Learned Vs Child like

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Ordinary Season: Fifteenth Week : Wednesday*

*Gospel : Mt 11:25-27*

*First Reading : Is 10:5-7, 13b-16*

*Learned Vs Child like*

*1) Two categories of People*

In today's Gospel Jesus mentions two categories of people

Wise and learned people, secondly the Child like people

God's revelation is hidden from the learned people

God's revelation is given to the child like people

Why such a difference between these two?

*2) Wise or Learned people*

During the time of Jesus scribes and Pharisees could be considered as wise and learned people

They were teachers of the law and they were scholars

They knew about religion, about scriptures, about the prophesies of Messiah, and many other things

They were experts in many other ways

That's why they were considered wise and learned people

*3) Child like People*

These are the Apostles of Jesus and also those who believe and followed Jesus

These were fishermen folk, uneducated but simple people who were not intelligent like the scribes and Pharisees

They believed what Jesus said and followed him

In other words their attitude was like the child, who believes completely on the parents and follows them

Here the Apostles and other simple people simply followed Jesus because of their child like attitude

*4) Pride and Humility*

The pride of scribes and Pharisees didn't allow their to have a great revelations from God

They considered themselves as knowing everything and there isn't anything, which they can learn from Jesus

They were not ready to listen to Jesus.

As a result they missed the great revelations from God

Where as the simple people like apostles and others had great virtue of humility, which made them open up themselves to the revelation of God

Finally these people received great revelations from God

*5) What is my attitude?*

One needs humility and child like trust and faith in God to have great revelations from God

Do I have the qualities of a child?

Jesus says, *“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.* Mt 18:3

What is blocking in my life to become like a child?

My pride
My arrogance
My self righteousness
My ego
My sinful life
My anger
My jealousy
My confidence in material things?

*Think about it*
