One needs Special/Divine Sight to Follow Jesus

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Ordinary Season : Eight Week :  Thursday*

*Gospel : Mk 10:46-52*

*First Reading : Sir 42:15-25*

*One needs Special/Divine Sight to Follow Jesus*

*1) Bartimaeus Followed Jesus after receiving the Sight*

In the Gospel of the day, we see Jesus healing a blind man called Bartimaeus.

He was blind and was not able to see anything. So he pleaded Jesus to heal from his blindness. Jesus healed him and gave the sight

After receiving the sight Bartimaeus followed Jesus on the way

*2) One needs a sight to follow Jesus*

From the Gospel incident it is very clear that, one needs a special sight to follow Jesus

It was physical sight for Bartimaeus which helped him to follow Jesus

More than physical sight he had divine sight or spiritual sight which helped him to gain physical sight and to follow Jesus

*3) Physical Sight alone not sufficient to follow Jesus*

All of us have physical sight which helps us to see the beautiful creation of God and also to see many other things

But to recognize God in the creation and Jesus in my brothers and Sisters we need special spiritual sight

Unless we have this deeper sight we may not be able to see and recognize Jesus in our neighbors

*4) The various sight which help us to recognize Jesus in others*

The sight of Mercy
The sight of humility
The sight of simplicity
The sight of love
The sight of service
The sight of generosity
The sight of sacrifice
The sight of Truth
The sight of helping others
The sight of sharing
The sight of hope

All these sights will help us to recognize Jesus and to follow him in our life

*5) How about my sight?*

Apart from my physical sight how about the other sight in my life

How powerful is my spiritual sight?

How powerful is my divine sight?

How powerful is my inner sight?

Am I able to recognize Jesus in my day today life and follow him very closely?

Mary Comes to Visit us everyday

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Ordinary Season : Eight Week :  Wednesday*

*The Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Vergin Mary*

*Gospel : Lk 1:39–56*

*First Reading : Zep 3:14–18a [or Rom 12:9–16]*

*Mary Comes to Visit us everyday*

*1) Marys Visit to Elizabeth*

The Gospel of the Day shows us the beautiful and urgent visit of Mary to Elizabeth

Elizabeth was pregnant, and Mary understood the need of her service to Elizabeth. So immediately she went to Elizabeth's house and she spent time in serving Elizabeth

*2) Mary's Visit filled new joy and Happiness in Elizabeth's House*

Mary's visit to Elizabeth was not and ordinary visit

It was a divine visit, which practically changed the situation of the House of Elizabeth

First of all Zachariah was not able to speak. So there was a kind of sadness and total silence in Elizabeth's House

There was no one to talk, no one to share the feeling. So a kind of emptiness was present in Elizabeth's house

But the entry of Mary, changes the whole situation. Silence was changed into joy and there was brightness in the house of Elizabeth

So Mary's visit always brings joy and happiness in our houses and in our life

*3) Mary brings Jesus along with Her*

It is not Mary alone comes. Mary always comes with Jesus. Since Jesus was in her womb, Mary brought Jesus along with her

So Mary is the person who brings Jesus into our houses and also in our lives

*4) Mary's Visit is an occasion to experience the Power of the Holy Spirit*

We see in the visit of Mary to Elizabeth, the Role of the Holy Spirit

*When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,  cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.*

*5) Mary's Visit Helps us to sing the praises of the Lord*

As soon as Mary visited Elizabeth, she was filled with Holy Spirit and she began to sing the praises of the Lord, and the greatness of Mary

So Mary's visit in our life, helps us the see the great things of God in our life and to sing the praises of the Lord

*6) Mary's Visit to my Life*

Mary is very active in visiting me and the followers of Jesus

Her thousands of apparitions are the witness to this fact

Apart from this, she is very much involved in the lives of the faithful, in the life of the Church and in the mission of the Lord

When we pray rosary and seek her intercession, it is very clear that Mary visits us many times in our life

When she visits us, she brings Jesus to us, she brings the Holy Spirit to us, she brings the joy and happiness to us and she brings a great change in our lives

Blessed are we who have such a wonderful mother in our Life

*7) What is My response to my Mother's Visit*

When our mother visits us, what is my response?

Am I able to respond like Elizabeth, who was able to have divine  experience and was able to praise God?

Am I able to see the hand of God in the visit of Mary in my life?

What is my response to my mother's visit in my life and in my House?

Various important things involved in Following Jesus

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Ordinary Season : Eight Week :  Tuesday*

*Gospel : Mk 10:28-31*

*First Reading : Sir 35:1-12*

*Various important things involved in Following Jesus*

*1) Sacrifice*

The Gospel of the day Shows various things which are involved in following Jesus

Sacrifice is one of the important things which has to be taken seriously in order to follow Jesus

Jesus says one has to sacrifice ones own Father, Mother, brothers, Sisters and the Property

The above things can be taken in a literal sense. But at the same time it can also be seen in another angle

The above mentioned things are most dear to us and our attachment to these things is very high. Jesus says, in life we need to detach ourselves from those things to  which we are attached  most

*2) Persecution*

This is the another important thing which is involved in following Jesus

We the followers Jesus stand for justice, truth, and fight against injustice, take the side of the poor and spreading the good news, they are met with persecutions

History has shown this fact and proved this fact

In the present day situation, the followers of Jesus are facing the very cruel way of persecutions, because they follow the values of Jesus

So persecutions are the part and parcel of the followers of Jesus

*3) 100 fold reward*

In the Gospel Jesus also tells us that all those who sacrifice something for the sake of Jesus get it back in hundred fold

This hundred fold may not be in same kind or in similar way, but always comes with a better format and higher things

It may be a kind of happiness, joy, fulfillment etc for working for the Lord

*4) Eternal Life*

This is the highest reward which Jesus is promising for the followers of Jesus

Eternal life is the purpose of every Human life. By following Jesus and living the life of values based on the Gospel will help us to gain eternal life

*5) Am I ready to follow Jesus?*

When we see the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus, it is clear that both good things and the Challenges are found in following Jesus

At times the challenges are more than the good things.

So in thus context what is my response?

Am I ready to follow Jesus?

When I follow Jesus what type of reward I expect from Jesus? Is it according the standards of this world or according to the standards of the Gospel?

Role of Mary, As the Mother of the Church

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Ordinary Season : 10th Week :  Monday*

*Mary, Mother of the Church - Feast*

*Gospel : Jn 19:25-34*

*First Reading : Gen 3:9-15, 20*

*Role of Mary, As the Mother of the Church*

*1) Jesus hands over His Mother and the Mother of the Church*

In today's Gospel we see a beautiful scene where Jesus hands over His Mother to the care of His beloved disciple, John

And the Gospel says *from that hour the disciple took her into his home.*

In other Words she became the Mother of the Church

*2) Mary takes care of the Church, as she took care of Jesus*

As Mary took care of Jesus, so now she takes care of the Church, which is the bride of Jesus

One of the missions of Mary today is to take care of the Church and to protect it from all harm. So that the mission of her Son, Jesus, could be continued in building the Kingdom of God here on Earth

*3) The apparitions of Mary*

The thousands of Apparitions of Mary, in the History of the Church, clearly shows the involvement of Mary in the Life of the Church

As a faithful and loving Mother, she is always found with the pilgrim Church, in assisting her, towards the right goal

In every apparition, she warns, guides and shows the right path, which the faithful and her children should take in achieving the right purpose of Life

*4) The Rosary*

The Rosary is one of the powerful instruments of our Blessed Mother

Mary, has given this instrument as a weapon to fight against the devil and the evil forces

Since she loves her children so much, she has given us this instrument so that we can fight against all that goes against mission of the Church

*5) The Intercession of Mother Mary*

The intercession of our blessed Mother is very powerful

Since she is our Mother, and the Mother of the Church, we as children feel very comfortable to ask her help at any moment and especially at the moment of crisis

We intercede through the Rosary, and through the Noven and also through our personal prayer.

Our Mother is always ready to help us at any moment

*6) The Protection of Mary*

The protection of Mary is very powerful

Those who are under her care, will never be lost, because she protects always her children

The protection of our Mother has helped the Church and the people of God to continue the mission of the Lord, even today in various ways

How about my responsibility as a faithful child of Mother Mary, in my day today life?

The Pentecost, The Coming of the Holy Spirit and the Red Colour

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Pentecost Sunday*

*Solemnity of Pentecost Sunday : The Coming of the Holy Spirit*

*Gospel : Jn 20:19-23*

*First Reading : Acts 2:1-11*

*SECOND READING : Rom 12:3b-7, 12-13*

*The Pentecost, The Coming of the Holy Spirit and the Red Colour*

*1) The Liturgical Colour is Red*

On the Pentecost Sunday, we see the altar and the Holy places either covered with Red color or decorated with Red Colour

The Mass vestaments also of Red Colour and some other items which we use for the celebration of the Eucharist also covered with red colour

Besides this, whenever we offer the Mass of the Holy Spirit, the Liturgical colour is always red and accordingly we follow the other things while celebrating the Mass

So there must be some similarities between the Holy Spirit and the Red Color

*2) The Significance of Red Colour*

In our day today life, we have these following things which are very important in life, which have got red Colour

*A) Blood*: Blood symbolizes the life. Blood means life. There is no life is possible with out the blood

*B) Fire* The Colour of the Fire is red. Once again we can't think of life without fire. Fire is very essential for Life

*C) Visibility* Red colour is visible from a distance. Its visibility is very high.

*D) Red is One among Basic or Primary Colours*

There are 4 basic colours. Red, Green, Yellow and Blue.

Primary or Basic colours means they are pure. They are original colour, not mixed with anything else

*E) Catches our Attention* Red colour has the capacity to draw our attention towards it. It has the capacity to show itself clearly and draw attention

*F) Red can be seen in Day or Night*

Red is visible in any situation. Either Bright or dark, red can shine itself in any situation

*G) Makes us to think* The moment we see, we stop a moment and try to think about the situation.

*H) Signals are found in Red Colour* Most of the traffic signals have red colour in it. So red colour protects us, guide us and show us the Direction

*I) Indicator of Dangerous things*

Red colour is indicates the dangerous situation. That's all the ambulances have red colour signal in their vehicles

*J) Break Light is always with Red colour*

The break light of All the vehicles are found in red colour. Break can control the vehicle.

The red break colour is the symbol of protection and caution

This is the Significance of the Red Colour

*3) Holy Spirit and the Red Colour*

The 10 things, which are mentioned about the red colour, are closely associated with the Holy Spirit

So Holy Spirit means, Life itself like blood, without which we can't live

Holy Spirit is fire, which can destroy all the bad things, and inspire many more to do good things

As red colour can be seen from anywhere, likewise Holy Spirit can be experienced from, any where, because he is present

Like wise red colour draws our attention, Holy Spirit draws our attention from anywhere else

As red colour makes us to think reflect, Holy Spirit always helps us the think and reflect about eternal things

Red colour shows us right direction and indicates the possible dangerous things, like wise Holy Spirit shows us the right direction and shows the possible dangerous things and protect us from them

Holy Spirit is just Like a break light, which can control our life, to avoid any risks and fatal things

*4) The Power of the Holy Spirit*

Red colour also indicates the Power of the Holy Spirit

The power of the Holy Spirit made the disciples to be courageous and to proclaim the Good News

The power of the Holy Spirit, made the disciples to speak different languages which could be understood by everyone

Today the power of the Holy Spirit governs the Entire World

What is the Significance of the Holy Spirit in my life?

Need to focus on Our own God given Mission

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Seventh  Week :  Saturday after Ascension*

*Gospel : Jn 21:20-25*

*First Reading : Acts 28:16-20, 30-31*

*Need to focus on Our own God given Mission*

*1) Peter Receives his own pastoral commission and obituary notice from Jesus*

When Jesus asked Peter, *Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?* Peter said, *Lord you know that I love you

After this incident Jesus gives him the pastoral responsibility. Jesus says to Peter *Feed my lambs*

Afterwords Jesus also gives him the information about His own fate in the Future. In other words, the martyrdom, that he will have to face for the sake of Jesus and to glorify the Lord

So Peter had already received the obituary notice of His life

*2) What about Him?*

After knowing His own fate, now he wanted to know the future of John, the beloved disciple of Jesus

Since, John had a special place in the circle of Apostle, Peter wanted to know the fate of John in the future

So he asked Jesus *Lord, what about him?”*

*3) No answer was given*

Jesus didn't answer the question of Peter. He simply said *What concern is it of yours?*

In other words Jesus is simply saying, why are you worried about John. You have enough and more responsibility which I have given you. So please concentrate on your work, instead of wasting your time thinking about others fate

So the message is very clear. We need to worry about what is between me and Jesus and need not worry about what is between Jesus and others.

*4) Unnecessary interference disturbs everyone's work*

This is the another important aspect of our life.

First of all we shloud try to know what is our responsibility, in carrying out the mission of the Lord.

Secondly we need to concentrate on what we are supposed to so in carrying out the mission entrusted to us by the Lord

So interfering in others mission, will first of all disturb my focus and mission, which will result in losing my focus in mission. Secondly, it also will disturb the other in doing their mission

*5) Do I interfere in others business?*

Much of the troubles and problems we face because, unnecessarily we involve in others business

Today Lord tells us to focus on our own mission and doing good in everything

Not to involve in others business, unless our opinion or help is asked

At times we are involved in others mission more than doing our own mission

What about my approach?

Reaction of Peter at third time when Jesus asked Do You Love Me?

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Seventh Week : Friday*

*Gospel : Jn 21:15-19*

*First Reading : Acts 25:13b-21*

*Reaction of Peter at third time when Jesus asked Do You Love Me?*

*1) Jesus' Special Question to Peter*

To Peter Jesus asked this particular question  *“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”*

When Jesus asked for the first time he answered in a normal way. He said *“Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”*

When Jesus asked for the Second time, still he answered in a normal way. He said  *“Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”*

*2) Peters Reaction at the Third time?*

The Gospel clearly Shows that at the third time when Jesus asked, Peter's reaction was quite different

First of all,  He was distressed when he heard that question from Jesus at the third time

He was little upset, he was little sad to hear that questions from Jesus at the third time

So he said: * “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”*

*3) Peter's reactions involve the Followers things*

He carefully understood what Jesus was asking Him.

Secondly, Peter had no doubt whatsoever, with regard to His love to Jesus. He firmly believed that he had loved Jesus

Thirdly, to hear such intimate question from Jesus for the third time was very painful to Peter, because he loved Jesus deeply

Fourthly, this question made Him to think about His own love towards Jesus and His responsibility towards Jesus

*4) What about my reaction?*
The similar questions which was asked to Peter, Jesus also asks us in many situations of our life

What is our reaction? Is it like first two times of Peter or the Third time of Peter

The first two times does not make any effect in ones life

The turning point or the very powerful moment was when Jesus asked for the third and and the reaction of Peter

Third time reaction, in fact had lots of effects on the life of Peter

*5) Jesus not only three times but asks many times with Us*

Jesus who asked questions for three times  to Peter, asks the many other similar questions to all of us

What is my reaction?

Is it like first two times of Peter or the third time of Peter?

At times I respond to Jesus like the first two times of Peter, which does not see any difference in life

Only the reactions like third time will make some difference in ones life

If my reaction is like that of first two times of Peter, I need to change my attitude in life

I am a Gift to Jesus

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Seventh  Week :  Thursday*

*Gospel : Jn 17:20-26*

*First Reading : Acts 22:30; 23:6-11*

*I am a Gift to Jesus*

*1) Father, they are your gift to me.*

In today's Gospel Jesus reveals a great truth about His disciples

Jesus says that His disciples are the greatest gift from the Father to Him

Jesus is very happy to have this precious gift from the Father and He is ready to sacrifice His life to protect this beautiful treasure

*2) Gift is a very precious thing*

In our day today life, we have the experience of receiving and giving gifts to our loved ones

It is our experience that whatever may be the gift, we always consider that gift is always precious

Since we consider gift as a precious thing, we protect it and it love it along with the one who gave the gift to us

*3) I am a gift in the Hands of God*

It the Father who gives the gift to the Son and the precious gift is *Me*

So in the Hands of the Father and the Son, I remain as a precious gift

What a privilege we enjoy to become a precious gift in the Hands of God

The moment we realise this great fact, automatically our life changes and we become very important in the sight of God

*4) Gift and Love*

There is a close connection between the Gift and Love

Finally it is the power of Love, which makes a person to gift something to another.

So when I love a person in a sincere way, I give some gifts out if Love and makes the gift more precious

*5) The value of gift goes beyond money value*

In terms of money the gift may be very very low price

But that is not the value of the gift, because along with the money value, there are so many other valuable and precious things are involved in the gift.

For example, the love, the depth of the relationship, the sweet memories, the attraction, the worth of the person, the emotions, the care and concern for other etc.

*6) Gifts strengthens the Relationship*

Any gift which is given as a sign of Love, strengthen the bond and relationship

So gifts are instrumental in strengthening the relationship and unity

*7) What is my Gift to Jesus?*

This is the very important thought

I am given to Jesus as a precious gift by the Father

But what is my gift to Jesus? Is it my life? Sincerity? Love? Sacrifice? Forgiveness? Humility? Generosity,?

*8) As a gift what is my responsibility?*

There is no doubt that I am a  precious gift in the Hands of Jesus

If So, what is my responsibility?

As a gift, I must always remain faithful to the Master

As a gift, I must be at the service of the Master

Gift can be used by the Master, as he wants. If So How do I allow myself to Jesus to produce much fruit

Gift must be used, it can't be kept inside.

So what about my life??

*Think about it*

Being in the World, A Christian is called upon to Rise above the World

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Seventh  Week :  Wednesday after Pentecost*

*Gospel : Jn 17:11b-19*

*First Reading : Acts 20:28-38*

*Being in the World, A Christian is called upon to Rise above the World*

*1) We are in the World, but not of the World*

This is what Jesus tells us.

We have to live our life in the world, we have to carry out the mission of the Christ in the World.

In order to do this we need to be in the World.

But we are not of the World.

When some one becomes of the World, he/she will live according to the standards of this World

When a persons life is governed by the standards of this World, he/she becomes of the World

*2) A Challenging Mission*

Being in the world, to rise above the World is not very easy

It is one of the most challenging missions of the followers of Jesus

Since we are influenced and affected by the standards of this World, to rise above the standards of this world, needs a special efforts, charism and the commitment. Only then one is able to rise above the World, even one is in the World

*3) Prayer is the Tool, to rise above the World*

From today's Gospel it is very clear that only prayer can help the followers of Jesus to rise above the World.

That is why we see in today's Gospel the beautiful prayer of Jesus for His Disciples

One of the primary purposes of this prayer is to strengthen His disciples, in their struggle to rise above the World

All those who build the Foundation of their life in prayer are able to rise above the World

*4) Jesus prayed, We need to pray for one another*

In the process of rising above the Worldly standards, Jesus gives us a beautiful tool of prayer

We see Jesus is praying for His disciples. Like wise we need to pray for one another in the process of rising above the World

So it is not enough to say that Jesus is praying for us, saints are interceding for us, but we need to pray for ourselves and pray for one another in the process of rising above the World

*5) Various Signs of Rising above the World*

If I am able to *forgive,* I don't belong to the standards of this world

If I am able to *love*, I don't belong to the standards of this world

If I am able to *serve the needy, speak good about others, speak the truth, and work for peace and justice,* I don't belong to the standards of this world

If I am able to *share whatever I have with others*, I don't belong to the standards of this world

If I am able to *humble myself at any moment* I don't belong to the standards of this world

If I am able to *face any kinds of challenges in building the kingdom of God in this World*, I don't belong to the standards of this world

*6) Am I in the World, of the World or above the World?*

This is the important question to reflect every day in our life

Being in the World we are easily drown by the attractions of this World and we become the victims of the standards of this World

In this context what is my role in rising above the World

Our roots are in the World, but our fruits must be above the World, just like a lotus flower which is able to rise from the dirty things, and show itself clean and pure

The Lotus flower is not affected by the dirty things below.

We are called upon to live our life like the above model. Am I ready?

Jesus revealed the name of the Father to His disciples. What about me?

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Seventh  Week :  Tuesday after Ascension*

*Gospel : Jn 17:1-11a*

*First Reading : Acts 20:17-27*

*Jesus revealed the name of the Father to His disciples. What about me?*

*1) The revelation of the Father's Name*

In today's Gospel Jesus solemnly proclaims that He revealed the Name of the Father to His disciples

Revealing the Name of the Father means, giving the right understanding of the Heavenly Father

In other words, it is introducing the Heavenly Father to His disciples

*2) The Primary aim of Jesus' Mission*

The primary purpose of Jesus' mission was to reveal the Heavenly Father to His disciples and to the Entire World

For this particular purpose, Jesus came into this world and spoke our language, so that we may understand that who the Heavenly Father is, and What is His Nature

All the missionary activities of Jesus reveal one Truth, that is who the Heavenly Father is and what is His Nature

*3) The Various Names of the Heavenly Father revealed by Jesus*

*Mercy* In the parable of the Prodigal Son, Jesus shows that the Name of God is Mercy.

There are also other instances where Jesus shows that the name of Heavenly Father is Mercy

*Love* Jesus also shows in the Commandments, that the Name of the Heavenly Father is Love

God so loved that World that He gave His only son to the world John 3:16

*Forgiveness* Another name of the Heavenly Father. By Forgiving the adulterous woman and forgiving His enemies from the Cross, Jesus revealed that, Forgiveness is the Name of the Heavenly Father

*Sacrifice* By dying on the Cross, and laying down  His life  for the World, Jesus showed that Sacrifice is the name of the Heavenly Father

*Humility* By humbling Himself in everything, Jesus showed that, Humility is another Name of the Heavenly Father

*Generosity* Jesus always gave more than what is needed. This is proved in the wedding at cana, the abundance of Wine

So generosity is the another name of the Heavenly Father

*Sharing* : Another name of the Heavenly Father

*Truth* Jesus revealed that the Truth is the another name of the Heavenly Father

*Compassion*  Jesus Shows very powerfully that, compassion is the Powerful name of the Heavenly Father

*4) What about my Life?*

What are the various names through which I get deeper knowledge about the Heavenly Father?

Which are the various names, through which I reveal, the nature of the Heavenly Father to my people?

What can I do more, to reveal the genuine name of the Heavenly Father, to others??

No one can avoid troubles in the World

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Seventh  Week :  Monday after Pentecost*

*Gospel : Jn 16:29-33*

*First Reading : Acts 19:1-8*

*No one can avoid troubles in the World*

*1) In the world you will have trouble*

These are the words of Jesus from today's Gospel

The moment we think about troubles and challenges we feel anxious and we become nervous.

The First reaction towards the trouble is to avoid it. In fact no one wants to get into troubles and lose peace of mind

But the fact is, as a Christian, no one can have trouble free life

A trouble free life is not a Christian life. Because a Christian will face some or the other kinds of troubles

Troubles are the part and parcel of Christian Spirituality

*2) Jesus had troubles in the World*

For us Christians, Jesus is the perfect model, we look for

In fact Jesus had number of troubles in the world when he began His ministry

Jesus was challenging every situation when went against the spirit the Kingdom of God. As a result he had to face troubles from His own people and community

So troubles are very common when one wants to do something good

*3) Troubles for the sake of the Kingdom of God*

When Jesus refers to the trouble we need to see these troubles from the angle of the Kingdom of God

All those troubles which are arising from the context of establishing the Kingdom of God, are worth, which leads us to become strong in our life

All those troubles which arise from the evil habits, or from our selfish motives lead our life, towards worse situation, which make our meaningless

So we need to see for what purpose we are facing the trouble in our life

*4) The present church is at trouble*

Wherever we see the church today, it is under trouble

Trouble for preaching the Gospel, fighting for justice and for doing good

Trouble is for proclaiming that one is the follower of Christ and practicing the Gospel values

At large today church faces many troubles all over the world for witnessing Christ

*5) The tree that bears fruit will always be stoned*

This is a Turkish Proverb

The situation of the Church and the Followers of Jesus is similar to the above proverb

We have face much troubles in the world because we serve the Lord and try to implement the values of Jesus into this world

Since the values if Jesus go against the values of this world, the troubles are faced by the followers of Jesus

*6) Am I frightened about the troubles?*

There is no need to fear for the troubles, because Jesus is always with us

Every follower of Jesus must prepare himself/herself to face the troubles and not to avoid the troubles

What about troubles in my life?

*Think about it*

The Ascension of Jesus to Heaven shows the real destiny of our Life

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Seventh  Week :  Sunday*

*Gospel : Mt 28:16-20*

*First Reading : Acts 1:12-14*

*Second Reading : Eph 1:17-23*

*The Fesst of the Ascension of the Lord*

*The Ascension of Jesus to Heaven shows the real destiny of our Life*

*1) Jesus came from Heaven*

The Gospel stories clearly Show us that Jesus came from Heaven

Jesus is the second person of the Trinity. He sacrificed
His position and took the human form and dwelt among us

Jesus' coming from heaven Shows His real place of dwelling.

*2) Ascension means Going back to Heaven*

As we celebrate the feast of Ascension, it calls us to reflect about the importance of this event

Ascension means, Jesus going back to heaven. The simple reason is that, Heaven is the permanent place of Jesus

It is from heaven that Jesus came and now it is to the heaven Jesus is going back

*3) Jesus goes to heaven after completing His mission*

Jesus completed the mission of saving the mankind from the Sin

He saved the mankind by dying on the Cross, by scarifying His life

Death of Jesus was the main event in the life of Jesus. But resurrection of Jesus was the culmination of the completion of his ministry

So after completing His ministry Jesus went up to heaven

*4) Our Real Home is heaven*

St Paul tells us that we are the citizens of Heaven (Philippines 3:20)

We have come from heaven. So finally we need to go to heaven

Before we depart to heaven we need to complete our mission

So it is very important to realise this fact as we celebrate the feast of the ascension of Heaven

*5) What is our Mission*

As we know that we need to complete our mission, before we depart to our permanent home, what is our mission?

Our Mission consists in what Jesus did during his public ministry

Jesus spread the message of love, healed the sick, comforted the broken ones, helped those who were suffering etc

So this is also our mission as the followers of Christ

So am I ready to do this mission?

Whatever we ask in His name, we will be given the favour because we love and believe in Jesus

No one will take away our Joy, which arises from the eternal things

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Sixth Week :   Friday*

*Gospel : Jn 16:20-23*

*First Reading : Acts 18:9-18*

*No one will take away our Joy, which arises from the eternal things*

*1) Jesus on Joy in our Life*

In today's Gospel Jesus speaks about the depth of joy, which His followers can enjoy in their lives

Jesus says *Your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you*

So one needs to work to create such joy in life and to enjoy this joy in ones life

*2) The Encounter to the Risen Christ is the cause of Joy*

Jesus makes it very clear that, He will suffer and die on the Cross

This particular event will bring, a kind of anxiety, fear, confusion, and helpless situation

But this is not the end. Jesus will be raised on the third day and He will appear to his disciples

So the meeting of Jesus and the encounter of the Risen Lord, will result in a joy, which no one will take away from the hearts of the disciples

*3) The Joy of the Risen Christ in our Life*

From today's Gospel it is very clear that the Joy which arrises from the encounter of the Risen Lord will remain in our life forever. No one will be able to take away this joy from our life

So the mission of the followers is to experience the encounter of the Risen Lord, to experience this everlasting joy in our life

*4) Various ways to encounter the Risen Lord and to experience the Eternal Joy*

*Peace* Peace is the first gift of the Risen Lord. One who experiences peace in ones life and one who works for peace will be able to experience this eternal joy, which no one will be able to take away from our life

*Forgiveness* This is the Another powerful gift of the Risen Lord. The joy which arrises from Forgiveness, can never be stollen by any one else in our life, but it remains for ever in our life

*Service* We see the Rise  Lord at the service of the disciples to give his risen experience and to strengthen them in their faith. A joy which arises from the Service will remain forever and no one can take away this joy from our life

*Holy Spirit* Another powerful gift of the Risen Lord. One who receives this Holy Spirit, and listens to His promptings, will be able enjoy the Heavenly Joy, which no one can take away from our life

*Removing of Doubt* We see the Risen Lord, at the Service of Thomas, who doubted His Resurrection. By Showing his pierced side, Jesus removed the Doubt of Thomas. The Joy which arose from the removing of the Doubt, in the Life of Thomas remained forever and no one could steal this joy from the life of Thomas. The Joy which we enjoy in our life, because of the removing of the doubt, remains with us forever. Otherwise doubt remains in our life, and every moment it takes away our joy, in our  life

*5) Am I able to enjoy the Joy which arrises from eternal things?*

If I am able to *forgive* I can enjoy this joy in my life

If I am able to *trust* people I can enjoy this joy in my life

If I am able to *love* people I can enjoy this joy in my life

If I am able to *sacrifice* something for the good of the other I can enjoy the eternal joy in my life

If I am able to *serve* others, I can enjoy this joy in my life

If I am able to *speak good about others* I can enjoy this eternal joy in my life

If so, what are the hurdles in my life, which take away the eternal joy in my life??

Your Pain will turn into Joy

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Sixth Week :   Thursday*

*Gospel : Jn 16:16-20*

*First Reading : Acts 18:1-8*

*Your Pain will turn into Joy*

*1) The Pain of the Disciples*

When Jesus told about His departure from them, the disciples were very sad.

Since they were with Jesus, and they knew that without Jesus they can do nothing or they are nothing, they were not ready to get separated from Jesus

So in this context Jesus tells them that their pain will turn into joy

*2) Pain turned into Joy, in the life of the Apostles*

When Jesus was betrayed by Judas, He was caught by the soldiers and gradually he was condemned to death by Pilot

Then the Passion of Christ begins and finally he was crucified and was killed

During this time the pain of the Apostles were unimaginable. They didn't know what to do

But finally their pain was turned into joy, when Jesus was raised to life, from death, by the Father

*3) Pain is not permanent but very short*

It is clear from the Words of Jesus and from the life of the disciples, that pain is very short and joy is very long

This also shows that, pain is not permanent but only for a moment. Finally it turned into joy

*4) Pain can't avoided*

It is very clear from the life of Jesus and from the life of the Apostles

If there was one best form with out the pain, Jesus would have definitely chosen

The very fact that Jesus chose this particular path of pain to joy, pain ad sufferings are inevitable in life

*5) Joy after Pain*

The joy which comes after having gone through the pain is more powerful, than anything in this world

Joy come as a result of pain, lasts for long time, and it is for ever in our life

At the same time, there is no short cut for Joy, without having the experience of some suffering

*6) Various pains in my life*

The pain of insecurity
The pain of failures
The pain of criticism
The pain of challenges
The pain of humiliation and shame
The pain of being left alone
The pain of non cooperation from my own people
The pain of rejection
The pain of public insult
The pain of sickness
The pain of laziness

What can I do, to turn these pains into Joy?

The Various Ways of Glorifying God

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Sixth Week : Wednesday*

*Gospel : Jn 16:12-15*

*First Reading : Acts 17:15, 22-18:1*

*The Various Ways of Glorifying God*

*1) Glorifying God*

In today's Gospel Jesus speaks about Glorifying God

Jesus says that it is the Holy Spirit who will glorify God, through his powerful works

In fact the work of the Holy Spirit is to Glorify God in everything

*2) How Holy Spirit Glorifies God?*

The answer is found in today's Gospel

*A) Guiding towards the Truth* It is the primary work of the Holy Spirit to guide every one towards the Truth

Because Holy Spirit itself is truth. Jesus says *The Spirit of Truth*

*B) Speaks whatever is heard from God* The Holy Spirit will not speak on His own

All that is spoken by the Holy Spirit is received from the Father

*He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears*

This is how He will glorif the  Lord

*C) Unity* Another important aspect we see in the Holy Spirit is the Unity between the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit

*"Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.”*

This shows the powerful unity in the Trinity

*3) Three important ways of Glorifying God*

*Truth, Speaking what is heard from God, and the Unity*

These three things always glorify God, because God is always  present in these things at every moment

Proclaiming these above three things and practicing in our life is equal to glorifying God

*4) Other ways of Glorifying God*

Forgiveness
Humility
Simplicity
Service
Sacrifice
Love
Sincerity
Justice

These are the other ways of Glorifying God

*5) Is my life, glorifying God?*

The primary purpose of our life is to glorify God

The moment we fail to glorify God, we cease to exist as the Followers of Jesus

Since we are the image and likeness of God himself, our life has to glorify God in everything

What are the various things which Glorify God in my life???

Role of the Holy Spirit as Advocate

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Sixth Week :  Tuesday*

*Gospel : Jn 16:5-11*

*First Reading : Acts 16:22-34*

*Role of the Holy Spirit as Advocate*

*1) Holy Spirit, The Advocate*

In the Gospel of the day, Jesus speaks about the Holy Spirit, and Sending of the Holy Spirit

Jesus will go to the Father, and He will ask the Father to send the Holy Spirit.

Jesus calls this Spirit as Advocate. So what is the importance of the Advocate? How does the Holy Spirit work as the Advocate?

*2) The Concept of the Advocate*

Advocate is a person who supports or speaks in favour of somebody or of a public plan or action

In other Words Advocate is a  lawyer who defends somebody in a court of law

So according to Jesus the Holy Spirit functions as the advocate in the lives of the Christians

*3) Advocate, The Lawyer and the Holy Spirit*

A lawyer or the Advocate, takes the side of a person and fights in His/her behalf. Likewise, Holy Spirit takes the side of the Followers of Christ, and fights for them

A lwayer fights for the truth till the end. Likewise The Holy Spirit, fights for Truth to save the folowers of Christ

The lwayer takes the pride in winning the case of His/her client. Likewise Holy Spirit takes pride in winning the Souls for Christ

A lawyer gives us the necessary information while fighting for the case. Likewise the Holy Spirit gives us the wisdom and knowledge to fight against our enemies who try to destroy our life

A lawyer will try to show the good works done by the party. Likewise, the Holy Spirit will try to show to the world the good works done for the sake of Jesus

A lawyer always will fill us with courage and hope. Likewise the Holy Spirit will always fill us with hope and courage in our fight against the devil

A good lawyer always tries His/her best to win the case for the client. Likewise, The Holy Spirit will fight in everything to win our position for Christ

*4) The Power of the Holy Spirit*

Nothing can stand against the power of the Holy Spirit

Such a powerful Holy Spirit has been given to us in our baptism and in confirmation

Have I ever realised the power of the Holy Spirit in my life?

How do I respond to the Power of the Advocate who guides me in everything?

Killing for the sake of God

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Sixth Week :   Monday*

*Gospel : Jn 15:26-16:4a*

*First Reading : Acts 16:11-15*

*Killing for the sake of God*

*1) Killing in the Name of worship of God*

In today's Gospel, Jesus highlights one of the important points

Jesus says *The hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God*

Two things are highlighted here.

A) Killing the Followers of Jesus

B) Thinking that this is the real worship of God

Very dangerous situation

*2) In the Present day Context*

There are many fundamentalist and extremists groups who have this wrong and corrupt ideology

In the name of God, and in the name of Religion, some people eliminate the other and they think that it is for the religion and for the sake of God

They think that is the real worship of God

*3) Worship of God and Killings*

There is no religion and scripture says that one is at the service of the other

No religion subscribe this ideology. Killing and Worship of God, for whatever reason can't go together

It is purely and wrong and immoral ideology

*4) The Reason for such an ideology*

Jesus gives the reason for such a corrupt ideology in today's Gospel

All those who follow this ideology, neither know about God, neither the Son, Jesus Christ, neither the Scriptures nor any moral values

Those who follow this ideology are morally corrupt people, who always follow darkness and evil things

That's why this is a very dangerous ideology

*5) We are the victims of this ideology*

Today as we live in our country, we experience the effect of this fascist ideology

The persecutions we face today, the Challenges we have today and the Suffering the followers of Jesus undergo across the glob, is the effect of this ideology

Many think that they are serving God, by killing the followers of Jesus

*6) This is nothing new in it*

If Jesus has mentioned this immoral ideology 2000 years ago, it is very clear that, this is a age old ideology, which existed when the religions came into existence.

If Church has survived over 2000 years, by facing and challenging this ideology means, God is working in our life

So no ideology will be able to conquer the Church and destroy the followers of Jesus

Crooked people will come and go, but church of Christ will survive forever

*7) God is our Strength*

Amidst all these persecutions and challenges, Jesus is always with us

As long as God is with us, no one can destroy us

All those who follow the above fascist ideology, fight against God himself, in which they will never see victory.

Christian spirituality consists in Giving life and not taking life.

*Jesus is our strength*

The Followers of Jesus are not orphans

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Sixth Week :   Sunday*

*Gospel : Jn 14:15-21*

*First Reading : Acts 8:5-8, 14-17*

*SECOND READING 1 Pt 3:15-18*

*The Followers of Jesus are not orphans*

*1) The Concept of Orphan*

Orphan is a person who has no one, especially when the parents are dead, the person becomes an orphan

In the Gospel of the day, we have the concept of Orphan and Jesus says that *I will not leave you orphans*

This means we are always protected, taken care off, accompanied and guided in the right direction

So we are not orphans

*2) Why we are not orphans?*

*A) Jesus is always with Us*

Jesus has said, that I will be with you forever. Accordingly Jesus is with us always through the Eucharistic presence. So we are not orphans

*B) Holy Spirit is with Us*

Jesus has promised us Holy Spirit. He has given us the Holy spirit as He promised. We have received this Holy Spirit, in Baptism and Confirmation. We still receive this Holy Spirit in every sacrament

*C) The Word of God is with Us*

The Bible, the Word of God is with us. We can use it at any time. The moment we read and reflect it, God speaks to us. So we are not orphans

*D) Mother Mary is with us*

Her apparitions are the witness to this fact. Mary has appeared to different people in difference places at different context, thousands of times shows that the Heavenly Mother is always with us. So we are not orphans

*E) Large Number of Saints are with us*

We have number of powerful saints whose intercession is instrumental in getting favours from the Lord. Saints are also helping us to live a good and holy life, through their inspiration and through their intercession. So we are not orphans

*F) The Church is With us* This is what give us the real identity in this world. We proudly say that we belong to the Church of Jesus who is the head of the family. Church is a large family and we are the members of it. SL we are not orphans

*G) The Cross*

The Cross of Jesus is always with us. Cross is a powerful instrument, which can give us victory in any situation. Cross is the sign of Jesus presence in our Life

*H) The Rosary* Christians can't be separated from the Rosary. It is the divine instrument to fight against the Devil and to grow in Holiness. Since Rosary is with us, we are not orphans

*3) Do I feel that I am an Orphan?*

As a Christian, do I feel that I am an orphan? If I feel, then I have separated myself from all the above divine Holy things

As a Christian, I can't feel that I am an orphan. Because Jesus is always with us.

So what do I feel? What can I do to become the active member of Jesus' Family, who is the head of the Church?

The Followers of Jesus do not belong to this World

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Fifth Week : Saturday*

*Gospel : Jn 15:18-21*

*First Reading : Acts 16:1-10*

*The Followers of Jesus do not belong to this World*

*1) The meaning of belonging to this world*

In simple words it can be understood as, living ones life according to the standards of this world

One who belongs to this world, will try to follow the model of this world

The model of this world always tempts you to posses the worldly things and material possessions

*2) The followers of Jesus belong to Jesus*

Since Jesus does not follow the standards of this world, neither the followers of Jesus can adopt this style in ones life

Since Jesus has chosen all of us, for a particular purpose, we are suppose to follow the model of Jesus in achieving this purpose

It is Jesus who works in and through us. Our work is to cooperate with the Lord, in building the Kingdom of God, here on earth

*3) The challenges by the World to the Followers of Jesus*

These are the challenges, which the world throws at us

*A) The World will hate us*

Since, we cooperate with Jesus in following the  standards of the Kingdom of God, we say no to the worldly standards. That is the reason why God will hate us

*B) The world will persecute us*
This is the another challenge by the world for choosing Jesus  and His standards

These days, we feel the pinch of various persecutions across the nation.

This clearly indicates that we are faithful to the heavenly standards

*D) The world will spoil the names of the followers of Jesus*

The present situation is the best example to understand this point

The world spoils our name, by spreading gossip, wrong accusations like conversion and other things as well

*4) Am I belonging to this World or to Jesus*

If I am following the standards of this world, he/she can't belong to Jesus

If I am with Jesus, then I can do anything that God wishes in my Life

Where do I belong? To Jesus or to this world

I have called you friends : Implications of Friendship

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Fifth Week :  Friday*

*Gospel : Jn 15:12-17*

*First Reading : Acts 15:22-31*

*I have called you friends : Implications of Friendship*

*1) Jesus calls us friends*

In today's Gospel Jesus makes it very clear that, He calls us a friends and not slaves

There is a lot difference between a slave and a friend.

Friendship and Slavery is like a day and night. One is opposite to the another

So when Jesus calls us friends, what are the things that we can understand?

*2) Various implications of Friendship*

*A) Better Understanding* Between friends there is a better understanding. So when Jesus calls us friends, a better understanding about the life of Jesus and His mission will be the result of friendship

*B) Ready to Help* : As a genuine friends one is ready to help other at any time. As a good friend Jesus is ready to help us at any time

*C) Ready to Share* : Genuine friends are ready to share whatever they have, when need arrirses. Jesus is also ready to share all the heavenly things like, peace, joy, happiness, forgiveness, love with us

*D) Ready to sacrifice ones life* : There are many instances where friends have given their life for another, in the emergency situations. Friendship has such a power. As a genuine friend Jesus has given His life for our salvation

*E) Ready to cooperate with each other*

Genuine friends always come together, cooperate together, and support one another while doing some important works. As a good friend  Jesus always cooperates with us in our mission for the Lord

*F) Friendship is always a lovely and energetic relationship*

Friendship always makes with energetic, creative and powerful relationship. It always makes us young and healthy. Jesus as a friend, is always energetic, creative, and very powerful in doing anything

*G) Friendship has the capacity to endure everything*

Tolerance is a great quality in our Life. Genuine friendship motivates us to take risks in our lives and to remain peaceful in every situation

*H) Friendship does not count anything*

In friendship,  everything is free. The time spent, the  generosity shown , the service rendered and the love Shared. These things can't be counted in money. Thats why friendship is very powerful, which can't be bought and sold

*3) How is My Friendship with Jesus*

As Jesus calls us friends, what about my reaction?

Am I ready to accept Jesus' friendship without any conditions?

Jesus' friendship is with Human beings and not with Things. What about my Friendship? Is it with things or with people?

Is my friendship with Jesus, dynamic or very dull?

Remain in my (Jesus') love

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Fifth Week : Thursday*

*Gospel : Jn 15:9-11*

*First Reading : Acts 15:7-21*

*Remain in my (Jesus') love*

*1) A beautiful imagery*

Jesus tells to his disciples, to remain in His Love

This is one of the beautiful imageries of Jesus, asking his disciples to remain in Love

In our ordinary language we say, remain in our house, remain in our place, remain in contact, etc. But to say *remain in my love* needs a special approach towards people

*2) The Way - Commandments*

Jesus also shows the way through which one can remain in Jesus' Love

Jesus says *If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,*

There are 10 commandments, but these are summarised by Jesus in the *Commandment of Love*

That's why observing  commandments are ways to remain in love.

*3) Effect of remaining in Jesus' Love*

Jesus says, one who remains in His love, the gift is *Joy*

Jesus says *so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete.*

Joy is the real fruit of Love. Remaining in Jesus' love will lead us to enjoy the heavenly Joy in our Life

*4) The Outcome of remaining in Jesus Love*

Love of Jesus is very powerful. His love is not like the Love of this world

So when we participate is such a powerful love, our life is transformed and as a result we will be able to do the following things

Love of Jesus makes us to forgive others

Love of Jesus makes us to humble ourselves

Love of Jesus makes us to sacrifice our life for others benefit

Love of Jesus makes us to share whatever we have with others

Love of Jesus makes us to generous towards others

Love of Jesus makes us to live a good and moral life

Love of Jesus makes us to speak good about others

Love of Jesus makes us to do good works

Love of Jesus makes us to improve and strengthen our spiritual life

*5) What about Jesus' Love in my Life?*

What is my reaction to the invitation *remain in my love?*

What are the ways which I practice in my life to remain in Jesus' love?

What are the effects which I experience in my life, today, by remaining in Jesus' Love?

Inability of the Branch

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Fifth Week : Wednesday*

*Gospel : Jn 15:1-8*

*First Reading : Acts 15:1-6*

*Inability of the Branch*

*1) The Tree and the branches*

When we see a tree, we always find some branches

A tree with branches always looks beautiful and attractive

These are the two realities, the tree and the branch, always united with each other

*2) Branch can't remain away from the tree*

There is no way that a branch can survive without the tree.

A branch which is separated from the tree always, dries up and dies. It can not live any longer

So the life and future of the branch always depends on the tree

*3) Tree can produce new branches, but branch can't produce new tree*

A separated branch can't produce new tree (Unless the branch is planted once again in the soil, and the branch which has the capacity to take roots in the soil)

So the life of the separated branch always is in question mark

But the tree has the capacity to produce new branches and make itself beautiful and attractive

So the tree does not lose anything. But the separated branch loses everything

*4) Jesus is the vine (tree) we are the branches*

The Gospel of the day makes it very clear that Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches

Unless we remain united with the vine, we can produce nothing

So our strength and life depends only on the vine, who is Jesus

One who remain united with Jesus can bear much fruit. One who separates himself/herself from Jesus, can bear nothing and destroys ones life

*5) The ways of remaining united with Jesus*

As branches we can remain united with Jesus through the following ways

Prayer helps is to remain united with the Lord

Service, humility, simplicity, forgiveness, charity, empathy, sincerity, generosity, co-operation, love, concern, encouragement, etc helps us to remain united with the Lord

The celebration of the sacraments help us to remain united with the Lord

Unless we remain with the Lord, we are nothing

*6) What is my Tendency?*

Is my tendency to remain united with the Lord?

Is my tendency to get separated from the tree to show the power of the branch?

As a branch do I act or like a tree??

Do I have a wrong concept and notion of the Branch?

How can u rectify it?

Peace I leave with you

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Fifth Week :  Tuesday*

*Gospel : Jn 14:27-31a*

*First Reading : Acts 14:19-28*

*Peace I leave with you*

*1) One of the best gifts of Jesus*

Finally Jesus has left His peace with Us

There is nothing greater than Peace, because anything in this world, we can replace, especially the material things

But there is nothing which can replace Peace. Peace can be replaced only with peace

That's why peace is one of the greatest gifts of Jesus to us

*2) Peace can be given only by the one who has the peace*

One who does not have peace, can not give peace at any cost

Since Jesus has the peace, he can give this peace to whomever he wishes to give

The peace which Jesus gives is a perfect and heavenly Peace, which can be given only by a holy person

*3) It is a gift which multiples when one gives it*

The speciality of Jesus' peace is that, it multiplies when it is given and shared

It never gets exhausted, by giving it.

Any material things which are given becomes less and less. But peace never becomes less. It becomes more and more.

This is the speciality of Jesus' peace

*4) What do I have which can I leave for the benefits of others?*

This is s very serious issue that we need to think again and again

What is my legacy to others or to the world?

Like peace of Jesus, what do I have?

Do I have forgiveness to leave?

Do I have, service to leave?

Do I  have justice to leave?

Do I have, love to leave?

Do I have humility to leave?

Do I have an inspiration to leave  to others?

Do I have a holy life to leave for others?

So what is that which can I leave for others?

The Process through which Jesus reveals himself to us

GOSPEL THOUGHTS*

*Easter Season : Fifth Week : Monday*

*Gospel : Jn 14:21-26*

*First Reading : Acts 14:5-18*

*The Process through which Jesus reveals himself to us*

*1) Jesus' Self Revelation to His followers*

The Gospel of the day speaks about Jesus revealing himself to his followers.

This involves a process, which can be simplified in the following way

*A)  Knowing of the Commandments* One Should know the commandments of the Lord. The greatest among them is the Commandment of Love : Love of God and love of the Neighbour.

*B) Observing of the Commandments* Its not enough to know the commandments. But one should observe the commandments of the Lord

*C) Loving the Lord* knowing and observing of the Commandments of the Lord, shows that one loves the Lord. Without love no commandment can be observed.

*D) Loved by the Father* The moment we love Jesus we are Loved by the Father. This is the great gift which God can give us

*E) This leads to the Revelation of Jesus* When we are Loved by the Father, Jesus also Loves us and this leads Jesus to reveal Himself to us

*2) What is the revelation of Jesus to me so far?*

How does Jesus appears to me?

A forgiver of sins?
A person who died on the Cross for my sake?
A person who sacrificed everything for my sake?
A person who loves me unconditionally?

A person who gives me new life and hope?

A person who saves and protects me?

A person shows me the way?

A person who heals my sickness?

A person who brightens my life??

Jesus is the Destiny and the Way

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Fifth Week : Sunday*

*Gospel : Jn 14:1-12*

*First Reading :  Acts 6:1-7*

*SECOND READING - 1 Pt 2:4-9*

*Jesus is the Destiny and the Way*

*1) Jesus means Saviour*

When we say Jesus is the destiny if our life, we understand that Salvation is the destiny of our life

It Jesus the saviour who will save us and we will enjoy the salvation in and through Jesus

So Jesus and salvation could be understood in a similar way. Jesus means salvation and salvation means Jesus

*2) Jesus is the Way to Salvation*

Since Jesus and salvation is closed connected with each other, there is only one way for salvation, that is Jesus

There is no other way for salvation other than Jesus

That's why Jesus says *I am the Way*

So there is no difference between the way and Jesus

Jesus does not say that I have a way, but He says *I am the Way*

*3) Jesus and The Way*

Those who are on *The Way* they are already in Jesus and the part of salvation

Like wise those who are in Jesus they are already on *The Way* which makes a person to enjoy and experience the closeness of Jesus

Jesu' way is available to all. Anyone can try to walk in *The Way* which leads a  person to the right direction and to the right destiny

*4) The Simplification of Jesus The Way*

When we walk on these ways, we walk on *Jesus The Way* which leads to the right destiny

The Way of Forgiveness
The Way of Love
The Way of Sacrifice
The Way of Humility
The Way of Simplicity
The Way of Appreciation
The Way of Sharing
The Way of Service
The Way of Patience
The Way of Faith
The Way of Hope
The Way of Generosity
The Way of Courage
The Way of Truth
The Way of Virtuous Life
The Way of Endurance
The Way of Calmness
The Way of Prayer

*5) Am I ready to Follow the destiny and The Way*

Jesus is the destiny and The Way to the destiny

One who is with Jesus is on the right track and on the right direction

If So, am I ready to accept *The Way* which leads to that destiny?

Is my way corresponds to *The Way* who is Jesus Himself?

What can I do more to move towards the destiny in the right direction???

The Power of the Works

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Fourth Week : Saturday*

*Gospel : Jn 14:7-14*

*First Reading :  Acts 13:44-52*

*The Power of the Works*

*1) Jesus Speaks about the Works*

In today's Gospel Jesus speaks about the Works. He says *believe because of the works themselves*

Works are the powerful symbols of what a person is thinking and doing

By ones works, one is judged and accordingly the popularity grows if the works are genuine and use to others

*2) Many believe Jesus, because of His work*

Today there are millions of people who follow Jesus

They follow Jesus because of His powerful works

Jesus is considered to be the most powerful and effective person because of his mighty deeds

Jesus is known to the entire world because of His forgiveness, because of his healing power, because of his effective preaching, because of his passion, death and resurrection

The works of Jesus qualifies him as the saviour of the World

*3) What are my Works*

As a disciple and follower of Jesus what are my works?

This is a very serious question of our life and we need to find an answer in my life

This also shows us and others whether one has understood Jesus or not?

*4) The powerful works which show Jesus to the entire world*

Forgiveness
Justice
Truthfulness
Sincerity
Sacrifice
Love
Service
Humility
Generosity

These are some of the powerful works which communicate the power of Jesus and the person of Jesus to entire world, through us

*5) The main mission*

The main and important mission of a follower of Jesus in the present day context is that *through our works communicate Jesus to the entire world*

Today, I am the hands of Jesus, ears of Jesus, eyes of Jesus, mouth of Jesus

Today my works, whom does it communicates?

The Troubled Heart

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Fourth Week : Friday*

*Gospel : Jn 14:1-6*

*First Reading :  Acts 13:26-33*

*The Troubled Heart*

*1) Jesus on Troubled Heart*

In today's Gospel Jesus speaks about the troubled heart.

Jesus says *“Do not let your hearts be troubled"*

Hearts which are being troubled, will cause a lot of problems in life. That's why Jesus speaks about hearts and Troubled hearts.

*2) Reasons for troubled hearts*

*A) Lack of faith* This is one of the major causes of the troubled hearts. That's why Jesus says *Have faith in God and Have faith in me also*

*B) Not knowing the way of Life* This is very clear from the expression of Thomas *Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?”*

No knowing the way will create panic in our lives.

*C) Not knowing the destiny*

When a person does not know the destiny, will cause troubles in life

Destiny of our life, destiny of our journey, destiny of our mission, destiny of vision. All these are very important

*3) Other Causes which lead to troubled hearts*

When people believe too much on things and give last  place to God

When a person becomes too greedy for things, gradually it leads to troubled heart

When a person is too selfish in life, it gradually leads to troubled heart

When a person runs after the, worldly glory, pomp and glamour.

When a person is too much attached to the power, position, wealth, money, property, name, status and luxuries of life

When a person is attached to much to the bodily pleasures, it leads to the troubles in heart

*4) Jesus was troubled*

When Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane, he was troubled when he thought about the future mission and his mission through the Cross

When Jesus was troubled, he prayed to the Heavenly Father

When Jesus was troubled, He knelt down and raised His hands a prayed

When Jesus was troubled, he went a lonely place and spent time with His Father

*5) Has my heart Troubled?*

Heart is the centre of our life. If heart is troubled, then the whole person is troubled

So it is very important to go into our heart and see, what type of troubled is found in my heart?

Is my heart troubled because of the health issues?

Is my heart is troubled because of financial issues?

Is my heart troubled because of the evil habits in life?

Is my heart troubled because, of the injustice in my life?

Is my heart troubled because of my family issues?

Is my heart troubled because of my children?

Is my heart troubled because of my broken relationship?

Is my heart troubled because of my lack of trust in people?

Various Signs that I have received Jesus in my Life

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Easter Season : Fourth Week : Thursday*

*Gospel : Jn 13:16-20*

*First Reading : Acts 13:13-25*

*Various Signs that I have received Jesus in my Life*

*1) Jesus speaks about receiving Him in ones life*

In today's Gospel Jesus speaks about receiving Jesus in ones life

Jesus says *whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.*

When one receives Jesus He/she also receives the Father in ones life

This also highlights the importance of receiving Jesus in our life

*2) Various signs that one has received Jesus in ones life*

If the person us able to *forgive*, He/She has received Jesus in his/her life

If the person us able to *Love*, He/She has received Jesus in his/her life

If the person us able to *Sacrifice for the sake of the other*, He/She has received Jesus in his/her life

If the person us able to *Humble in life*, He/She has received Jesus in his/her lif

If the person us able to *Serve the needy*, He/She has received Jesus in his/her life

If the person us able to *Share whatever one has*, He/She has received Jesus in his/her life

If the person us able to *Smile gracefully*, He/She has received Jesus in his/her life

If the person us able to *encourage and appreciate others*, He/She has received Jesus in his/her life

If the person us able to *control ones jealousy, anger, hatred, pride, revengeful attitude, and selfishness*, He/She has received Jesus in his/her life

*3) What are the signs in my Life that I have received Jesus in my life?*

Do I believe because I have received baptism, that I have received Jesus in my life?

Do I believe because I receive communion during mass, that I have received Jesus in my life?

Do I believe because I dont do any harm of injustice to others, that I have received Jesus in my life?

These are the external signs. But what are the real signs in my life?

If I am taking revenge for every little thing, if I am always jealous, if I cheat others in many ways, if I am a self centred and selfish person, how can I say that I have received Jesus and is living in me??

*4) Receiving and Making to remain forever is a great Challenge*

At times receiving Jesus may be very easy. But to make him to remain in our life, is a great challenge

One has to struggle continuously, to make our life comfortable to remain Jesus in our life

The core spirituality of Christian life depends on receiving Jesus in our life, making him to stay in our life and giving others the same Jesus from our life
