GOSPEL THOUGHTS
*Ordinary Season: Thirty Second Week : Friday*
*Gospel : Lk 17:26-37*
*First Reading : 2 Jn 4-9*
*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 119:1, 2, 10, 11, 17, 18*
*Remember the wife of Lot : She Looked back*
*1) One who looks back, is not worthy*
*No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.* Luke 9:62
The message of Jesus is very clear. Looking back is certain kind of unwillingness to follow Jesus and His teaching
*2) Looking back : The Lot's wife*
We have this incident in the Book of Genesis
As Lot and His family members were fleeing from the place, because God wanted to destroy the cities, Lot and His family were given special consideration because of their righteous life
As they were fleeing, Lot's wife looked back and she turned into pillar of Salt
It was considered as a punishment from the Lord for looking back
*3) What was the Sin of Lot's wife*
The sin of Lot’s wife was not in her actions, but in her heart.
She broke the command of the Lord, which said *Flee for your life, do not look back or stop anywhere in the Plains*
She Looked back Sodom and Gomorrah, which were known for their immorality
In other words she didn't want to come out of such situation completely
God wanted to make her new, but she liked her old life better.
*4) Looking back has deeper meaning*
To desire for old way of life
To remain in old or sinful life
Unwillingness to change
Desire for sensual pleasures
Preference for worldly things
Unwillingness to detach oneself form old things
Ignoring the new and better things
*5) Result of Looking back*
This event clearly shows that looking back will result in total destruction. Lot's wife became salt. Salt is diluted in the water within no time.
living in the past leads to death in the present. This is the great lesson we learn from lots life
When we hold onto a grudge from the past, it kills a friendship in the present.
When we hold onto our guilt from the past, it destroys our freedom in the present.
When we hold onto our sins from the past, it corrupts our integrity in the present.
*6) Looking back in my Life*
How does this take place in my life?
Do I look forward like Lot or do I look back like Lot's wife?
What are the areas which compel me to look back in my life?
Like Lot, to look forward always needs a great courage. Do I have that courage?
There is a lot of curiosity involved in looking back. Will I be able to over come from this temptation?
*Think about it*
*God bless you and your family. Praying for you and your dear ones*
