The Gentile Daughter and the Syrophoenician Woman become the Children of God

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Ordinary Season  : 5th Week: Thursday*

*Gospel : Mk 7:24-30*

*First Reading : 1 Kgs 11:4-13*

*The Gentile Daughter and the Syrophoenician Woman become the Children of God*

*1) Children of God according to Jews*

According to their understanding and argument, only the people of Israel, so called the chosen people are the Children of God

They think that by birth they are eligible for salvation. Messiah only belongs to them and others have no part in it

Other than Jews are considered sinners, unclean people and not eligible for the salvation

*2) Children of God according to Jesus*

Any one can become the child of God

This provision is not reserved for certain class of people, or sections of people

It is not meant for certain areas,  language or territory

It is universal, and anyone can become the children of God

*3) Daughter and the Woman*

The Gospel of the day  shows how these gentile people become the children of God

By birth they were non Jews. Accordingly they are not eligible for salvation

Messiah is not meant for them

Such a belief is challenged by Jesus and by granting the favour to the woman and the child Jesus strongly conveys the message that all are eligible for salvation

They became the real and genuine children of God

*4) Necessary things to become the Children of God*

The necessary things needed to become the children of God from the woman and the daughter

First of all a deep sense of faith in Jesus

Secondly,  the virtue of humility

Thirdly, a strong sense of perseverance

Fourthly: complete dependence on God

When these things reflect in life anyone can become the child of God

*5) Am I the real child of God?*

Do I claim, that because of Baptism I am a child of God or do I have the above qualities?

What are the virtues which are found in me, which make me the Child of God?

Do I live my life, according to the Child of God?

*Think about it*

*God bless you and your family. Praying for you and your dear ones*
