The Value of the Treasure and the Pearl

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Ordinary Season: Seventeenth Week : Wednesday*

*Gospel : Mt 13:44-46*

*First Reading : Jer 15:10, 16-21*

*The Value of the Treasure and the Pearl*

*1) Kingdom of God, Treasure and Pearl*

The Gospel of the day places before us two small parables of Jesus 

One parable speaks about the hidden treasure and the other one speaks about the priceless peral 

Both these parables speak about the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is like the Hidden treasure and Priceless pearl 

*2) Sacrifice to achieve great Things*

Once the person realises the  worth of the treasure and the pearl, the person sells everything, in order to buy the hidden treasure and the priceless pearl 

It appears that having the hidden treasure and the priceless pearl is the main goal of life 

Finally the person is ready to give up everything in order to achieve these great things 

*3) Hidden treasures and Priceless pearl in Christian Life*

In our spiritual life we do have great treasures and priceless pearl. Some of them could be following 

The Eucharist 

The Scripture / Bible 

The sacrament of reconciliation

All the sacraments 

Great treasure and priceless pearls of Christianity

*4) Have I realised the value?*

When we find the real treasure and priceless pearl we are ready to sacrifice anything to posses the great things 

It means that we know the value of these things 

What about spiritual things?

Do I really know the value of Eucharist? 

Do I really know the value of the Bible? 

Do I really know the value of the sacraments and other important spiritual things?

*5)  Reaction towards the Great treasure and Pearl*

Zacchaeus, who knew the value of Jesus, gave up everything and followed Jesus 

St Ignatius of Loyola, realised the great treasure of Jesus and His mission, gave up everything to proclaim Christ

Mother Theresa realised the great value of, service to the mankind. Therefore she gave up everything and followed Jesus  

*6) How about me?*

Have a realised the value of the great treasure of the Person of Jesus, treasure of Eucharist and the pearl, the Scripture? 

Am I ready to sacrifice all other things to have this great treasure and the priceless Pearl?
