveness*

Lord forgive them, because they don't know what they are doing

So repentance and forgiveness can be preached only in the name of Jesus and these things can be practiced only in and though Jesus' name

Jesus' name has tremendous power, which can inspire people to repent their lives and to experience the power of forgiveness.

*2) Jerusalem is the Beginning point of Jerusalem*

The last word *Forgiveness* comes from the Cross and that too from Jerusalem.

What Jesus has proclaimed on the Cross we need to continue the same

So the mission of Forgiveness has to continue from the Cross and Cross is found in Jerusalem.

So the starting point becomes Jerusalem for repentance and for forgiveness.

*3) Where is my Jerusalem?*
There is no doubt that the mission of repentance and forgiveness has to start from Jerusalem. If so where is that Jerusalem in my life?

*The following areas would represent Jerusalem in my life*

*A) First of all it is my life.* First of all I need to forgive myself and that is beginning point of forgiveness in my life

*B) My family* we should turn our family into Jerusalem, in order to, inspire on another and to practice forgiveness

*C) My neighborhood*

Turn your neighborhood into a new Jerusalem where there forgiveness of sins

*D) My work place* is a real Jerusalem where one could experience the forgiveness of sins

*E)  My parish and community*

How beautiful it would be if, my community or the parish becomes a new Jerusalem, where there is only repentance and forgiveness sins reigns

*4) Do I preach and practice forgiveness of Sins?*

Christ did, whatever he said, while he was living on this earth.

There is no dichotomy, between what Jesus preached and practiced

In my Jerusalem, do I preach and practice the forgiveness of Sins and repentance?

How can I turn my life, my family and my surrounding places into Jerusalem, where the new mission of repentance and forgiveness of Sins?*

What am I discussing these days?

Gospel Thoughts*

*EASTER OCTAE*

*Wednesday*

*GOSPEL -  Lk 24:13-35*

*FIRST READING - Acts 3:1-10*

*What am I discussing these days?*

*1) "What are you discussing as you walk along?”*

The above question is found in today's Gospel.

I think it is very important to pay attention to this particular question and to reflect about the things that we are discussing these days.

This reflection will help us to know about what we are concerned about and  to know the things, which we need to pay attention.

*2) Two disciples of Jesus*

These two disciples of Jesus were on the way to Emmaus.

On their way to Emmaus, they were busy discussing about the passion, death and the resurrection.

This was the central point of their discussion.

*3) What Jesus was talking about?*

The Gospel says that Jesus appeared to His disciples, on the Way to Emmaus.

As Jesus began His dialogue, He started to explain to them How this plan of God, scarifying His son on the Cross.

So the main point of discussion was the passion, death and resurrection.

*4) The Disciples of Jesus*

Once these two disciples went and communicated the great news of resurrection, the disciples began to think about the passion, death and resurrection.

So they waited until Jesus met them in diffent places and in different times, and them started to proclaim the same

*5) Early Christian community*

The early Christian community was busy in discussing, about Jesus passion, death and resurrection.

Wherever they went, they took the crucified Christ and started to proclaim and reflect about the great mystery of Christ.

*6) What am I talking about, today?*

We saw different people who were discussing at diffent times and diffent places

But the the Subject Matter of their discussion, was the mystery of Christ

What am I talking about today?

My achievements
My Glory
My pride, my views
My plans, my life and health
My problems, tensions and worries

*7) Easter is a best time for discussion*

The name Easter clearly indicates that we are suppose to discuss about the Passion, death and resurrection

We are Easter People, and Alleluia is our song. So we need think, reflect and discuss about Jesus

*So what is the Subject Matter of my Discussion these days?*

Fact remained as fact, Story remained as Story

Gospel Thoughts

*Easter Octave : Monday*

*GOSPEL - Mt 28:8-15*

*FIRST READING - Acts 2:14, 22-33*

*Fact remained as fact, Story remained as Story*

*1)  The great fact*

The great fact is that, Jesus has been raised from the dead and He dies no more.

Jesus who proclaimed the Kingdom of God, here on Earth was, suffered and finally was crucified and he died on the Cross.

On the Third day, He was raised to life and appeared to His disciples.

This Risen Jesus will reign for ever and ever

*2) The Story*

The story is that, the body of Jesus was stolen by the disciples of Jesus.

And the view that He has been raised to life is a false story, which has no base at all.

The cause of this created story was the large sum of Money and the greed for money

So this is the created story of the guards and chief priests

*3) The fate of the Story*

The story remained as a story among those who were opposite to Jesus

To this day the story is found among some of the Jewish people and they think that the story is true

Those who believe in the story is a small minor group, which does not disturb the faith of the people

*4) The power of the Fact*

The fact remains as a fact.

This fact is proclaimed by the millions of people and, this fact is accepted by millions

No one was able to succeed to prove this fact as wrong, but many have experienced a divine power by accepting the fact and proclaiming the fact

The entire catholic faith depends on this fact and no one could shake this faith, so far

So it is very important to know the power of the fact

*5) Fact or Story*

Fact is fact. Story is story

Those who accepted the fact became great, had wonderful experience of God.

Those who remained only at the level of story, had nothing in their life to experience

Is my Christian faith a story or a fact to me?

Is my belief system a fact or story to me?

Is my life a fact or a story to me??

The Search for Risen Christ

Gospel Thoughts

*Feast of Easter*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 20:1-9*

*FIRST READING - Acts 10:34a, 37-43*

*SECOND READING Col 3:1-4 or I Cor 5:6b-8*

*The Search for Risen Christ*

*1) The Search for Jesus*

The Gospel of the day presents to us the theme of the search for Risen Christ

All the people in the scene, give us the same message that, they were in search of Jesus

This search shows us, how much they valued Jesus and how much they were feeling empty because of the absence of Jesus

*2) The Search by Mary of Magdala*

She was desperately looking for Jesus. Therefore early in the morning she came in search of Jesus

Still it was dark, yet she could visit the grave yard of Jesus, because by all means she wanted Jesus

Once she reaches near the tomb, she sees that the stone which was kept at the entrance was removed.

She was shocked to see this scene and she thought that some one has taken away the body of Jesus

So she ran back to communicate the message to the disciples

In her search finally she finds the Risen Lord, with the Help of Peter and John

*3) The Search by Peter*

When he heard from Mary, that the body of Jesus had been taken away by someone, He ran immediately without wasting time to verify the things

Even though he could not run fast, he tried his best to reach as early as possible.

When he reached the tomb, as Mary said  it was open. So he straight away went inside the tomb and saw some important things

With the Help of the scene inside the Tomb, Peter realised that Jesus had been Risen and he is no more in the Tomb.

The search finally gave the best result,  the fact that is Jesus is Risen

*4) The Search by Beloved disciple - John*

When he heard from Mary, that the body is not found in the tomb, He ran fast.

His speed was so much he reach first  and Peter reached second

When he reached near the tomb, he peeped inside the tomb, and found that the tomb is empty.

Even then he didn't enter the Tomb. He waited for the other disciples.

When Peter entered the He also entered and found, that Jesus is Risen as He said, when He was living

Finally all of them ended up, in having the experience of the Risen Lord.

*5) Where is my search?*

What about my search for Risen Christ?

Is there a vigour that of Mary of Magdala, the quickness of Peter and John, and the urgency of the disciples?

Am I running towards the right direction to find the Risen Lord, or my direction itself is wrong?

Will I be able to find the Risen Lord, during this Easter Season??

Risen Jesus met on the way, while they were going to proclaim the Good news

Gospel Thoughts

*Holy Saturday*

*GOSPEL -  Mt 28:1-10*

*FIRST READING - Gn 1:1-2:2 or 1:1, 26-31a*

*Last Reading - EPISTLE Rom 6:3-11*

*Risen Jesus met on the way, while they were going to proclaim the Good news*

*1) Women in search of Jesus*

Early Sunday morning those women who loved Jesus, came in search of Jesus

They were not frightened about anything, because they were in love with Jesus and they wanted to see Jesus by all means

So they came in search of Jesus, near the tomb, where he was laid to rest three days before

*2) A special scene at the Tomb*

When they reached to the tomb, they saw some unusual things.

The tomb was already opened, and the rock had been rolled back from the entrance of the tomb.

When they peeped inside the tomb, they didn't find the body of Jesus

But they saw two angels who gave them the good news of the Risen Christ

*3) Angels request to Proclaim the Good News*

As soon as the Angel, conveyed the message of the resurrection of Jesus, the angel also told the women to proclaim this message of good news to every one

So the women were filled with joy, because Jesus was brought back to life, and they wanted to see Him

For this reason, they were ready to do anything. That's why immediately they began the work of proclaiming the good news as requested by the angels

*4) Risen Christ meets on the Way*

As the women set out their journey to proclaim the good news first to the disciples of Jesus, the Risen Lord meets them in the way

The women were thrilled to see the Risen Lord and they adored him, embraced His feet and did homage

When the women showed their willingness to, proclaim the Good NEWS, the Risen Christ gave them a divine experience

*5) Am I inserch of Jesus?*

As we participate in Holy Saturday's liturgy, am I really in search of the Risen Lord, or this Holy Saturday celebration a mechanical one?

The women were really and passionately inserch of Jesus and they found the Risen Lord, while they were in search of Him.

The same command of the angle also applicable to us *Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples*

Am I ready to go quickly to proclaim the good news. The Risen Lord is waiting for me and you on the way, to give His divine experience.

Am I ready to go and proclaim??

The Power of the Cross

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : Holy Week : Good Friday*

*GOSPEL -  John 18: 1-19: 42*

*FIRST READING - Is 52:13-53:12*

*Second Reading : Heb 4:14-16; 5:7-9*

*The Power of the Cross*

*1) The Change of the position of the Cross*

We can always reflect the Cross before Jesus' crucifixion and Cross after the crucifixion of Jesus

Before the crucifixion of Jesus Cross was a instrument of destruction, instrument of punishment, instrument of shame and insult, instrument of cruelty, instrument of terror, fear and anxiety, instrument of utter hopelessness and instrument of death

But after the Crucifixion of Jesus, Cross has become the symbol of hope, salvation, love, sacrifice, service, inspiration, and courage.

Today no one is frightened about the Cross and they love the cross. This is the power of the Cross

*2) There is no place with out the Cross*

Once upon a time cross was found only among the Romans as a symbol of punishment and curse

Today the cross is found everywhere. Where ever there is a Christian there is Cross

Today hardly we find a country, where there is no cross. So  the Cross of Jesus has crossed all the boundaries and hurdles and the Cross of Jesus is found everywhere as a symbol of Hope and love

So this is the power and miracle of Cross

*3) There is nothing is found attractive, yet it attracts millions*

As we see the cross, there is nothing is found which is very attractive.

The bloody body, full of wounds, blood oozing out from the body, the pierced side of Jesus, the sharp nails. So there is nothing which can attract a person in the Cross

But such a Cross is attracting millions and millions every day

Many people are inspired by the Cross, many peoples attention is cought by the cross and they try to reflect the Mystery of Cross and many people wonder at Cross.

So it means, today cross has become the instrument of attraction, rather than fear and anxiety.

*4) Cross and the Outstretched arms of Jesus*

The out stretched arms of Jesus is a powerful symbol, a symbol of welcome to His Kingdom

The outstretched arms of Jesus is a never ending reality and it is always open for every one

Jesus on the Cross, with his out strected arms, calls and welcomes everyone.

This is the power of Cross of Jesus

*5)  Cross can not be hidden under the bushel*

Cross is not a thing to hide. But it is a powerful divine  instrument to project in the public

Cross is always found in the public place, from where it can capture the attention of others

A Cross in the public place is a hope of salvation, hope of peace and a symbol of God's love

Such is the power of the Cross of Jesus

Removing of the Outer garment and wearing the Towel

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : Holy Week : Holy Thursday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 13:1-15*

*FIRST READING -Ex 12:1-8, 11-14*

*Second Reading - 1 Cor 11:23-26*

*Removing of the Outer garment and wearing the Towel*

*1) What are these outer garments in Jesus' Life?*

Outer garment is not merely a outer clothing, which Jesus removed before He started to wash the feet of His disciples.

We see after washing of the feet Jesus' wears the outer garments and tells His disciples two important words.

*Teacher* and *Master* are the two important words we see when Jesus put on the outer Garments.

So by removing the outer garments, He is also removing two of His titles or the attitudes while washing the feet of His disciples.

In other words, the titles *Master* and *Teacher* didn't hinder Jesus from washing the feet. He was able to come down from the title of *Master* and *Teacher* to wash the feet of His disciples

*2) Removing of the Outer garment symbolizes the process of self emptying*

The process of self emptying is at the center of Jesus' life and ministry.

So removing of the outer garment, also shows Jesus' readiness to empty himself to totally for the service of the man kind

As He removed the outer garments, Jesus emptied Himself to save the entire Human kind

*3) Removing of the Outer garments also symbolizes the attitude of Change*

This change is necessary in order to wash the feet of His disciples.

Jesus was ready Change Himself from *Master* and *Teacher* to that of ordinary servant, who can easily wash the feet of His disciples.

Jesus readiness to change from one position to another position of washing of the feet, is highlighted in removing of the outer garments, and also a powerful message to all of us while doing the service.

*4) My life and Outer garments*

As the disciples of Jesus all of us are called to wash the feet of our brothers and sisters

To do such a great ministry one has to ready to remove the outer garments. Unless we remove it we can't wash the feet of others

*5) Outer garments in my life*

The feeling of *superiority*
The feeling of *I belong to higher class*
The feeling of *it is bellow my dignity*
The feeling of *it is not meant for me*
The feeling of *High social position*
The feeling of *High standard of life*
The feeling of *What others will think*
The feeling of *Is it possible for me*
The feeling of *Pride, jealousy, anger, revenge, greed, selfishness, self centered attitude*

Unless we remove the outer garment of these things we can not serve our brothers and sisters

*6) Need of the Towel to tie around the waist*

Jesus took the towel and tired it to the waist, and began to wash the feet of the disciples.

Like Jesus I need to tie the towel around the waist to wash the feet. So what symbolizes the towel in my life?

The towel of humility
The towel of compassion
The towel of service
The towel of love
The towel of forgiveness
The towel of adjustment
The towel of simplicity
The towel of understanding
The towel of sacrifice
The towel of change

Unless we have these towels we can't serve

So am I ready to remove my outer garment and ready to tie the towel around my waist to serve the people of God?

God's gift, A well-trained tongue for me

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : Holy Week : Wednesday*

*GOSPEL -  Mt 26:14-25*

*FIRST READING - Is 50:4-9a*

*God's gift, A well-trained tongue for me*

*1) A well-trained Tongue*

The First reading of the day speaks about the well trained tongue.

A well trained tongue is very necessary thing, in order to live a good and holy life

At times, it is the tongue which creates a problem, because of which we suffer a lot

*2) The purpose of Well-trained Tongue*

The first reading of the day also highlights the purpose of the tongue, that also a well trained tongue.

Primarily a well trained tongue is necessary to speak a word to those who are weary and suffer from various things

Since our words have power and our words can change the situation and the life of the person, speaking to those who are depressed, those who are confused, those who do not understand the good things, a well trained tongue can help in such situations

*3) A well trained tongue is a great Asset*

There are lots of assets in our life.

But there is no more valuable asset than a well trained tongue, which is a primarily a great gift of God.

A well trained tongue can bring all the possible assets in life. Because, if the speech is right and powerful one can achieve anything in life

So a well trained tongue is a great valuable gift of God to us

*4) Well trained tongue - A continuous process*

A well trained tongue does not happen over night

Its a long process and one has to pay maximum attention to the same in training ones tongue.

So one who struggles continuously can, train his/her tongue.

*5) Training tongue is a herculean Task*

Training ones tongue is not a easy task. It is a very difficult and challenging task

But training the tongue is not a impossible thing.

One who tries in this area, can achieve the success

*6) How well trained my tongue is?*

As we look at our own life, it is necessary to reflect, how about my tongue?

Have I trained my tongue?

In what way I use my tongue?

A well trained tongue can not involve in gossip, negativity in remarks, humiliating words, insulting speeches, telling lies and various other similar things

If so what is the training of my tongue?

What are the ways do I use to train my tongue??

Judas Could not remain with Jesus When Satan entered His Life

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : Holy Week - Tuesday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 13:21-33, 36-38*

*FIRST READING - Is 49:1-6*

*Judas Could not remain with Jesus When Satan entered His Life*

*1) Judas with Jesus*

We see Judas with Jesus, wherever he Jesus went.

Even at the last supper, he was there with Jesus. In fact when Jesus was getting ready to have the last supper, he was present.

*2) Satan, Judas and the Departure*

As Judas was with Jesus, the Satan entered his life, when he received the morsel from Jesus

Since he was unclean in his mind and heart, and he had already planned to betray Jesus, Satan enters his life through the Morsel

Once the Satan enters, he could not remain with Jesus

The Gospel says, that immediately, he departed from Jesus' presence

So it is very clear that Judas could not stand before Jesus or he could remain with Jesus when Satan entered his life

*3) Judas' departure in the night*

Gospel says that when Judas departed from Jesus, it was night

Since last supper was held in the evening, it is natural that it would be dark out side

*But this has deeper meaning*

It was not only the physical darkness, but it was dark in the life of Judas

He willingly went from light, that is Jesus, and went into darkness of life, which ultimately destroyed his life

His thoughts became dark, his work became dark, his plans became dark, his situation became dark, the Money which he took became dark, and finally his life became dark

So there was no light in his life once he went from the presence of Jesus.

So Judas who disaapered in the darkness embraced darkness and became a darkness to the entire world

*4) Satan and Darkness go together*

In the life of Judas it is clear that Satan and darkness worked together

Finally these things leads to Judas to destruction.

Wherever Satan is there, there is darkness and wherever there darkness and Satan there is destruction

*5) My life and Satan*

Satan is very eagerly waiting to enter into every ones life

He is waiting for an opportunity to entre into our life

Sin is the another name of Satan. It is the another face of Satan. Though sin he tries to enter into our life. So we need to be very careful about this Satan.

*6) Sacrament of Reconciliation is s threat to Satan*

Satan who enters into our life, can be chased out though the confession.

Since through confession we are able to chase the Satan out from our life, through the Grace of God, Satan is afraid of this Sacrament.

So we need to be alert to check this Satan and to chase it, through the sacrament of Confession.

*7) Let's remain with Jesus*

Jesus says *I am the light of the World*

One who remains with this light will never see darkness and destruction.

Light from Jesus, darkness from Satan

The choice is ours.

Judas chose darkness, others chose light, in spite of their weaknesses.

What about my Choice?

*1)  Eye Sight and Blindness*

The first reading of the Day speaks about the call, and the mission of healing the blindness

As we know, how important it is to have eye sight in order to see the things and to live a holy life.

By seeing the things are realities, we come to know what is good and what is bad, which help us to choose the right things and to live a good life

*2) Beyond Eyesight*

The reading does not speak only of physical eyesight. It also speaks about the other areas which need either spiritual sight or deeper insight

Apart from the physical blindness there are also other areas where, we need to work to overcome from such blindness, in order to live a meaningful life

So there are also other realities, beyond the physical eyesight

*3) Various areas of Blindness in my life*

Pride in life, blinds our vision for humility

Revenge, blinds our vision of forgiveness

Jealousy blinds our vision of seeing good in others

Gossip blinds our vision of speaking good of others

Selfishness blinds our vision of generosity

Power blinds our vision of service

Anger blinds our vision of peace

So there are varieties of blindness, which creeps into our life

*4) Need for Working for the deeper sight, in above things*

When we analyse, we understand that there are various forms of blindness in our life

So there is a real and deeper need of paying attention in tackling these issues.

*5) Blindness and My life*

Lent is a time to find out the various forms of blindness in our life

Holy Week gives us a special call to find out the various blindness in our life and to tackle it

*FIRST READING - Is 50:4-7*

*SECOND READING - Phil 2:6-11*

*Take this and share it among yourselves*

*1) The Body and Blood of Jesus*

In the Last Supper, Jesus broke Himself and gave to the entire world

He broke the bread and said *Take this and share it among yourselves*

There are three things which involved here in this act

*Breaking, Giving and Sharing*

All these three things happened in the context of Breaking the Bread, which finally symbolizes Jesus breaking Himself and giving to others

*2) What Jesus has given to me?*

The words *take this* has a special relevance to our life

Jesus says take this and gives me forgiveness

Jesus says take this and gives me divine love

Jesus says take this and gives me his mercy

Jesus says take this and gives me His friendship

Jesus says take this and gives me, peace

Jesus says, take this and gives me happiness and joy

Jesus says, take this and gives me, his beautiful cross

Jesus says, take this and gives me various talents and skills

Jesus says, take this and gives me, uncountable blessings

Jesus says, take this and gives me, simplicity and humility

Like wise there are many more things which Jesus gives me everyday

*3) Breaking and Sharing*

The main purpose of giving to us, is to share with others

Sharing is the climax of Jesus' mission

He shared his life, his blood, his knowledge, his friendship, the healing power, his friendship, his love, and everything

He had to break Himself in order to share with others

*4) What do I break and Share?*

God has never given us bad things. God always gives Good things and God always,  has given us good things

If So what good things am I breaking and giving to others?

What things do I have to break and to share??

Is it the forgiveness, love, care, concern, service, smile, humility, sincerity, generosity etc

*5) Danger of breaking these things and sharing with others?*

Wrong and false information
Gossip, jealousy, character assassination, and other similar things

So what things do I to break and share with others?

At times do I share with others, bad things?

What things do I share with others  through my way of life and faithfulness??

*GOSPEL -  Jn 11:45-56*

*FIRST READING - Ez 37:21-28*

*Many went, to Jerusalem before Passover to purify themselves*

*1) Feast of Passover and the Need of Purification*

For Jewish people the feast of Passover was everything. Feast of passover was a great feast. So they prepared themselves to participate in the feast of Passover

As a preparation, they would go to Jerusalem, to purify themselves.

Accordingly Many people went up to Jerusalem, before the Passover to purify themselves

So it clearly shows the need of purifying oneself before the passover

*2) A great Week of Passover - A Holy Week is ahead of us*

Within few hours, we enter into the Holy Week, Which is most important to every Christian.

Holy Week is the climax of the mystery of our Salvation. We enter into the most important events of our faith, that is the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus

So such a week needs a lot of preparation to understand the mystery of Christ and to
Experience the same.

*3) Need of Purification for the Holy Week*

Since this week is Holy, because of the holy events, we are suppose to become holy to celebrate these events

So the need of purification, becomes very necessary to, make oneself Holy, through the rite of purification.

This calls us for making right efforts to make, ourselves holy though various spiritual exercises.

My persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 5th Week - Friday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 10:31-42*

*FIRST READING -Jer 20:10-13*

*My persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph*

*Who are my persecutors?*

*1)  The defeat of the Persecutors*

The first reading of the day speaks about the defeat of the persecutors

Prophet Jeremiah, speaks about the persecutors and their defeat, because the almighty God is with Him

The persecutors will be put to shame, they will be put into unforgettable confusion and finally they will be defeated fully

So the persecutors have no hope of Surviving for long

*2) Who are my persecutors?*

Instead tof looking out side of our life to find out the persecutors, it is better to find within ourselves the various persecutors who persecute us on various occasions

*Pride* takes the place of persecutor in my life

Anger, jealousy, gossip, revenge, attitude of division, greed for power and money, desire for wealth, craze for name and fame, uncontrolled sensual desire, etc

All these take the place of persecutors, in our lives, which make our lives difficult and miserable at times.

*3) Am I suffering because of these above persecutors?*
No one can escape from these above persecutors. All of us in one way or the other, suffer because of these persecutors.

Which are the persecutors, which affect me more, need to be reflected, inoder to handle that persecutor.

*4) Persecutors will never see victory, but only destruction*

According to the First reading, Jeremiah clearly says that persecutors will see a terrible defeat.

They will have to run away from our life, in order to survive in some others life

If So even in our life, these persecutors will never succeed, but with the power of God, they will destroy these persecutors and help us to live a good life

So which are the persecutors, who really persecute me and my activities??

Something that is lifted high can be seen immediately. Or something that is lifted high, captures the attention of everything

Something that is lifted high can't be hidden in any way. It is exposed to the public, that is why it is lifted high

When something is lifted high, it also meant that something is very important and that needs to be paid special attention.

*2) Jesus is lifted High*

The Gospel of the day has this phrase, the lifting of the Son of Man

When Jesus is lifted on the Cross, the following things happened

Every one came to know that Jesus is the Son of God

Many realised that Jesus is an innocent man, who was falsely condemned

The value of forgiveness and the miracle of forgiveness

All people could see Jesus on the Cross

The lifted Jesus could not be hid from others

The lifted Jesus that day was seen only at Mount Calvary, but today lifted Jesus can be seen from any corner of the World

Today there is no place where the lifted Jesus has not reached. In every corner of the World lifted Jesus reigns

Lifted Jesus is an inspiration to all of us

A good thing or a good person lifted can't be remain salient. This will work miracle

Wherever Jesus is present, there the Light is present.

It is Jesus who says, that He is the Light of the World

Light is something which is very attractive, creative, appealing, fulfilling, happiness and joy.

All wish to remain in Light and not in darkness

*2) Various Forms of Jesus' Light*

Jesus becomes light in our day today life in the Following way or thses are the various forms of Jesus' light

*A) Word of God*  Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Ps  119:105. So through His Words Jesus becomes light in our day to day life.

So Sacred Scripture is the Light of my life

*B) Love* The unconditional Love, which is shown on the Cross is the another form of Jesus' Light.

Love always brings light and it can't bring darkness in ones life

*C) Forgiveness*

Jesus' Forgiveness is the another powerful form of Jesus' Light. This is because forgiveness and reconciliation always bring light and not darkness

What Do you Say?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 5th Week - Sunday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 8:1-11*

*FIRST READING - Is 43:16-21*

*SECOND READING -Phil 3:8-14*

*What Do you Say?*

*1) A question to Jesus*

What do you say is the Question, which was thrown at Jesus by Scribes and Pharisees, in the context of accusing a woman caught in adultery.

This question by the Pharisees and scribes had a special purpose that is to trap Jesus and to find fault with Jesus

If so, what Jesus said? Or what was the answer of Jesus to this question?

*2) Various answers of Jesus to this Question*

*A) All of them are sinners*

This is the powerful message which was given by Jesus to those who accused the woman

*Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.* To this no one was left. All went away from there. By this Jesus showed that all of them were equally at fault

*B) Only God can judge and not human beings*

The action of Jesus also answered the question by saying that only God has the authority to judge and not the human beings

This is the another answer given by Jesus to the scribes and Pharisees

*C) I will give her new Life*

This is the Third answer, which was given by Jesus to the above question

God always tries to give new life, wherever it is possible

*D) I will not condemn her*

This is another answer given by Jesus to the Scribes and Pharisees.

God is not the one who condemns but Our God is the one who forgives and saves our life

*E) Not to commit the old sins again*

Finally this is also implied in the answer to the question.

*Go, and from now on do not sin any more.* is also an answer to the Question

*3) What Pharisees and Scribes said?*

They said that they are righteous people and they can't commit sin

For adultery woman is responsible and she should be punished with death, but there is no mention of man

Scribes and Pharisees said this is a wonderful opportunity to trap Jesus and to humiliate him

Finally they said, they had no way to challenge Jesus. So they left one by one.

*4) What do I say?*

I can take either Jesus' side or Scribes and Pharisees side

Pharisees side always will point out fault with some one else and not within oneself

When we fallow Jesus, we will never judge a person but will be able to understand him/her and accept the person as he/she is

Which personality is dominating in me?

The personality of Jesus or the personality of Scribes and Pharisees??

Is Nicodemus active in My life?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 4th Week - Saturday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 7:40-53*

*FIRST READING - Jer 11:18-20*

*Is Nicodemus active in My life?*

*1) Nicodemus one of the great followers of Jesus*

We see a gradual growth in the life of Nicodemus

First of all he came in the night to meet Jesus, because of the fear of Jews. That was the first encounter of Nicodemus with Jesus

Second instance of Nicodemus we see in today's Gospel where he openly speaks about Jesus and for Jesus

The third instance we see at the foot of the Cross and burial. Where Nicodemus also joins in lowering the Body of Jesus from the Cross and also the events that follow after this

So we see that there is a powerful growth in the life of Nicodemus.

*2) God has given Nicodemus to all of us*

Here we take Nicodemus as a inner person hidden in our personality.

God has placed a Nicodemus within our self. How do we activate this Nicodemus who is hidden in our life?

With out this Nicodemus we can't live a authentic life. So it is our responsibility to make this Nicodemus very active in our life.

*3) What Nicodemus stands in my life?

First of all Nicodemus stands for desire for learning from the Master - Jesus the Master

Secondly Nicodemus Stands to sitting beside the Master and listening carefully to understand the greater things or Heavenly things in life

Thirdly, Nicodemus stands for speaking truth in ones life

Fourthly, Nicodemus stands for defending the innocent against the false accusations

Fifthly, Nicodemus stands for risking ones life for defending the innocent

Sixthly, Nicodemus stands for How to bear witness in the misdt of crisis and challenges

Seventhly, Nicodemus stands for right is right and wrong is wrong. No one can judge a person based on the place of birth and other external things

*4) How active the Nicodemus in my Life?*

After analysing the personality of Nicodemus and the values attached to His personality, it is necessary to reflect that how powerful this Nicodemus in my life?

Do I give opportunities to this Nicodemus to  become strong in my life?

Do I put lots of restrictions on Nicodemus so that he does not become powerful in my life?

During lent how far this Nicodemus is powerful in my life?

*5) What can I do, to make Nicodemus strong in my life?*

There is no doubt that there is a hidden Nicodemus in my life

To make him strong we need to work everyday.

We need to practice some of the qualities of Nicodemus, to allow him to grow in our life

By fostering the Kingdom values and also the values followed by Nicodemus, we can make the hidden Nicodemus, powerful in our life

*If so, are u ready to work for the growth of Nicodemus in my life?*

*Think about it*

*God bless you and your family. Praying for you and your dear ones*
