Wickedness blinds ones vision

Gospel Thoughts*

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 4th Week - Friday*

*GOSPEL - Jn 7:1-2, 10, 25-30*

*FIRST READING - Wis 2:1a, 12-22*

*Wickedness blinds ones vision*

*1) Wickedness in the First Reading*

The entire reading speaks about the wickedness and its different form

Through out reading, it says that the wickedness of those who plan the innocent people to destroy takes diffent forms

Finally it shows that by all means these wicked people wanted to eliminate the just one, since they opposed their wrongdoings.

*2) Result of the Wickedness is blindness*

Those people who were involved with wickedness, finally become blind to so many things

The first reading says that they became blind to the hidden counsels of God;

They became blind to importance of Holiness

They became blind to the innocent souls’ reward.

Finally we can say that they became blind to every spiritual reality

*3) Various forms of Wickedness*

In our life wickedness can reflect in diffent forms. These are some examples

Pride
Arrogance
Anger
Jealousy
Gossip
Revenge
Immoral things
Telling lies
Cheating
Greed for wordky things
Insincerity
Selfishness

These above things lead to wicked things in ones life

*4) Wickedness blinds our vision*

When the wicked things takes control of our life, our vision towards good things becomes blur and we will not be able see the value of
 good things

Vision towards forgiveness
Vision towards love
Vision towards sharing
Vision towards generosity
Vision towards good values
Vision towards cooperation
Vision towards justice
Vision towards faithfulness
Vision towards holiness
Vision towards prayer
Vision towards the purity of Life

When the vision towards these things becomes blur, wickedness becomes strong. So one needs to be careful about these things in life

*5) How Sharp my vision is towards good things?*

Today we need to reflect about the sharpness of our vision towards the Good things

How far my vision is able to grasp the reality of good and bad in a particular thing

How quick my vision  to realise the importance of, forgiveness, love, sacrifice, sharing, love, concern and other things in life

*Think about it*

I see how stiff-necked this people is : Do I belong to this Group?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 4th Week - Thursday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 5:31-47*

*FIRST READING - Ex 32:7-14*

*“I see how stiff-necked this people is : Do I belong to this Group?*

*1) God calls the Israel as Stiff necked people*

Stiff necked people could be understood as those people who are very proud or stubborn in their approach

Such people do not listen to any one and they think that they are tight in everything whatever they do

A stiffneck is a uncomfortable position and not able to have free movement

God calls the People of Israel as stiff necked people because they became proud and stubborn in their approach

*2) Why God called them as stiff necked people*

The first reading of the day gives us the following reasons

They had forgotten the God who brought them out from the slavery of Egypt

Instead of Worshiping, Thanking and praising one true God, they created their own God - A golden calf - and adored it as God

They replaced the God of Israel, with this Golden calf

They broke all the promises of God who protected them and gave them 10 commandments

For these reasons God called them as stiff necked people

*3) Stiff necked people are unable to Change*

Those people who belong to this group, they are unable to change

They do not understand the value of Change and need of it

Such an attitude is contrary to God's salvific plan and one becomes ineligible for the salvation

Refusing to Change, is contrary to the Spirit of the Lent and also to God's plan

*4) What about my Life?*

Am I stiff-necked person about the following things

Forgiveness, humility, sacrifice, love, faithfulness, sharing, service, reconciliation, and other kingdom values?

Do I exhibit my stiff-necked behaviour, while some one approaches me for help, for a smile, for a good word, for a companionship, for love, for a favour, etc

*5) Lent is a special time to over come my stiff-necked behaviour*

Lenten spirit and the practices should help us in overcoming our Stiff-necked baviour in my life

Stiff-necked behaviour and Lenten Spirit do not go hand in hand with each other. So there is a strong need for change

Stiff-necked person can have only a limited vision or one sided vision since he is not able to turn his neck and see the other side

Like wise our mind, heart, thinking pattern, can very well be influenced by Stiff-necked baviour, making the transformation difficult in  life

How is my approach? Stiff-necked or not?

This is what God says in today's Gospel.

From this, it becomes very clear that, God is at work all time and He is not lazy, while doing His work

It is also clear that God is quick and swift in Doing His duty and responsibility towards the Humanity

*2) What God is busy doing?

Jesus says *My Father is at work until now* If so, what God is busy in doing

God is busy in loving me
God is busy in forgiving me

God is busy in showing the goodness and newness of one more new day in my life
God is busy in telling me that Good life as always make us happy and joyful
God is busy in showing the good things
God is busy in giving me the opportunities to serve and love the poor
God is Busy in being with me always
God is busy in recreating my whole being again and again
God is busy in showing the beauty of reconciliation and the value of Mercy

So God is busy in Doing lot of Good work for our sake

*3) So I am at*

These are Jesus' words about Himself

Accordingly Jesus was busy in doing His work, which involves, preaching, teaching, healing and every good deed.

Since Jesus is Working at all the time, His disciples should be busy in doing some work

*4) About What Work I must be busy?*

As a disciple of Jesus I  must be busy at all times. If so, what should be my work?

I must be busy in knowing the value of Forgiveness and reconciliation

I must be busy with loving others and not hating them

I must be at work, of practicing what I preach

I must be busy in knowing the importance of sacrifice, service, humility, sincerity, smile, simplicity of Life, good relationship, hard wotk

I must be busy in knowing the, dangers of evil, temptations, weaknesses,

I must be busy in bringing peace Within myself, around and in the society

I must be busy in doing the examination of the conscience and accepting the faults

I must be busy in Thanking And Praising God, for his bountiful blessing and Grace.

*5) Lent is a time of working and not remaining neutral*

Lent is a special time for work.

Primarily, this work should invove in reforming our personal life and our Attitude

Secondly lent is a time of work on our emotional life, our behaviour, and prayer life

Thirdly lent is a time of conversion of the heart and mind

*So primarily, am I working or  not?*

If I am working, it is better to clarify about type of work I am doing

If not working, better to start than never.

Rise, Take up your mat and Walk

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 4th Week - Tuesday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 5:1-16*

*FIRST READING - Ez 47:1-9, 12*

*Rise, Take up your mat and Walk*

*1) In the Context of Healing, Jesus says these words*

In today's Gospel we find a person who was sick for 38 years and was hoping for the Healing

Even tough he had much faith in the water of the pool at Bethsaida, finally he met Jesus.

Jesus uses the different method to heal him and not as he thought that some one would help him to get into the water

So in this context, Jesus says to Him, *Rise, take up your mat and walk*

*2) Three Actions are highlighted here*

*First -  Rising* : Willingness to Rise is very much necessary in order to experience the healing

*Secondly : Taking up his mat* We need to reflect deeply about this. What is the mat that is necessary?

*Thirdly : Walking* Walikg is the gesture of movement, and movement is the symbol of Growth, healing and Change

*3) What is the Mat that we need to carry in our life?*

It is not enough to rise and walk, but we need to carry the mat along with us

We need to carry the mat of faith with us

We need to carry the mat of courage in us

We need to carry the mat of change in us

We need to carry the mat of love in us

We need to carry the mat of determination with us

We need to carry the mat of new life with  us

We need to carry the mat of conversion of heart and mind in us

We need to carry the mat of prayer with us

We need to carry the mat of service in us

So all the mats will help us to rise and walk towards a new life

*4) Lent is a special Time*

Lent is a special time to rise and walk, along with various spiritual mats for renewing our life

The mat of prayer, fast, and almsgiving are the important mats which we need to carry during this special time of Lent

As lent invites us to rise and walk towards the new life and life in Christ, let's take these mats and walk along with Jesus to experience new life

*5) Am I ready for this Challenge?*

Jesus says the same words to us

Rise, take your mat and walk

Am I ready to do that?

Or do I want to sit near the pool of my old life, waiting for the miracle to happen???

*Think about it*

God wants to create a new heaven and a new earth in my Life - Am I ready for it?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 4th Week - Monday*

*GOSPEL -  Jn 4:43-54*

*FIRST READING - Is 65:17-21*

*God wants to create a new heaven and a new earth in my Life - Am I ready for it?*

*1) New Heaven and a New Earth*

The First Reading of the day speaks about the New Heaven and New Earth

It is God who wants to create this New Heaven and New Earth

Since this appears to be a beautiful concept, we can think of allowing God to create this New Heaven and Earth in my Life.

*2) What should not be there in the New Heaven and New Earth*

God says that the Past things Should not be remembered

The past things may be our failures, our weaknesses, our self centered achievements, our narrow mentality and other not so good things.

All these things should not be remembered in the New Heaven and New Earth

God also says that the past things should not even come to our mind

Because past things work as a hindrance to create a new heaven and a new earth. Therefore the past things should not come to our mind

*3) What things Should be found in the New Heaven and New Earth?*

God says that there should be always rejoicing and happiness in the New Heaven and New Earth

Various ways which can bring happiness and create a feeling of rejoicing could be the Following

Forgiveness
Love
Sacrifice
Humility
Commitment
Sharing
Hard Work
Prayer
Peace
Adjustment
Eucharist
Reading of the Scripture
Meditation on the Word of God

These are the various ways which bring us happiness in the New Heaven and New Earth

*4) Lent is a apt time to create a New Heaven and a New Earth*

The mood of the Lent leads us to create a atmosphere, where we can think of New Heaven and a New Earth

The three pillars of Lent, namely Prayer, Fasting, and almsgiving are the best ways to create a New Heaven and New Earth.

*5) Am I ready for New Heaven and a New Earth?*

God wants to create a New Heaven and New Earth in my life.

Allowing God to create a new Heaven and a New Earth will make our life Holy, Blessed and Peaceful

Allowing to create a new heaven and a new Earth, will show us what is right and what is wrong, the purpose of our life and our place in front of God

New Heaven and New Earth will always bring the New Ways in our life, which will make our life more creative, innovative, and powerful

So am I ready to allow God to create New Heaven and a New Earth in my life????

How the Son became a Prodigal Son?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 4th Week - Sunday*

*GOSPEL -  Lk 15:1-3, 11-32*

*FIRST READING Jos 5:9a, 10-12*

*SECOND READING - 2 Cor 5:17-21*

*How the Son became a Prodigal Son?*

*1) A Son from Good Family*

The Parable shows us that Father was a wonderful man with compassionate heart.

This Shows that the Son belonged to a good and a holy a family

*2) How he became then a prodigal Son?*

*A) Desire for Property and possession*

This is the first thing that entered into his mind

The desire was so strong which made him to ask for the property when the father is still alive

This means that He considered that His father is no more and completely forgot his responsibility towards the Father

*B) Son wanted a freedom from the Father*

The son thought that he can't enjoy the full freedom when he is with the father

So he wanted to go away from his father to enjoy the so called free which ended up in misery

*C) Went to a distant Country*

After getting the Property, he didn't stay within the vicinity, where his father lived.

He goes away from the Father as far as possible.

The distance from the Father also made him a prodigal Son

*D) Squandering of the Valuable things*

In the distant land instead of using the valuable things He squandered the valuable things for the immoral life

Finally this led him to lose everything and became a prodigal son

*3) My life and Prodigal Son*

Like prodigal son we also belong to a rich and wealthy family, a family of God

Our Father is a compassion Father who respects our freedom

We inherit lots of Good things from our heavenly Father

Good values like compassion, knowledge, Courage, understanding, leadership, talents, skills, intelligence, sharpness of mind, willingness to work hard. So all these things are given to us by our Heavenly Father, where we belong

*4) Tendency to Squander the above things*

In all of us there is a element of selfishness and personal interest.

The moment we squander the above things, they make us poor and homeless people

Squandering means, misuse of the talents and skills for personal gains, which make us prodigal people

*5) Am I a prodigal Son?*

All of us belong to the family of prodigal Son

Only we need to reflect to find out the percentage of it in our life

How far have I become the prodigal son/daughter? 10% 25%, 50%, 70% or more than this?

Let's us try to find out the prodigal son in our life, and see what is the reaction of this prodigal Son in my Life?

What can I do with you Ephraim and Judha? Today God asks me : What can I do with You?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 3rd Week - Saturday*

*GOSPEL - Lk 18:9-14*

*FIRST READING Hos 6:1-6*

*What can I do with you Ephraim and Judha?*

*Today God asks me : What can I do with You?*

*1) What can I do with Ephraim?*

The tone of the Question tells us that, God is not happy with Ephraim

It is not that God does not know what to do with Ephraim, but because of the failure from the part of Ephraim, God is asking this question.

The deeper meaning could be *what else I can do to save you?* This is what meant in this particular question.

*2) Why This question is asked to Ephraim?*

The first reading says that the piety or Love is like a morning Cloud or like a dew

*The speciality of Morning Cloud*

Morning cloud is found only in the Morning

It disappears within no time.

Nothing happens with morning cloud. It can't bring rain

Morning cloud fails to bring any change

*The speciality of Morning Dew*

Once again only in the morning this dew is found

It disappears when the Sun comes up

Its effect is very short

Sometimes morning dew becomes a problem than any help

So the love of Ephraim is like a morning cloud and morning dew, which has only temporary effect, which can bring no change

*3) Morning Clouds, Morning Dew and my Life*

This concept has direct reference to my life.

Let's see the various things which I practice in my day today life fall under the above category?

Is my generosity like morning cloud and dew?

Whether the various values Fall under the category of morning cloud or morning Dew?

*What about the following values?*

The value of truth
The value of love
The value of devotion
The value of humility
The value of sincerity
The value of sharing
The value of sacrifice
The value of faithfulness
The value of smile

All these above values in my life, follow the logic of Morning clouds or dew?

*4) The Rain and the coming of Dawn*

When rain comes it wets the ground and produceses the fruit.

Rain does not go away with out producing some effect or the other

*Coming up dawn and the Sun* is once again a practical reality which we experience.

This is never ending reality. Its a continues process

So Our love should belong to the family of Sun, and Rain water

*5) What About my life?*

Which concept do I use regularly or to which area  my life is inclined more??

Rain water concept
Sun and its powerful light
Morning Clouds
Morning Dew

Where do I belong?

Where do my love and piety belong?

*Finally God askes me : What can I do with You?*

*Think about it*

*God bless you and your family. Praying for you and your dear ones*

Pondering Leads to the Wonders in Life

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : 2nd Week - Friday*

*Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord*

*GOSPEL -  Lk 1:26-38*

*FIRST READING Is 7:10-14; 8:10*

*SECOND READING - Heb 10:4-10*

*Pondering Leads to the Wonders in Life*

*1) What is pondering*

The word pondering comes in today's Gospel.

When Angel Gabriel greeted Mary she was troubled at the Greeting of the Angel, but at the same time, She pondered about the greetings and its relevance

Pondering means *think about (something) carefully, especially before making a decision or reaching a conclusion*

This what Mary did by pondering on the greetings of the Angel

*2) Mary Starts the conversation after pondering*

The Gospel clearly shows us that, Mary began her conversation after pondering on the greetings of the Angel.

This means, Mary reflected well about the plan of God, in order to make a right and wise decision

Mary's pondering appears as a foundation for her decision which will help her, in making a right choice

*3) The Result of pondering*

First of all she was able to enter into the conversation with the Angel

Secondly she was able to clarify her doubts with the Angel

Thirdly she was able to see the greatness of Gods plan of salvation

Fourthly she was able to understand her role in the plan of salvation and the need of God for a woman to carry out the plan

Finally she was able to accept the will of God and offered herself to the service of God.

*4) The Wonders of Pondering*

Mary Because a great person in the History

She became the Mother of God

She got a chance to give birth to the Son of God, conceived through the power of the Holy Spirit

She became a first tabernacle in the World.

Finally she became the Mother of the Church and the Mother of entire human race

*5) Am I ready to ponder?*

Like Mary at times we are troubled with many things. What would be our response at that time?

In fact we need to ponder every situation of our life, in order to choose the right thing in life

One who ponders makes a right decision and succeeds in life

*6)Various things which help us in pondering*

Prayer
Meditation on the word of God
Spending time in silence
Reading of the Word of God
Celebration of the Sacraments especially the Eucharist and reconciliation

*7) Lent is a special time for pondering*

A special time for pondering the passion of Christ

A special time to ponder on the importance of conversion of our life

Time to ponder on the need and necessity of love, service, sacrifice, humility, simplicity, forgiveness, prayer etc

*So am I ready to ponder on the above mentioned values?*

*3) Turning ones face to God*

This gesture exhibits a positive attitude and energy

This is a gesture of conversion and experiening God very closely

Turning ones face towards God, helps to renew ones commitment and to serve better

*We are debtors before God*

*1) The meaning of the Debtor*

Debtor is a person who owes money to another person

In other words debtor is a person who takes either things, money or any other services from another, which has to be paid later

So debtor has the duty and moral obligation to return to the concerned person what he has taken from another

The Gospel clearly tells us that after a reasonable time, the Master summoned the servant or the debtor to settle the accounts

The Gospel also says that the debtor had to pay a huge amount to the Master

So the debtor was brought before the Master to settle the accounts. But the servant has no money to pay back. So he pleaded for some more time to settle the accounts

*3) We are all debtors before God*

All that we have, is the Gift of God

In accounting language we can say all that we have is nothing but the assets which we have received from God

The Purpose of these things is very clear, that we need to working on it and when the time comes we need to settle the Accounts.

*4) What is the Debt that we have in our life?*

*The debt of generosity* our life is a generosity of God. Pay back by being generos to one another

*The debt of Humility* Jesus' Humility is great for our sake. Pay back by being practicing humility

*The debt of five senses* All five senses are Gods assets  to us. We need to use it and pay back to God

*The debt of Good health, wisdom, knowledge, creativity,*

All these we receive from God, So its our responsibility to settle the accounts

*5) What do I have today to resettle the Accounts*

Am I ready for accounting year to check the amount of debt that is still pending

What all things so far I have rapid to the Master, from our life.

Will the Accounts of my life show profit, or Loss?

Will it show a huge amount of debt??

What are the other options at my disposal to settle the Accounts.

*6) Lent is a special time to resettle the accounts of my life*

Lent is a special time to check and  resettle the accounts of our life

Prayer, confession, retreats, way of the Cross, and other liturgical celebrations are the various auditors to check the accounts of my life and to check the present condition of it

“Go and wash seven times in the Jordan, : Am I ready?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : Third Week: Monday*

*GOSPEL - Lk 4:24-30*

*FIRST READING - 2 Kgs 5:1-15ab*

*“Go and wash seven times in the Jordan, : Am I ready?*

*1) Prophets command to Naaman*

Naaman was a leper, who wanted a cure from His leprosy.

So finally he learns that there is a great prophet in Israel, and he comes to the prophet with the request to heal from his leprosy

So the prophet said that, Naaman Should bath 7 times in the River Jordan, inorder to get rid from the leprosy

Accordingly he went to the river bathed seven times and he was cured.

*2) Lent is a time to wash ourselves in the Jordan*

Lent is a special time given by God to us to wash ourselves in the River Jordan

God says, *Go and wash seven times in the River Jordan*

The same cammand which was given to Leper Naaman is also given to us and it is very much applicable to us.

If so, how to enter into the river Jordan to take bath in it??

*3) Jordan in my Life*

To cleanse from our leprosy of sinful life we need to enter into the Jordan and wash to cleanse  ourselves.

The following things can be understood as the river Jordan

We need to enter into the river of forgiveness and bath seven times

We need to enter into the river of sacrifice and bath seven times

We need to enter into the river of generosity, service, love, sharing, and faithfulness and need to bath seven times

We need to enter into the river of commitment, truth, sincerity, care, concern and need to bath seven times

We need to enter the river of prayer, sacraments, scripture and Rosary and need to take bath seven times

*4) Naaman and Me*

Like Naaman, all of us are lepers

All of us need a healing from our leprosy

Like Naaman we need to immerse ourselves in the river of Christian spirituality along with various kingdom values to feel the healing power of God

If So  am I ready to immerse myself into these rivers to bath seven tines?

Remove the sandals from your feet

Gospel Thoughts*

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : Third Week: Sunday*

*GOSPEL - Lk 13:1-9*

*FIRST READING - Ex 3:1-8a, 13-15*

*SECOND READING 1 Cor 10:1-6, 10-12*

*Remove the sandals from your feet*

*1)Mosses was asked to remove the Sandals*

As Moses was tending the flock of His Father in Law, he saw a burning bush, which was not consumed by the fire

So Mosses went near the Bush to see its speacility

As he approached near the bush, God called him and said,  *Come no nearer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground*

Since the Ground was holy he was asked to remove the sandals.

*2) Sandals represents the unholy or Dirty thing*

Sandals we use in the feet. It is likely that they become dirty.

Such dirty things can't be used in the holy place. One is supposed to remove and enter the Holy place

*3) Sandals in my Life*

The concept of the sandals has a very deep meaning to our life

There are varieties of sandals which we wear in our daily life. Following may be some of them

The sandal of jealousy
The sandal of pride
The sandal of greed
The sandal of revenge
The sandal of anger
The sandal of gossip
The sandal of hatred
The sandal of laziness
The sandal of desire of wordly things
The sandal of criticism

We are supposed to remove these sandals to entre into the holy Place

*4) Lent is a Special time to remove the Sandals*

Lent is a special time given to us  by God to remove the various dirty sandals from our life

With the spirit of prayer, fasting and Almsgiving one can remove the sandals from ones life

Removing of sandals is a continuous process. It needs lots of efforts and commitment.

*5) Am I ready to remove the Sandals?*

At times we have a wrong conception that sandals protect us from harm

But only good sandals can protect us.

So the question is what type of sandals we need to remove from our life??

"How do I remove the sandals from my life??*

Unwilling to expose someone to Shame : Great Quality

Gospel Thoughts*

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : Second Week: Saturday*

*GOSPEL - Mt 1:16, 18-21, 24a*

*FIRST READING - 2 Sm 7:4-5a, 12-14a, 16*

*SECOND READING Rom 4:13, 16-18, 22*

*Solemnity of St Joseph*

*Unwilling to expose someone to Shame : Great Quality*

*1) Joseph was unwilling to expose Mary to Shame*

The Gospel of the day clearly presents to us that, Joseph didn't want expose Mary to Shame

Even thought from the point of view from Human Reason, he had sufficient ground to expose her to shame, but Joseph didn't do that

By not exposing Mary to shame, two things become very clear

First of all it reflects the quality of the Life of Joseph. It shows that Joseph's life was filled with, good values and concern for others

Secondly, it also safeguards the dignity of Mary. By not exposing her to shame, He not only safeguards her dignity, but also the life of Mary

*2) Putting some one into Shame is devilish attitude*

Only those people who are rude and cruel, try to put others into Shame

That's why, putting some one into shame means a public insult, which makes the life of the person so difficult and challenging

A person who faces the problem of shame, to such person it becomes very difficult to face the life and to live.

*3) Do I have the tendency of putting some one into Shame?*

What about my life? Do I have this tendency of putting someone into shame?

Do I feel happy when some one faces such situation?

Like Joseph can I think about others dignity and value of their life?

What can I do to safeguard the dignity of my fellow being?

How powerful Reuben in me?

Gospel Thoughts*

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : Second Week: Friday*

*GOSPEL - Mt 21:33-43, 45-46*

*FIRST READING - Gn 37:3-4, 12-13a, 17b-28a*

*How powerful Reuben in me?*

*1) Reuben the Plan Changer*

The Character of Reuben appears in the First Reading of today

Reuben is, one of the Sons of Jacob and the brother of Joseph

Since Jacob loved Joseph more than any one else, since he was the last one, other brothers became jealous of Him

So when they were taking care of the Sheep, Jacob visits them according to instructions of Jacob.

In this context the brothers come together to Kill Joseph.

But Reuben is the one who changes this plan and saves Joseph

*2) Intention of Reuben*

Reuben had very good and positive intention in changing the Plan

First of all he wanted to save the life of Joseph

Secondly He wanted him to return to his Father safe and Sound

Thirdly, he didn't want to become the part of those brothers who were trying to kill Joseph

*3) Very Crucial Role of Reuben*

Reuben played a very crucial Role.

This is because, because of Reuben, the life of Joseph was saved

Because of Reuben, instead of something bad, something good happen, which turned into a blessing in the later years

The role of Reuben also becomes crucial because, since the plan changed from killing life to saving life, which turn out be a blessing in the later years.

*4) How is Reuben in my life?*

He is the one who saved life from his evil brothers.

There are many things in my life, which try to kill my holy life, holy self and authentic Christian life and Gospel values

Their plan is  to kill my holy life and good kingdom values

In Such situation what is the Role of Reuben in my life???

Has Reuben been silenced in my life???

*5) Who is Ruben in my life*

The following things may take the place of Reuben in my  life.

Courage
Love
Reconciliation
Determination
Sacrifice, generosity
Attitude of Care and concern
Humility, sincerity, prayer, inner voice etc

So how active this Reuben in my life?

Do I allow, my Reuben to act on my behalf?

What can I do to make my Reuben still more active and creative??.

Tree planted beside the waters

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : Second Week: Thursday*

*GOSPEL - Lk 16:19-31*

*FIRST READING - Jer 17:5-10*

*Tree planted beside the waters*

*1) A beautiful imagery*

Tree and water has intimate connection. Because the survival of the tree depends on the availability of the Water

This is a beautiful imagery because, it gives a powerful message and it captured our attention at ones

This is a beautiful imagery because, the tree beside water is always fresh, green, full of life and ready bear fruit in due season

*2) Only tree needs Water*

When we reflect about this imagery it clearly shows us that, it is the tree which needs water for its survival all the time.

Tree can't survive without water. Its survival depends on the Water

That's why tree planted besides the river always has good life and it can produce good fruit.

*3) Water and Tree - God and My Life*

This imagery has direct link to our life

As we know that water is no essential for the survival of the tree, likewise we can't exist without God

Our existence depends on God and God is the one who fills the energy to our life

So it is very important to see the link between our life and God and also between Tree and Water

*4) A tree besides the Water*

The First reading of the day gives us some important points about the tree which is planted besides the water

It stretches out its roots to the stream:

It fears not the heat when it comes

Its leaves stay green;

In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit.

So there are many advantages for the tree which is planted near the water.

*5) Life planted in God*

A life planted in God always sees growth. Because it stretches out its root to the ocean of God's life

It has no fear of Satan and its temptations

The Holiness in such life is always ever green and very creative

Such life does not fear any challenges, problems and crisis in life.

*6) Where I have planted the tree of my life?*

Have I planted it in Gospel and on the word of God?

Have I planted it in the service, love, sacrifice, generosity, good will, forgiveness and other kingdom values?

Have I planted it in the wordly things like, money, wealth, position, power, arrogance, greed, selfishness, gossip, hatred, war, sensual pleasure etc

The growth of the tree depends on where it is planted.

Today how do I see the growth of my tree of life??

With what plans we approach Jesus?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : Second Week:

*GOSPEL -  Mt 20:17-28*

*FIRST READING - Jer 18:18-20*

*With what plans we approach Jesus?*

*1) The approach of the mother of the sons of Zebedee*

The Gospel shows us that this mother approached Jesus with a special plan

A plan not for her sake, but for the sake of her Sons.

In summary we can say that, the plan of this mother is to get some powerful positions, in the Kingdom of Jesus

It appears that, this mother had very selfish plan when she approached Jesus

*2) The Approach of diffent people in the Gospels*

Ten lepers approached Jesus with the intention of healing from the leprosy, and they were healed

Zacchaeus approached Jesus with the intention of knowing Him and to experience Him. As a result he got converted from his old life

Jairus approached Jesus with the intention of saving life. And life was restored

Woman with hemorrhage approached Jesus to get rid from her sickness, and she was healed

Sick people approached Jesus for healing and they were healed

Children approached Jesus for blessing, and they were blessed

*3) The approach of Judas*

We also come across the approach of Judas to Jesus

Judas approached Jesus in order to betray Him

He approached as a friend but with the intention of betraying Jesus

The approach of Judas was mixed with the greed for money. So he was ready to betray Jesus

*4) What about my approach?*

All of us approach Jesus at some time or the other.

Now the question is, why do I approach Jesus? Or what is the content of my approach to Jesus?

We can see our approach from two diffent perspectives.

*Positive perspective*

We approach Jesus to learn, how to pray, how to be humble and simple in life, to learn the various values like love, sacrifice, forgiveness, sharing, service, and so on

*Negative perspective*

*We approach Jesus with selfish motives*

To make us great in the world

To get power, position, wealth, money, influence, and other wordly things

Many approach Jesus with these selfish interests

*5) Lent and my approach*

Lent is a special time to approach Jesus for some special things

Let our approach be for the following things during this lent

To learn how to forgive others

To learn the value of service and generosity

To realise the power and importance of prayer

To practice the value simplicity, service, conversion of heart and mind etc

*So what is my ultimate approach when I go to meet Jesus?*

Come now, let us set things right: Am l ready?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : Second Week: Tuesday*

*GOSPEL - Mt 23:1-12*

*FIRST READING - Is 1:10, 16-20*

*Come now, let us set things right:  Am l ready??*

*1)  A gentle Call from God*

This particular call is coming from God, through prophet Isaiah

This particular call shows us that God is taking initiative to set things right

If God is calling us to set things right, it is very clear that there are certain things in our life which are not right.

So it is necessary to reflect about our own life to know about those things which needs to set right, to live a holy life

*2) God needs us to set things right*

The tone of the appeal reveals that, God needs our cooperation to set things right

Even though God is powerful to set things right, He does not use Force to set right things, rather He looks forward our cooperation to set things right

When we cooperate, the work of setting the things right becomes very easy and there will be lots of improvements in ones life

*3)  Lent is a time to set things right*

Since lent is a special time in our life, it inspires us to set things right in our life

Along with the inspiration, lent also provides various methods and ways through which we can set things right

Especially the aspect of Prayer, Fasting and almsgiving are the special ways through which one can set things right in ones life.

*4) It is a call for dialogue*

The above call from God, could be seen a the best from of dialogue.

God is ready to offer us a chance to dialogue with God, which helps a person to arrive at a best conclusion.

So it is a dialogue geared towards setting the things right, to live a new way of life, which will enable us to become close to God

*4) Setting things right is the Sign of Growth*

This particular gesture that is *setting things right* has a positive tone of growth.

Usually we set things right in order to solve some issues and to move forward in achieving our goals

By setting things right, no one loses the battle but lots of good things happen and a sign of growth always reflects

*5) Result of setting things right*

Both parties feel happy and joyful

Both feel that they have achieved something great in their lives

According to the Bible by setting things right all our sins will be washed away and we will be blessed by God

Bible also tells us that by setting things right, we will be able to eat good fruits from the land.

*6) Failure in setting things right*

The Bible also shows us the end result, if we fail to set things right in our life

Bible says *The Sword will consume us*

The sword of pride, sword of arrogance, the sword of self righteousness, the sword of revenge, the sword of hatred, the sword of foolishness, the sword of laziness, the sword of pleasure, the sword of wordly things, the sword of gossip and the sword of jealousy will consume us and we will be destroyed

*7) Which are the things need to set right in my life?*

Do I need to set right my thought pattern?

Do I need to set right my feelings and emotions?

Do I need to set right way of life?

Do I need to set right my family?

Do I need to set right my spiritual life?

Do I need to set right the values like  generosity, commitment, faithfulness, in my life?

Do I need to set right my creativity?

Do I need to set right my life itself?

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : Second Week: Monday*

*GOSPEL - Lk 6:36-38*

*FIRST READING - Dn 9:4b-10*

*Various Ways of becoming Merciful*

*“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.*

*1) Message of being Meriful to others*

The Gospel of the day speaks about being merciful to others

The Gospel also shows the best model to be followed by us and adopting the merciful ways in our life

That is why the Gospel says *Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful*

So Heavenly Father is the best example to all of us in adopting the meriful ways and to become the merciful people

*2) The various ways highlighted in the Gospel*

In adopting and practicing the merciful ways in our day today life, the Gospel gives us the following ways. They are as follows

*A) Not to Judge others*

The person who knows the complete truth can judge. Only God knows everything. So only God can judge every one

We being human beings, are limited. Our knowledge is limited. So as Jesus said, let's not judge one another with Half knowledge.

So by this we can really become like Merciful Father.

*B) Stop Condemning others*

When we condemn others, we definitely say that the person has done something wrong and he/she deserves punishment.

As human beings we can not punish another person, since we have no authority to condemn another person.

So by not condemning we become merciful like the Heavenly Father

*C) Forgiveness*

The Gospel also mentions about forgiveness, in the context of becoming merciful

Forgiveness is one of the main ways of showing mercy to others

By forgiveness alone we can become like Heavenly Father, who is merciful.

*D) Generosity*

The Gospel says *Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap.*

Generosity is the reflection of Mercy.

Only a person who is merciful like Heavenly Father, can be generous towards others.

So generosity is another way of becoming merciful like Heavenly Father

*E) Other Kingdom Values*

There are also other kingdom values which will help us to become like Merciful Father

Values like, humility, sacrifice, patience, simplicity, love, endurance, sharing, adjustment, care and concern for others.

These kingdom Values will help us to become like Heavenly Father.

*3)  Am I a merciful Person?*

Showing mercy is a divine Quality.

How much am I able to feel for others?

Am I a rude, or arrogant or cruel person?

Do I take much time to feel for others?

Am I a hard hearted person?

*4) Lent is a time to become like Heavenly Father, who is merciful?*

We are in Lent. Perfect time to reflect about Merciful Father and to practice this virtue in our life

All the above mentioned values will help us to practice this virute and to become like Heavenly Father

*If So, am I ready??*

God's Special Challenge to me : What is my Answer?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : Second Week: Sunday*

*GOSPEL - Lk 9:28b-36*

*FIRST READING - Gn 15:5-12, 17-18*

*SECOND READING Phil 3:17-4:1 or 3:20-4:1*

*God's Special Challenge to me : What is my Answer?*

*"Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can."*

*1) A Special Challenge to Abraham*

Abraham and Sarah was desiring a child. They also prayed a lot for the same

But they had no child and they were advanced in the age.

So the possibility of getting a child was becoming only a dream to Abraham and Sarah.

In this context God is challenging Abraham, by showing the Sky and asking Him to count the stars

*2) Impossibility of Counting the Stars*

Now it is not easy to count the stars, because of the enormity involved in it.

First of all we are not able to imagine the number, size, distance and shape of the stars. And how can we know about it

So far no one has succeeded in counting the stars and neither in the future anybody will succeed in doing so

So it is an impossible task for human beings

*3) The similar Challenge is found to all of us today*

The situation of Abraham comes to all of us in one way or the other

Abraham faced this challenge in the context of getting a child. For us it may take different forms. In such situations God may ask these similar questions to all of us

*A) Look at the breath, and count the number of breaths, you have taken so far*

All of us are breathing.

Is it possible to count the number of breaths so far we have taken from the moment we started our life??

*B) Look at your head and count the hair, if you can*

Once again we understand the impossibility of counting the hair in our heads.

Even though we think that  counting of hair is possible, once you start we know the difficulties or the impossibility involved in it

*C) Look at your heart and count the liters of blood it has purified so far*

Am I able to count the liters of blood, which the heart has purified so far. Once again we see the impossibility involved here.

*D) Look at your body and count the red and white blood sells if you can*

All of us have these red and white blood sells. Are we able to count it. Has any one succded in counting it exactly?

*E) Look at your Tongue and count the taste buds involved in it if you can?*

Are we able to find it its capacity or are we able  to count the taste buds in it?

*F) Look at your brain, and count the communion it has from the body if you can?*

Brain is connected to the every part of the body,

But no one can count the connections it has, to the various parts of the body

*G) Look at your body and count the mysterious aspects involved in body if you can*

Once again no one can count the things involved in the human body, mind and life

These few things within ourselves show us that there are things which make us impossible to count the things

*4) Through the Challenge a great message*

Abraham could not count the stars, nor he attempted for it.

Though this God communicated a powerful message to Abraham and Abraham believed completely in it.

What was dream it became a reality in Abrahams  life, because of his strong faith

*Today he is the Father of Faith*

*5) What about my life?*

Like Abraham we have number of things which are equal to the stars in heaven, possibile to count

These things are found in our life and with in our body

To the believer this is more than sufficient to believe and to change ones life

*Am I ready to believe like Abraham?*

Various ways to become perfect like Heavenly Father

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : First Week: Saturday*

*GOSPEL - Mt 5:43-48*

*FIRST READING - Dt 26:16-19*

*Various ways to become perfect  like Heavenly Father*

*1) We need the attitude like the Sun*

The Gospel mentions about the Sun

Sun has no partiality. It gives its light to all, to the good as well as to the bad

Sun never fails to shine. In the seasons it shines.

Sun always gives light and makes others happy. No one one becomes sad, because of the light

Every day when Sun comes up, it gives us a new hope, new vigour and new vision

Sun is the symbol of energy. It always gives energy and fills everything in energy

Sun is also a symbol of life. It gives life to the plants as well to the animals and human beings

So when we adopt the strategy of the Sun, one can achieve the perfection of the Heavenly Father

*2) Have a attitude that of Rain*

Once again rain does not have any partiality. It falls on the good as well as on the bad

Rain is also the Symbol of life. Without water, nothing can survive

Rain always produces something. Water has the capacity to produce, fruits or other things

Rain becomes one with the nature. It does not stay aloof.

So it is very important that we adopt the strategy of the rain in order to become perfect like the Heavenly Father

*3) Cultivate the attitude of Loving everyone*

It is very easy to love those who love us. But it is very difficult to love those who don't love us and much more difficult to love those who hate us and persecute us

So we need to follow the commandment of Jesus about loving ones enemies

The moment we fail to love those who hate us, we fail to become like the Sun and the Rain.

Unless we adopt the strategy of the Sun and Rain, we can't think of becoming perfect like the Heavenly Father

*4) Remember that I have been chosen peculiarly as His own*

This particular thought is very well reflected in the First reading of the day

The moment we remember that we have been particularly and peculiarly chosen by God, will help us to adopt the methodology of Sun and Rain

*5) Lent is a time to become perfect like the Heavenly Father*

Lent is a special time, given by God to become like perfect like the Heavenly Father

It is a best time to adopt the methodology of the Sun and Rain and to grow in the way of perfection

Therefore the Lenten season gives us three important ways to adopt the strategy of the Sun and the Rain. They are *Fasting, prayer and Almsgiving*

Fasting from all bad habits, Prayer to encounter God and the almsgiving to experience the love of the Neighbor.

Am I ready to follow the path of perfection to become perfect like the Heavenly Father??

Am I practicing the Spirituality of the Scribes and Pharisees?

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : First Week: Friday*

*GOSPEL - Mt 5:20-26*

*FIRST READING - Ez 18:21-28*

*Am I practicing the Spirituality of the Scribes and Pharisees?*

*1)  The Aspect of External Show*

This is one of the main things, which we see in the spirituality of the Scribes and Pharisees

Therefore they wanted a market place to show their spirituality

*Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts*- Luke 20:46

Do I follow this principle in my life?? Is this scribe and Pharisee found in my life?

*2) The attitude of finding fault with others*

This is also another important aspect we see in scribes and Pharisees.

They always find fault with others and think that they are always right

They also tried to find fault with Jesus. But they could not succeed.

*Some Pharisees were trying to find fault with Jesus. They watched him closely. They wanted to see if he would heal the man on the Sabbath day.* Mark  3:2.

Is this Pharisee and scribe found in me?

*3) The attitude of trapping some one*

This is also seen in the life of Pharisees and scribes

They tried many times to trap Jesus, because they considered Jesus as a threat to their existence

*Then the Pharisees left the place where Jesus was teaching. They made plans to trap Jesus with a question.* Mathew 22:15

How about this attitude in my life? Am I influenced by this scribe and Pharisee in my life?

*4) The Hypocrisy of scribes and Pharisees*

Their attitude is highly influenced by hypocrisy

Therefore Jesus calls they hypocrites, whitewashed tombs, blind men, fools etc

Hypocrisy is duplicity of life, where people try to show what they are not

*Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to*. Mathew 23:13

What is the level of hypocrisy in my life?

*5) We need to surpass this spirituality or righteousness*

Jesus clearly says that, unless we surpass the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, you will never entre the Kingdom of Heaven.

Am I ready to take efforts to move from this spirituality to reach another level of Spirituality?

*6) Lent is a special time to surpass the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees*

Lent is a special time for all of us to surpass the spirituality that of the Scribes and Pharisees and to practice the spirituality of the following things

Spirituality of forgiveness
Spirituality of reconciliation
Spirituality of Humility
Spirituality of respect for others
Spirituality of understanding
Spirituality of adjustment
Spirituality of love and concern

Am I ready to adopt this spirituality to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven?

Lent is a time to search within the treasures hidden in our life

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : First Week: Thursday*

*GOSPEL - Mt 7:7-12*

*FIRST READING - Est C:12, 14-16, 23-25*

*Lent is a time to search within the treasures hidden in our life*

*1) Seek and you will find*

The Gospel of the day has this beautiful caption *seek and you will find*

This caption makes us to think that we need to search. If so, where to search, and what to search may be the questions to ask

So let us think about the serach and the things which we need to search

*2) Lent is a time to search within oneself*

Since we are in the season of Lent and our primary purpose in life to change our life, it is better to have a search within the self

So we need to seek within the self to find out the various things hidden within the self

*3) God has given all the things  to us*

Since God has created us with His image and likeness, we possess all the things which are necessary to live a holy and blessed life

God has placed within our self all the things which are necessary to live a holy life

Some have find some of these valuable things, but others have missed these things.

So we need to have a seracg to find out these valuable things

*4) We need to seek the following things in our life*

Search for the forgiveness hidden in your life

Search for the quality of generosity

Search for the value of truth

Search for the value of sacrifice, love, commitment, and sharing

Search for the value of discipline, creativity, liveliness and cheerfulness

Search for the emotion of smile on the face

So we need to search these hidden values within our life in order to find the treasure in our life

*5) What are the hidden treasures which I have found in my life?*

As we reflect today's Gospel, we need to find out those things  which I have already found in my life

May love, forgiveness, humility, cheerfulness and sacrifice etc

But more than that what are the valuable heavenly things which I need to find within myself?

Lent is a time to find or seek these heavenly heavenly values in my life which are at times hidden within myself

*Are you ready to seek or search??*

Lent is a time to rise from ones throne, to laid aside ones robe and to put on sackcloth and to sit in Ashes

Gospel Thoughts*

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : First Week: Wednesday*

*GOSPEL - Lk 11:29-32*

*FIRST READING - Jon 3:1-10*

*Lent is a time to rise from ones throne, to laid aside ones robe and to put on sackcloth and to sit in Ashes*

*1) The City of Nineveh and the King of Nineveh*

God sent a strong message to the city of Nineveh through prophet Jonah.

God said *“Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed,”*

Hearing this people of Nineveh, believed in God and proclaimed a fast which would be observed by all

When the news came to the King of Nineveh the King *rose from his throne, laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in the ashes.*

As a result all of them were able to change their life and God also changed His mind and didn't punish the people of Nineveh.

*2) Symbolic meaning of Rising from the Throne*

These words are very much applicable to all of us.

The king rose from his throne. We should also rise from our throne in order to change our life

We need to rise from the throne of anger

We need to rise from the throne of jealousy

We need to rise from the throne of gossip

We need to rise from the throne of lack of trust

We need to rise from the throne of revenge

We need to rise from the throne of arrogance

Unless we rise from these thrones we are unable to change our life

*3) The Symbolic meaning of laying aside ones robe*

Lent is a time to laying aside ones robe. The king of Nineveh did it. We are called upon to do the same during this Lenten time

We need to lay aside the robe of the desire for wordly things

We need to lay aside the robe of selfishness

We need to lay aside the robe of hypocrisy

We need to lay aside the robe of sensual pleasure

We need to lay aside the robe of laziness

We need to lay aside the robe of comfortable life

We need to lay aside the robe of the desire for power, money, wealth, name and fame

Unless we lay aside these robes we can't experience God in our life

*4) The symbolic meaning of covering oneself with sack clothes and sitting in the Ashes*

In the Bibke we see Sackcloth and ashes were used as an outward sign of mourning, repentance.

So we need to wear the sackcloth of mourning and repentance

So lent is a time to wear sackcloth and to sit in the ashes to repent for our jealousy, anger, revengeful attitudes, arrogance, laziness, desire for wordly things

Wear the sackcloth of humility, simplicity, love, sacrifice, service, truthfulness, trust, forgiveness inoder to change ones life

*5) My Life in the Lent*

Am I ready to rise from the throne  my own comfortable zone?

Am I ready to lay aside the robe of wordly things and wordly standards?

Am I ready to put on the sackcloths of the heavenly things?

Am I ready to sit in the Ashes of the values of the Kingdom of God?

The power of the Rain and the Power of the Word of God

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : First Week: Tuesday*

*GOSPEL - Mt 6:7-15*

*FIRST READING - Is 55:10-11*

*The power of the Rain and the Power of the Word of God*

*1) The Concept of Rain*

The first reading of the day, refers to the concept of rain, in connection with the Word of God

We are familiar with rain and we do know what happens when the rain starts. The though prophet Isaiah, God shows such will be the effect and result of the Word of God

*2) The speciality and the Power of the Rain/Water*

There are some special features about rain

*A) Rain comes on a regular basis*

As we know there are seasons. So accordingly there is a rainy season and rain comes in rainy season. There is no doubt about it

*B) Rain becomes one with the Earth*

The rain which falls from above, becomes one with the mud or with the earth.

In other words rain does not remain separate from the earth

*C) Rain transforms the Earth*

When rain falls we can clearly see the changes which appear on the earth.

There is a totally change of mood, when the rainy season starts. It means rain has the power to change

*D) Rain creates life*

The rain which falls to the ground, brings a life. We can see the fresh grass everywhere and there appears full life in everything

*E) Rain is always active*

Rain is never passive, rather it is always active. Because it creates something new in everything and everywhere

*F) Rain takes any Form*

Wherever rain falls, it adopts to the form to which it falls

So rain or water can adopt or adjust into any form.

*G) Rain or Water is transparent*

We can see clearly in the water. There is nothing which can be hid in the water

Rain or water is always transparent, there is no hypocrisy in water

*H) Rain water is Pure*

Scientifically it is proved that rain water is very pure and of a good quality

Purity of the rain water we need to admire, something good and beautiful.

All these above qualities or speacil features of the Rain or water make us clear that rain or water is very powerful and it definitely produces some life and fruit in everything

*3) Word of God is like Rain Water*

All the above said qualities of the rain are very much applicable to the Word of God

From this we can conclude that, Word of God is very powerful, creative, effective, pure, becomes one with us and finally produces the fruit

So Word of God is also very powerful.

*4) Falling of the rain can be prevented in some places*

In some places the rain does not fall. For example when there is roof, when there some hurdle which prevents the falling of the rain in some places

In such cases, rain does not fall into that place and there appears no results

Same logic is also applied to the Word of God. At times the Word of God is also prevented from falling into our life and into our heart. In such cases no effect will be achieved.

*5) The falling of rain, Word of God and my life*

No one can control the falling of the rain. Its Gods miracle

No one can control God's Word, which fall from the mouth of God. It's also a miracle

Am I preventing the Word of God, falling into my heart, my mind, and into my being??

Has the Word of God creating any new life in me?

How do you see the power of God, by analysing the concept of rain??

Depart From me You accursed

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : First Week: Monday*

*GOSPEL - Mt 25:31-46*

*FIRST READING - Lv 19:1-2, 11-18*

*Depart From me You accursed*

*1) Depart and accursed are strong words*

In today's Gospel we have these words.

These are rather very strong words, at times very scary words, which create some kind of fear and anxiety in our life

We hardly find such words in the Gospel, but there are few times where these words are referred. So we need to note these words.

*2) Come to me all who are weary and burdened*

Jesus is the one who always called people to Himself and never chased away people at any time

There is only one occasion, where Jesus chases people from the temple when they were doing the business in the temple

Jesus also chased the demons when people brought to him those who were possessed by the devil

Other than these we find very strong words in today's Gospel. They are *Depart and accursed*

*3) Context of these Words*

First of all we need to realise that all of us created in the image and likeness God

Therefore, when some one fails to see this God's image in others we fail to recognise, to see God in others

People those who appear in the last part of the parable, had failed to recognise the image of God, in the others, especially in the least and the lost ones.

In such a situation the parable makes use of these above words, *Depart and accursed*

*4) Greatest blunder of our life*

The whole judgment of our life depends on how much we were able to reach out others

The moment we fail to reach out others, we fail to reach out to God.

When we fail to reach out to God, we are far away from God.

So it is not God who is us to depart, but we ourselves make God to depart from us.

A life which is not in touch with the Divine is equal to a life which is accursed

So it is our basic attitude with others makes us to *depart and to be accursed*

*5) God can be experienced only through others*

When the *other* is taken away from our life, the way towards God is closed

Here the other represents the following

The Hungry
The thirsty
The stranger
Naked
And those who in prision

These are the people who will help us to experience God in our life

Going away from these people means departing from God, which results in a curse

*6) What is the role of others in my Life?*

*Other* is a possibility of experiencing God?

Or have I turned this other as a block in experiencing God?

Will I be blessed or will I be departed from the Lord?

*Think about it*

The Power of the Holy Spirit in facing the Temptations of the Devil

Gospel Thoughts

*Lenten Season : C Cycle : First Week: Sunday*

*GOSPEL - Lk 4:1-13*

*FIRST READING - Dt 26:4-10*

*SECOND READING - Rom 10:8-13*

*The Power of the Holy Spirit in facing the Temptations of the Devil*

*1)Jesus was Full of Holy Spirit*

As Jesus was receiving the Baptism in the River Jordan, the Holy Spirit descend upon Jesus in the form of Dove and dwelt in Him

Because of the Power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus was filled with special strength to face any challenges

Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus went to the Desert to be tempted by the devil.

So the devil tempted Jesus with various temptations to trap Him in some or the other ways

*2) The Devil tempts Jesus*

When the devil came to Jesus it had a definite plan to tempt Jesus. In three ways it tried to tempt Jesus

*First Temptation* The temptation of the food

One of the strong temptations of Human nature, which includes the temptation of taste, drinks, bodily desires and sensual pleasures

So this is one if the easiest ways to tempt human beings

*Second Temptation* The temptation of the desire for wordly things and its glory

This is also one of the strong temptations of human nature.

All desire money, power, glory, wordly things and wealth

Easiest way to tempt human beings

*Third temptation* The temptation to equate oneself with God.

Temptation to dictate terms to God, when God has to do something or not

So all these three powerful temptations were brought to Jesus by the devil

*3) Jesus Challenges all the temptations of the Devil*

All these three powerful temptations were challenged by Jesus in a most convincing way

At no point of time, Jesus even had a slightest, leaning towards the temptations of the devil

This is because Jesus clearly knew the worth of wordly things and also the greatness of heavenly things

Moreover Jesus was fully with the power of the Holy Spirit

*4) Jesus and the Power of the Holy Spirit*

This is one of the important point to note that Jesus was fully with the Holy Spirit.

When devil tempted Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit within Himself not only worked, but also challenged the temptations of Devil

So finally with the same Spirit Jesus was able to challenge the devil, which finally left with out any success.

*5) We are in possession of the Holy Spirit*

The same Holy Spirit which decended on Jesus also decends on us on the day of Baptism.

Such a Holy Spirit we have received who can challenge any temptations of the devil in our life

But are we allowing the Holy Spirit to act uopn us when we are tempted?

Do we seek the guidance or the Strength of the Holy Spirit when we are tempted?

*6) All of us are tempted*

We all of us are tempted like Jesus

These above three temptations include the entire world of temptations which is not very easy to face

So it is not very important whether we are tempted or not, but the question is, *What do we do after temptationn?*

*7) Am I able to over come temptations?*

Jesus overcame all the temptations. What about me?

What are the special steps which I can take to challenge the temptations?

Prayer and fasting were the best methods used by Jesus. Am I ready to use these methods?

What else can I do to face the temptations of the Devil?

*Think about it*
