Gospel – Matthew 18:1-5
First Reading – Is 66:10-14
Why Jesus presents the Child?
1) Who is greatest?
This is the question which disturbs many at different occasions and for different reasons
No one has the perfect answer to this question, because of the nature of the question
Trying to become always great will make our life more difficult and at times may become the cause all kinds of unnecessary challenges
2) The disciples were also part of this question
Even though the disciples were with Jesus still the question *Who is greatest* haunted them many times
That is why they had an open discussion to finalize who is greatest among them
They thought being greatest in the eyes of the world was some great Achievement
3) Jesus' relay
The disciples did not ask the answer for this question
Neither Jesus gave them the direct answer. Jesus only brought a small child and place in front of them and asked them to become like little children.
So this is the answer for the question *Who is the greatest*
4) Why Jesus presented the Child
Jesus gives us the example of child to answer the question? *Who is greatest* why does Jesus used the example of a child?
A)First of all the children are not disturbed with this question
Secondly children do not ask such questions. They are hardly bothered about such question
Thirdly child is not there in the list of becoming great
Fourthly all accept child, because of its innocence. People don't find fault with the children.
Child
is able to listen.
And child always listens to another peron and believes what others say.
Child does not argue with the other about who is greatest
It appears that Jesus had no other best example to communicate e powerfully the answer to this question Who is greatest?
5) What about me?
Am I able to understand the logic of becoming like child?
The child like attitude does not bother about who is greatest
Does this question disturbs me?
Does this question spoils my peace of mind?
Does this question create an anxiety, worry and tension in me
If yes - then I have not become a child
If no (if the question does not disturb me) then I am trying to become like child
What is your choice?
God bless you and your family. Praying for you and your dear ones.
