Start New Year 2023 with some kind of Amazement

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season : 1st January 2023*

*Feast : Mary Mother of God*

*Gospel : Lk 2:16-21*

*First Reading : Nm 6:22-27*

*SECOND READING - Gal 4:4-7*

*Start New Year 2023 with some kind of Amazement*

*1) Feeling of Amazement*

The Gospel of the day speaks about amazement

Amazement is a feeling of great surprise or wonder

The people of Bethlehem were amazed at what was said by the Shepherds

*2) Amazement is a good feeling*

Since this feeling speaks about wonder and surprise, it gives a direction to our life

Wonder and the feeling of surprise, makes us to think, makes us to reflect and makes us happy

A person who does not have the sense of Wonder or surprise, can't be called as human being

*3) Shepherds wondered at Baby Jesus*

Shephareds who saw Jesus were totally filled with amazement and they wonderd at baby Jesus

If there was no wonder then there is nothing special

Since there was something new, shepherds wondered at Jesus

*4) Feeling of Wonder makes them to act*

Feeling of Wonder does not allow oneself to remain silent

The feeling of Wonder, to be active, to be creative, to be reflective and to be effective in our lives

*5) Mary wondered at God's plan*

It was a surprise for Mary to know the plan of God and to say yes to the Lord

Magnificat is nothing but the song of praise, which was the result of amazement

Amazement also makes a person to face new challenges and to face the situations

*6) Amazement and 2023*

Start new year with some kind of surprise, wonder and amazement

This feeling may help u to change ones life, to have new directions, and to become more active and creative in ones life

Amazement is a kind of energy which brightens the life and the meaning of our life

Christ is the True Light who Enlightens every one

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season : 31st December*

*Gospel : Jn 1:1-18*

*First Reading : 1 Jn 2:18-21*

*Christ is the True Light who Enlightens every one*

*1) Christ is the True Light*

The Gospel of the day affirms that Jesus is the true light who enlightens everyone

Light is always something which attracts others

Light has the power to change the situations, emotions and feelings

Light always has a positive tone and never has a negative tone

*2) Christ is the True light*

Since Christ is the true light, the life of Jesus is the reflection of the light itself

So Light means Jesus and Jesus means light. Therefore Jesus says, *I am the true light*

So we are called upon to follow this light and make our life as bright as possible

*3) A light which enlightens everyone's light*

There is no doubt that light always creates more light and it brightens the whole area

So it is very important to note that the Light of Jesus brightens everyones life and makes it beautiful and meaningful

*4) The Light of Christ*

The Gospel is not only speaking of the physical light, but it speaks also the other forms of light.

The light of forgiveness
The light of love
The light if sacrifice
The light if humility
The light of simplicity
The light of service
The light of happiness
The light of consolation
The light of generosity
The light of truth
The light of justice
The light of hardwork

So Jesus' light enlightens all these qualities in our life which makes our life beautiful

*5) Has Jesus' light enlightened my light?*

Have a allowed the light of my life to be enlightened by Jesus' light?

Has the light of Christ, which I received in Baptism still burns or has gone off?

Do I desire light or darkness?

Is my life controlled by light or darkness? The darkness of pride, arrogance, anger, jealousy, selfishness, greed etc?

Why Joseph and Mary's family is Holy?

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season : 30th December*

*Feast of the Holy Family*

*Gospel : Mt 2:13-15, 19-23*

*First Reading : Sir 3:2-7, 12-14*

*SECOND READING - Col 3:12-21 or 3:12-17*

*Why Joseph and Mary's family is Holy?*

*1) Holy Family*

The above caption is very familiar to us.

When some one makes a reference to Holy Family, we immediately identity this family with the family of Joseph, Mary and Joseph

In fact their family was really and Holy family.

We can analyse the different things to explain why this family is called as Holy Family

*2) What makes the Nazareth Family a Holy Family?*

The unity between them

The faithfulness in good times and in bad times

Complete trust in the plan of God

The aspect of risking taking to fulfill the plan of God

The sacrifice, and the courage which they had to face the crowd in all situations

Ready to change ones plan for the sake of the other and according to the plan of God

*3) Is my family Holy?*

When we reflect about the Holy family of Nazareth, what about my family?

Is my family Holy or not?

How do others see my family?

What is the foundation of my family?

*4) Things which can help our family to become Holy*

Prayers
Forgiveness
Exercise of Freedom
Mutual support
Remaining faithful to each other
Generosity
A cordial and a warm welcome to our family
Service oriented life

My own eyes have seen the Salvation

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season : 29th December*

*Gospel : Lk 2:22-35*

*First Reading : 1 Jn 2:3-11*

*My own eyes have seen the Salvation*

*1) The Words of Simeon*

These above meaningful words come from a devout and a Holy person called Simeon

When He took the Child Jesus, into His arms, he proclaimed this great fact

By seeing Jesus he saw the real salvation, in his eyes. Something very significant and meaningful

*2) Seeing Jesus means experiencing the Salvation*

By holding and seeing Jesus into his arms, Simeon, experienced the salvation

So when a person sees Jesus he/she is able to see the salvation

So one must strive to see Jesus and to experience him in life

*3) Various ways through which one can see Jesus*

In the word of God
In the celebration of the sacraments
The Eucharistic celebration
The sacrament of reconciliation
The Sacramental adoration
Through generosity, humility, sacrifice, justice, smile, hardwork

Through these above things one can see Jesus, one can experience Jesus and,  finally can see the salvation

Am I ready to see God's salvation in my own eye@s??

Rise, Take the child and His mother

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season : 28th December*

*Gospel : Mt 2:13-18*

*First Reading : 1 Jn 1:5—2:2*

*Feast of the Holy Innocents : Martyrs*

*Rise, Take the child and His mother*

*1) Christians are called to rise and not to sleep*

In today's Gospel, there is a call to rise. The context is Joseph was sleeping and he was asked to rise and get into action for saving the Child

Rising is an action which is very important for a person to do something

Its an action which shows that some one is ready for some work

Its an action which shows a new beginning towards something

*2) The Child and the Mother*

In the context it refers to Baby Jesus and Mary

Since Herod was trying to kill them, Joseph was asked to save them by taking them to Egypt

*3) The Child and Mother in our Life*

The same Jesus and Mary have come into our life during the time of Christmas

Now it is our duty to rise immediately from our slumber to take the child and the Mother

*4) Why we have to take the Child and Mother?*

It is not because the child and mother is in danger, but we are in danger

We have to rise and take the child and mother, so that they remain with us and we are safe

We have to rise and take the child and mother for our safety

So it is very important that we need to take care of the Child and Mother

*5) Am I ready to rise and take care of the child and Mother?*

We are immersed in many things

At times we find no time to rise from our daily routine to take care of the Child and Mother

Unless we rise and take care of the Child and mother, we have no future.

As long as the Child and Mother is with us, we have no fear of anything

If so, am I ready to rise and take care of the child and mother??

Why John calls Himself as the Beloved disciple of Jesus?

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season : 27th December*

*Feast of St John the Evangelist*

*Gospel : Jn 20:1a and 2-8*

*First Reading : 1 Jn 1:1-4*

*Why John calls Himself as the Beloved disciple of Jesus*

*1) It is John who calls*

First of all this particular title *Beloved disciple of Jesus* comes from John himself

It is John who calls himself as the beloved disciple of Jesus

Now the question is, why he is calling himself as the beloved disciple of Jesus?

*2) Various possible Reasons*

Through this title *beloved* John wants higliht God's love and how it has transformed his life, rather than his own personality or identity

Through this title *Beloved* John reminds the readers the enormous love they too, experience in our life

Through this title *beloved* John is urging all of us that every one has the opportunity to become the beloved disciples of Jesus

So its more of highlighting God's love rather than Human love

*3) John Himself wanted to make Himself Anonymous*

By calling Himself as the beloved disciple of Jesus, John might have had the intention of hiding his real identity

Since it gives an opportunity to think who would be the real person, any one can try to fit into this framework

So all have the opportunity to become the beloved disciple of Jesus

*4) The message of Love*

Ultimately the title *Beloved* highlights the Love of Jesus

The main theme of the Gospels and the life of Jesus is nothing but Love

This love has to be experienced concretely in our life by becoming the beloved disciples of Jesus

There is nothing other than love in the entire life of Jesus and in the Gospels.

So every one is called to become the beloved disciples of Jesus

*5) One of the best Titles*

The title *beloved* is one of the best titles one can have in ones life

God loves all of us in a equal way. Jesus is the human form of God who shows this love to all of us

Those who accept Jesus they experience the deeper love of Jesus and they become the beloved disciples of Jesus

*6) Various ways of becoming beloved of Jesus*

Like John one should follow Jesus

Like John one should spread the Gospel of Love everywhere

Like John one should be present at the foot of the cross with Mother Mary

Like John one should not run away from Jesus where there are crisis and challenges

Like John one should take care of the others (Mary)

Am I ready for these works of Love?

We are Called upon to bear witness before others

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season : 26th December*

*St Stephan : First Martyr of the Church*

*Gospel : Mt 10:17-22*

*First Reading : Acts 6:8-10; 7:54-59*

*We are Called upon to bear witness before others*

*1) Challenges as an opportunity to bear witness to Christ*

The Gospel of the day speaks about the various persecutions, which one has to face, because he/She is a follower of Christ, and for the sake of Jesus' name

These persecutions and challenges are to be received as an opportunity to bear witness to Christ and to show the values of Christ

Christ and His values can be communicated only by facing challenges and enduring the persecutions for the sake of Jesus' name

*2) St Stephen - the First Martyr*

The life of St Stephen is a best example to show, how one can bear witness to Christ

He was a genuine follower of Christ, which led him to face the martyrdom, by scarifying his life

The bold witness by St Stephen shows that it is God who gives the strength to endure such a situation and to show the values of Christ to the rest of the World

*3) Various ways through one can bear witness to Christ*

*Service* is the best way to bear witness to Christ

*Forgiveness* is another powerful weapon

*Humility* is the another face of Jesus

Enduring all the suffering for the sake of Jesus and His name

Simplicity of life, sincerity, being truthful to oneself and others, upholding the justice, compassionate heart, concern towards poor, are some of the powerful ways through which one can bear witness to Christ

*4) Need to put on Christ*

We are in the season of Christmas.

Jesus has born into this world and we believe that the same Jesus has born in our hearts and families

So we need to put on Christ in our life, which will help us to bear witness to Christ

*5) Am I ready to bear witness to Christ*

If Yes, I need to face all the challenges and persecutions

Christmas means becoming Human person

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season : 25th December*

*Gospel : Jn 1:1-14*

*First Reading : Is 52:7-10*

*SECOND READING - Heb 1:1-6*

*Christmas means becoming Human person*

*1) God became Human Being*

Christmas is nothing but, God becoming human being

In this process of becoming human being, Jesus left His heavenly Glory and became one with the human being

So, all of us are called to become human being first, than anything else in life

*2) Becoming Human being is a great Achievement*

All of us are born as human beings. But the question is have I become human being?

Its not enough to take birth as human being, but one should become a human being

*3) How to become Human beings?*

The life of Jesus will tell us, how to become human beings?

A person who is able to understand the difficulties, problems, failures and crisis of others is a genuine human being

A person who is able to make little sacrifice for others sake, without any expectations, is a real human being

A person who is able to humble oneself, able to forgive others, able to smile, able to show mercy to others is a real human being

A person who is a able to feel, able to cry, able to speak good about others is a human person

*4) Jesus became man to make us Human beings*

The purpose of Jesus' is first all to make us human beings

Am I a human being in a sincere way?

What makes me human being??

Will Jesus birth, help me to become a genuine human being?

*Happy and Joyful  Christmas*

The need of the Holy Spirit to Praise God

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 4th Week : Saturday*

*Gospel : Lk 1:67-79*

*First Reading : 2 Sm 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16*

*The need of the Holy Spirit to Praise God*

*1) Zachariah was filled with the Holy Spirit*

The Gospel of the day begins with this fact

Zachariah was full of Holy Spirit. So he began to praise God

The canticle of Zachariah is nothing but praising God, for his mighty deeds

This happens only when Zachariah was full of Holy Spirit

*2) The Highlights of His praise*

God has set his people free from slavery of sin and bondage

He has raised a mighty saviour to deliver his people from the bondage of Sin

He has saved His people from the enemies and from the hands all who hate them

God has remembered His Holy covenant and shown mercy to His people

God has made His people to worship Him without any fear

He has forgiven all our sins and delivered us from the darkness of sin and the shadow of death

*3) The Power of the Holy Spirit*

H.S. made Zachariah to praise God

H.S. motivated St Stephen to forgive His enemies and to sacrifice His life

H.S. changed the Apostles from cowards to strong men of faith

H.S. helped the Apostles to speak in tongues

H.S. help many believers  to perform great miracles

*4) Holy Spirit in my Life*

We receive Holy Spirit at the time of Baptism

The sacrament of Confirmation is specifically helps us to receive the Holy Spirit

All the sacrament really help us to receive the Holy Spirit

*5) My experience of the Holy Spirit*

Do I feel the power of the Holy Spirit?

If I am able to praise God, in all circumstances, I am filled with Holy Spirit

If I am able to forgive, love, share, sacrifice, and humble my self the Holy Spirit is work in me

If I am able to face all the challenges of my life, then I am full of Holy Spirit

What things are we discussing these days?

GOSPEL THOUGHTS*

*Advent Season : 4th Week : Friday*

*Gospel : Lk 1:57-66*

*First Reading : Mal 3:1-4, 23-24*

*What things are we discussing these days?*

*1) The Birth of John*

The Gospel of the day speaks about the birth of John

When he was born, lots of things were spoken about him

So, some discussed about his name and other things

Others discussed about his future. *"What, then, will this child be?"*

So, in the Gospel, we see today the birth of John and his mission  becomes very important. And all were discussing about the same matter, everywhere

*2)The Birth of Jesus*

We are in the last phase of Advent. We will be celebrating Christmas, within few days

So in this context, what are my thoughts?

Am I discussing about his birth to know more about him?

Am I discussing about the miraculous birth of Jesus?

Am I discussing about the spiritual preparation in the context of the birth of Jesus

Am I discussing about the holy family?

Am I discussing about the Jesus' birth in the manger?

Am I discussing about the meaningful liturgy on Christmas mass?

Am I discussing about the mission of Messiah?

*3) My discussions*

What are we discussing in the context of Jesus' birth?

Am I discussing reconciliation or hatred?

Am I discussing about the forgiveness or hatred

Am I discussing about finding fault with others or something which is useful for my future life?

Am I discussing anout the humility of Jesus?

What are my discussions??

The importance of spending Quality time with family members and relatives

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 4th Week : Thursday*

*Gospel : Lk 1:46-56*

*First Reading : 1 Sam 1:24-28*

*The importance of spending Quality time with family members and relatives*

*1) Mary remained for three months*

Mother Mary who had gone to meet Elizabeth, remained with her for three months

Spending three months with Elizabeth was very important for Mary.

Since both of them were pregnant, it was a good time to be together to share the joys and sorrows of their lives

*2) The duration tjree months*

Three months quite a long time

One who wishes to spend three months with others he/she can't can not be treated as guests at all times

The person has to live a normal life adopting oneself to all the situations of the family

In fact one who spends three months with another, need to make lots of adjustments and learn lots of new things

*3) Impact on the relationship*

Three months makes a person to know the other in a better way.

This has great impact on the relationship. If everything goes on well then the relationship becomes strong

*4) Spending Quality time is very important*

We can learn from Mary the following things about the stay for three months

Ready to sacrifice ones time for the other
The relationship becomes strong
A call to reflect about the time which we spend with our own people
Willingness to adjust oneself to the new situation
Time to learn lots of new things

*5) My life and busy schedule*

Today all are busy. No one has the time spend with others

In the busy schedule, spending, quality time with family members relatives, and friends has become a great challenge to every one.

Nothing can substitute the real human relations with anything else

Mary is a great model for us to think about spending quality time with our dear and near ones.

The Gospel of the day speaks about the coming of Mary to Elizabeth

Elizabeth celebrated the coming of Mary, which became a moment of divine experience for Elizabeth

*3) The specialty of the coming of Mary*

Along with Mary Jesus also came with Her

The coming of Mary was an occasion for the divine experience

The coming of Mary was an occasion for the Elizabeth and John to be filled with the Holy Spirit

The coining of Mary was an occasion to speak about God's miracles marvellous deeds

The coming of Mary was an occasion for us to see the greatness of Mary in terms of service, complete trust in God and to deepen our relationship with God and others

*4) The coming of Mary in the History*

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: 4th Week : Tuesday*

*Gospel : Lk 1:26-38*

*First Reading : Is 7:10-14*

*We are called upon to play the Role of Angel Gabriel*

He is one among Seven angels who Stand before God

He is also called the *angel of Annunciation* because he is the one who communicated the important message to Mary

*2) The Messenger of God*

Gabriel is known for communicating the important messages from God to human beings

The Good news of Jesus' birth was brought by Angel Gabriel to Mary

Communicating a very important message to some one is a great and important task

The Importance of Having the Spirit and Power of Great People

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 4th Week : Monday*

*Gospel : Lk 1:5-25*

*First Reading : Jgs 13:2-7, 24-25a*

*The Importance of Having the Spirit and Power of Great People*

*1) The Power and Spirit of Elijah*

Elijah was the great prophet. The power of the Lord was with Him

He performed great miracles.

He Challenged the prophets of Baal and Showed the real power of the Lord of Israel

He condemned evil and injustice

Finally we was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. This shows He had no end, no death

*2) John had the power and Spirit of Elijah*

The Gospel says that John had the power and spirit of Elijah

It proved in his life. He was courageous, condemned evil, falsehood, and immorality

He had the courage to condemn even the king for his immoral behavior

He converted many people towards God, and helped them to have a real conversion of the heart and mind

*3) The power and authority of Jesus*

As the followers of Jesus we are supposed to have the power and authority Jesus in our life

Unless we have this power and authority, no one can perform any work or service for the glory of the Lord

*4) The power and authority of Jesus*

Jesus' power and Authority rests on following things

Forgiveness
Humility
Sacrifice
Love
Service
Sharing
Prayer
Sincerity
Simplicity

One who is able to practice these Gospel values, certainly the power and Spirit of Jesus moves the person

*5) What power and Spirit I have?*

All of us have some or the authority and influence of Spirit in us

Which is moving me? Worldly things or the Gospel Values?

Am I filled with the Spirit and authority of money, power, position, influence, greed, gossip, envy, hatred, falsehood and pleasure?

Am I filled with the spirit and power of Gospel values??

Emmanuel, which means “God is with us

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 4th Week : Sunday*

*Gospel : Mt 1:18-24*

*First Reading : Is 7:10-14*

*SECOND READING Rom 1:1-7*

*Emmanuel, which means “God is with us*

*1) We are preparing for Emmanuel*

Emmanuel means - God is with us. In fact we are preparing for this great even to happen in our lives

This is one of the greatest events in our life. When God is with us, we need nothing in our lives

*2) One need to work for Emmanuel to happen*

The reality of Immanuel does not happen automatically. One need to work for it. In the Gospel of the day, we get an idea about those who worked for Immanuel to Happen

*Mary* Mary is the first person who offered her entire life for the Immanuel to become a reality

Since she offered herself, Immanuel became a reality

*Joseph* He humbled himself before God and accepted the will of the Father.

Joseph was ready to change his plans for the sake of Immanuel to become a reality

*Angel Gabriel* Another important figure in the context of Immanuel becoming a reality

He brought the Good news and communicated to her and convinced her about the plan of God

Angels intervention was an important occasion for Mary to understand the importance of Gods plan and to accept it

*3) Hardwork is necessary*

When we see the above reality, it is clear that, only sincere work and cooperating with Gods work will help us to make Immanuel as reality in our life

Mary, Joseph  and Angel Gabriel, worked together with the inspiration of God, to carry out the mission of the Lord.

Such a great hard work yielded the  fruit, by making in Immanuel as a reality

*4) Immanuel in my Life*

How do I understand the concept of Immanuel?

Who is Immanuel for me?

How Immanuel can become a reality in my life?

How this advent is helping me to make Immanuel a reality in my life?

Is my life a suitable place to become a Immanuel a great reality?

God is always with us. But am I with God??

The importance of the roots of our Family

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 3rd Week : Saturday*

*Gospel : Mt 1:1-17*

*First Reading :Gen 49:2, 8-10*

*The importance of the roots of our Family*

*1) The Genealogy of Jesus*

The Gospel of the day presents before us the genealogy of Jesus

It is nothing but the family History or Family tree of Jesus

It helps us to see who are directly linked to the family of Jesus

*2) Importance of Knowing the Genealogy*

This genealogy of Jesus also calls us to know the importance of persons who are involved in the family tree

By knowing our origins, we get the picture of our own family

Knowing our family well we come to know the actual situation of our life. This also helps us to bring some changes in our life

*3) Genealogy shows the roots of our family*

Some people forget their past and think they are not the part of the their family

Some people don't appreciate their family history. So they don't want to be the part of their past history

*4) My genealogy*

Like Jesus' genealogy, there is a genealogy to our life

How much do I know about the genealogy of my family?/

What are the benefits of knowing the genealogy of my own family?

*5) Genealogy has all types of People*

There are all kinds of people in genealogy.

There are men and women,

There are holy and wicked people in genealogy

There are also great and sinners were

So no one is excluded and God welcomes all to his kingdom

Where will be my name in the genealogy?

Does my Works testify that I am a follower of Christ?

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 3rd Week : Friday*

*Gospel : Jn 5:33-36*

*First Reading : Is 56:1-3a, 6-8*

*Does my Works testify that I am a follower of Christ?*

*1)  John's Work testified that He is for Truth*

John was sent by God, to prepare the way of the Lord

He was ready even to sacrifice his life to prepare the way of the Lord.

He always upheld truth and condemned evil and falsehood. That is why, he was martyred by Herod

In today's Gospel Jesus says that *John testified to the Truth*

His life witness shows that he lived for truth and died for truth

*2) Jesus' Work testified that He was sent by the Father*

Jesus came to this world to save us. He was sent by the Father to redeem the world

Many times Jesus proclaimed that he was sent by the Father and His mission was to do the will of Heavenly Father

The Preaching, teaching, and His sacrifice on the Calvary shows that He was sent by the Father to redeem the World

*3) Saints mission testified that they were followers of Jesus*

Any saint if we take their life and mission shows that they are genuine followers of Jesus

Mother Theresa's life and mission shows that she was a genuine follower of Jesus

Fr Stan Swamy's mission, courage and dedication shows that he was a ardent follower of Jesus

Sr Rani Maria, and many others who suffer for the sake of Jesus shows that they are genuine followers of Jesus

*4) My Works and Jesus*

What about my life? My life is engaged in various activities

Does those activities depict that I am genuine follower of Christ?

What idea they give about my life? Is it about wordly idea or about heavenly idea?

How do others see me because of my activity filled life?

What can I do to show to the world outside, that I am a genuine follower of Christ

The greatness of John the Baptist

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 3rd Week : Thursday*

*Gospel : Lk 7:24-30*

*First Reading : Is 54:1-10*

*The greatness of John the Baptist*

*1) Great among all men*

The Gospel says that *I tell you, among those born of women, no one is greater than John*

This particular expression of Jesus shows the greatness of John the Baptist

*2) Various reasons for his greatness*

He was sent by God for a special mission

He prepared the way for the Lord

Lived a very rigours life, waiting for the Lord

He was morally upright man

Had the moral courage to condemn evil and bad things

He Baptised the people with Water

Was ready to sacrifice his life

Upheld the truth, condemned the evil

He showed the Lamb of God to others

*3) A Call to live like John the Baptist*

All of us are called to live like John the Baptist

Therefore Jesus says *yet the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.*

Greatness belongs to everyone. Anyone can take this path and can become greater than John

So when we admire John, it is a call to all of us to, become like John and even greater than John by living our life according to the standards of the Gospel

*4) Advent Season*

It is a season to venture something new in our life

John the Baptist, is a great model to all of us to achieve something new in our life

Am I ready for a new venture??

We are the eyes and ears of Jesus

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 3rd Week : Wednesday*

*Gospel : Lk 7:18b-23*

*First Reading : Is 45:6c-8, 18, 21c-25*

*We are the eyes and ears of Jesus*

*1) What is our identity as Christians?*

To this question, we find a beautiful answer in today's Gospel reading

As Jesus says, *Go and tell John what you have seen and heard*

Same Jesus is telling us the same thing, Go out into the world and proclaim to the word what you have heard and seen

*2) We are Jesus' eyes and ears*

Today Jesus needs a eye which can see the things as Jesus sees

Today Jesus needs a ear, which can hear as Jesus would hear

So Jesus has chosen you and me to become His eyes and ears

*3) Need to put on Christ into our life*

On the day of Baptism, white cloth was given to us and asked us to become like Christ

One of the ways of becoming like him would be put on the ears and eyes of Jesus.

So that we may be able to see Jesus and hear like Jesus

*4) Eyes and ears will help us to remain faithful to Jesus' Teaching*

When we proclaim what we have seen and heard from Jesus, it becomes genuine teaching

One can't cheat himself to what one has seen and heard. Such first hand knowledge is very important

Apart from this eyes and ears are the direct source of knowledge. They help us to get accurate knowledge about  our life and Lord's teaching

*5) Where to see and Hear?*

Today Jesus is really present in the Bible, Eucharist, celebration of the sacraments, in the family and in others.

We need to see Jesus in these holy things and in holy people

Such an seeing,  hearing to Jesus will help us proclaimed Jesus to the other

Am I making sufficient efforts to see  Jesus and to hear His words

Our ultimate goal is to hear Jesus, to see Jesus and to proclaim Jesus from from what one has seen and heard

But afterwards he changed his mind and went

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 3rd Week : Tuesday*

*Gospel : Mt 21:28-32*

*First Reading : Zep 3:1-2, 9-13*

*But afterwards he changed his mind and went*

*1) Change of Mind*

It appears that the *Change* is the main theme of today's liturgy

In the first reading we hear about a city which refused to change the mind. As a result, the people in the city were not able to hear the voice of the Lord, they could not accept any corrections, people could not trust in the Lord, and they were not able to draw themselves towards God. Above all they were called Rebellious and polluted city.

*2) Change in Two sons*

The Gospel presents to us the parable of the two sons.

The first son later changes his mind and does whatever was asked to do by the father. This change is towards perfection

The second son also changed his mind. But this change is not for Good or towards perfection, but change towsds disobedience, disrespect and towards destruction

So change either can be for good or for worst

*3) Effect of Good Change*

There was a real and genuine change in the lives of tax collectors and the proustites.

They listened the word of Jesus and Changed their heart and mind and tried their level best to live according to the standards of the Gospel

The effect was very powerful. As Jesus says *Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutesare entering the Kingdom of God before you.*

This is the power of change of heart and mind

*4) Advent is for Change*

We are in the season of Advent. The main aim of advent is to prepare ourselves and wait for the Lord

We can prepare ourselves only by changing our heart and mind. Change is at the centre of Advent. So we are supposed to change our heart and mind, so that Jesus may be born in our heart

If so, what aspects of my life need to be changed?

What is my perception about the change of my heart and mind?

What are the challenges I encounter in the process of Change??

The Speciality of the Garden besides the Stream

https://gospelthoughtsdaily.blogspot.com

*GOSPEL THOUGHTS*

*Advent Season : 3rd Week : Monday*

*Gospel : Mt 21:23-27*

*First Reading : Nm 24:2-7, 15-17a*

*The Speciality of the Garden besides the Stream*

*1) Garden besides the Stream*

This particular expression comes in today's first reading

A garden besides the stream has many advantages

Such gardens get sufficient water in any season. So no fear of shortage of water

Such gardens are always look very green and beautiful

Such gardens produce much fruit

Such gardens will always attract many people towards its glory

Such gardens have full of life and newness

People always like such gardens

*2) Our life Should be a garden beside the stream*

The above expression goes very well to our life

Finally the goal of introducing such a thought in the Bible is to draw a lesson to our life

When our life becomes a garden, besides the stream, it becomes more fruitful, active, creative, full of life, attractive, and beautiful.

*3) Where is the stream?*

It is very important to identify the stream first. Accordingly we can identify the following realities as the stream of our life

Jesus our Lord and Master
The Holy Bible
The sacraments
Christian true spirituality
Service, sacrifice and generosity
Love, hope and charity
Sacrament of reconciliation
Holy Eucharist
Adoration
Respect for each other
Harmony between the religions
Prayer life

All these could be considered as the stream of true Christian life

*4) Where is My Garden?*

Our life is equal to a garden. If so where is this garden?

Is it besides the  power, position and wealth??

Is it besides, the worldly things, money, influence, and pleasure?

Is it besides, the gossip, hatred, division, and pride?

*Or*

Is it besides the love, humility, forgiveness, sincerity, simplicity, generosity, service, sacrifice, and sharing?

Is my garden is alive and active? Or already dying?

Changes that Should take place when Jesus comes

GOSPEL THOUGHTS*

*Advent Season : 3rd Week : Sunday*

*Gospel : Mt 11:2-11*

*First Reading : Is 35:1-6a, 10*

*SECOND READING Jas 5:7-10*

*Changes that Should take place when Jesus comes*

*1) The Great Change*

The liturgy of the day speaks about a change. A change which should happen or a chance which usually happens with the arrival of Jesus

This change, will bring about a change in our life, in our perspective, and in our outlook

The following point will help us to see that change

*2) Change of various things in life*

*A) Change in the sight*
This is a very important change. This change is not only limited to physical sight but more of spiritual sight

With the arrival of the spiritual sight must become powerful

*B) Change in the Walk*

Legs are always used for walking. When a person is not able to walk, it becomes a big problem

With the arrival of Jesus one directs his walk, towards Jesus, towards kingdom values and good things like, reconciliation, unity etc

*C) Change in the health care sector*

One of the important, missions of Jesus was healing

Healing can happen only when Jesus is there. With out Jesus we can do it

Healing of ones spiritual wounds, emotions winds and other wounds as well

*D) Change in Hearing*

With his public ministry Jesus new voice was heard

Apart from physical healing there were lots to other sources of hearing were activated

The conscience
Hearing the word of God
Hearing of good and great things

So when Jesus comes, all these things will change

The way of seeing the things
The way of hearing the things Back
Way of touching the little things

All these will change help us to grow in our life. Am I ready for a change. A change for Jesus' coming

Elijah has already come. Am I able to recognize Him?

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 2nd Week : Saturday*

*Gospel : Mt 17:9a, 10-13*

*First Reading : Sir 48:1-4, 9-11*

*Elijah has already come. Am I able to recognize Him?*

*1) Elijah was taken in a whirlwind of fire, in a chariot with fiery horses to Heaven*

This particular event reveals two things

First of all Elijah did not die. He was taken up to heaven alive

Secondly, He will come again before the Messiah

*2) John the Baptist and Elijah*

People were waiting for Elijah

Elijah appeared in the person of John the Baptist

But those people were not able to recognize Elijah in John the Baptist

That's why they didn't listen to Him

*3) Elijah Today*

The mission of Elijah or John the Baptist is to prepare the people for the arrival of Messiah

So we are preparing for the Nativity of the Lord. So in this context Elijah has already come

But then the question is, am I able to recognise him??

*4) Modern form of Elijah or John the Baptist*

John the Baptist is the one who preaches. Bible takes the place of John the Baptist in teaching us. Am I inspired by the Bible as I prepare for the Nativity?

John the Baptist is the voice which is crying. A voice which is crying for help. Am I able to hear?

John the Baptist is the one who fights for justice. There are many around us doing that same. Am I able to recognize them?

John the Baptist is the one who speaks the Truth. There are many who speak the Truth and give life witness for the same. Am I able to recognize them?

John the Baptist is the one who condemns the evil. Today many fight against evil. Am I able to recognise them?

John the Baptist is the one who lives a simple life. What about my perception about simplicity in life?

John the Baptist is the one who is courageous. Courage to uphold the Truth and ready to die for truth

All these above forms are nothing but the various holy tasks of John the Baptist. When we do them in our life, the influence of John the Baptist remains in us and we are able to recognise him

Where is my John the Baptist??

Your success is like the waves of the Sea

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 2nd Week : Friday*

*Gospel : Mt 11:16-19*

*First Reading : Is 48:17-19*

*Your success is like the waves of the Sea*

*1) The Speciality of the Waves in the Sea*

All of us have seen waves in the sea.

At any time of the day or night if we go to the seashore, waves are always present

There is not a moment when the waves are absent in the sea

The presence of the waves tells us that sea is very active and it does its work continuously without break

*2) Our Success is like the waves of the sea*

These words are found in today's first reading

The success which comes into our life, will be like the waves. Because this success comes from God

God is the source of this success. When success is like a waves in the sea, it has no end and the success will be the part and parcel of our life

*3) The Source of the Success*

God's commandments are the source of this success

That is why Isaiah says *Pay attention to the Commandments* Then your prosperity will be like a river and the success will be like a waves in the sea

So observing the commandments of the Lord, Paying attention to it, and giving first place in our life, will help us to achieve success, and the success which comes from observing the commandments will be like the waves in the sea.

*4) The Greatest commandment*

According to Jesus, commandment of Love is the greatest commandment

Love of God and love of the neighbor is the greatest commandment, which helps us to observe all the commandments of the Lord

The end result of the Love Commandment is the Success or victory, which is like a waves in the sea, which see no end

*5) What is success?*

By observing the commandments of the Lord

We get the peace of mind
We become more other centred
We become service minded people
We become more generous people
We become more lovable
We become more forgiving people
We become compassionate people
We become helping people
We get special inner joy

The above things are nothing but success

Those who get this type of success, he/she is really blessed and this flows like a waves in the sea

*6) The things that are in our life like waves in the sea*

God's blessings
God's mercy
God's grace
God's protection
God's unconditional love
God's friendship
God's forgiveness
God's patience
God's compassion

All these are like waves in the sea, which have no end.

Waves come one after another. Like wise these divine things come one after another

How do I respond to these waves in my life??

7) Waves always busy in cleaning the Water. So also the commandments of God help us in cleansing our life

8) Waves never allow dirty things to get it. So also the commandments of God

9) Waves put out the Unwanted things from the Sea. They don't keep it in them. So also the commandments of the Lord

For His Kingdom there will be no end.”

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 2nd Week : Thursday*

*Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception  of the Blessed Virgin Mary*

*Gospel : Lk 1:26-38*

*First Reading : Gn 3:9-15, 20*

*SECOND READING - Eph 1:3-6, 11-12*

*"For His Kingdom there will be no end.”*

*1) His Kingdom starts with Mary*

Today as we are celebrating the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed virgin Mary, it reminds us the beginning of the new reign through the Son of God

Jesus, who will be born through Mary, makes Mary's birth special and unique

That is why this could be called as new era, new beginning and new reign of God

*2) His Kingdom*

Here it refers to the Kingdom of God, which will be established by Jesus Christ

The kingdom which Jesus begins through His teaching and preaching becomes His Kingdom and the Kingdom of God

*3) His Kingdom consists in what?*

Jesus kingdom does not consists in Material things and according the Worldly Standards

His kingdom consists in Heavenly things and on Higher values

So His Kingdom consists in the Following

Love
Mercy
Forgiveness
Sharing
Generosity
Truth
Humility
Sacrifice
Service
Compassion
Sincerity
Patience
Tolerance
Peace
Harmony
Respect

*4) Why His Kingdom has no end*

The answer is very simple

All the above mentioned values have no end. They are eternal values and there is no end for it

So a kingdom which is established, under the foundation of Eternal Values has no end

Such a Kingdom lasts for eternity

So the Kingdom built by Jesus has no end. It goes for eternity

*5) Where is my Kingdom?*

As a Christian I am the follower of Christ

In this context where is my kingdom? On what things I have built my Kingdom?

Is it on material things or on the eternal things?

If it is built on eternal things, it has no end.

We are called upon to build the Kingdom of God on the eternal values

Am I ready to do this mission??

Why Jesus' burden is light

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 2nd Week : Wednesday*

*Gospel : Jn 10:11-16*

*First Reading : Eph 3:8-12*

*Why Jesus' burden is light*

*1) The burden of the Jewish Law*

The Pharisees had added around  600 regulations to the original Sabbath law, regarding what qualified as “working” on the Sabbath. That is a heavy burden!

So the observance of sabbath really became a heavy burden on the people

In fact people were finding it very hard to observe the Sabbath

*2) Jesus' burden is light*

In the context of 600 regulations of the Pharisees, Jesus' one commandment should be seen

Jesus had only one commandment, that is love of God and love of the neighbour

Comparing to 600 rigid laws, Jesus' one commandment is far superior, and its burden becomes very light

That is why Jesus says, my burden is very light

*3) How the burden becomes light?*

The Commandment of love depends on these things

*Forgiveness* When someone forgives, the whole burden becomes very light

*Humility* This is the another way which makes the burden very light

*Compassion* This is another aspect which has the capacity to lighten the burden

*Sacrifice* The sacrifice comes with inner convictions. When some one is able to make some little sacrifice, the joy which one gets through this gesture, can't get in anything else. Ultimately this lightens ones burden

*Word of God* Gives a kind of solace and happiness. Ultimately it lightens ones burden

*Sacraments* All the sacraments were instituted by Jesus. Celebration of the sacraments, make our life holy, which in turn lightens our burden

*4) Burden depends on ones convictions*

One who is inspired by Jesus and His teaching, is ready to do any sacrifice for the sake of faith

To such persons any burden appears as light and able to carry at any cost

So it also depends on ones convictions about something. That makes the burden light

*5) Jesus has shared our burden*

When Jesus' burden becomes light, our burden also becomes light

One of the reasons for the light burden is that, Jesus has already took the burden on himself and has made it very light

Secondly, Jesus is also accompanying  with us helping us to carry the burden

So this reduces the burden of the load

*6) My life*

Do I feel that the burden of my life is heavy or light?

Do I feel that Jesus is accompanying in my journey of life?

Do I feel that Jesus is carrying my burden to make it light for me?

What is the burden which of my life, which bothers me??

The need of lowering the Mountains and Hills in our life

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 2nd Week : Tuesday*

*Gospel : Mt 18:12-14*

*First Reading : Is 40:1-11*

*The need of lowering the Mountains and Hills in our life*

*1) Mountains and Hills*

The first reading speaks about the mountains and hills

Mountains and Hills are huge things, which need special efforts to level them or bring them down

It takes long time to bring down the mountains and hills

*2) Mountains and Hills in our life*

Prophet Isaiah, takes the realities of mountains and hills and speaks about leveling them, because we have to prepare a way

When it comes to life, it is symbolic meaning which is very important.

So there are things which grow like mountains and hills, which become the hurdles for a straight path

So the need of leveling them is very much necessary in order to create a straight path

*3) Various realities, which take the place of mountains and hills in our life*

At time pride grows like a mountain and hill in our life

Arrogance, duplicity, hypocrisy, are other realities which grow like a mountain and Hill in our life

Anger, hatred, revenge, jealousy, gossip and the poisonous things which grown like a mountain and hill in our life

Division, false information, ignorance, lack of confidence are other things which also grow like a mountain and hills in our life

*4) Obstacles for Jesus' way*

We are preparing for Jesus' coming

Our preparation involves in leveling the mountains and hills in our life, in order to remove these obstacles, which block the way of Jesus in our life

So removing these mountains and hills will facilitie to create a wonderful road to our heart where Jesus will travel and take birth

*5) Leveling is a tedious work*

Leveling is not a easy work. It is very difficult mission but not impossible

Leveling these things happens only in and through the process, and the process is unending till the last moment of our life

So we need to strive hard to level these things

Am I ready to cooperate with this work??

We have seen incredible things today.

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 2nd Week : Monday*

*Gospel : Lk 5:17-26*

*First Reading : Is 35:1-10*

*We have seen incredible things today.*

*1) People saw incredible things*

The Gospel of the day speaks about the healing of the paralytic by Jesus

The whole incident takes a different sequence in healing the paralytic.

When people wanted to bring  the paralytic to Jesus, they could not. Because of there was a big crowd.

Finally the opened the roof and lowered the patient, whom Jesus healed, because of the faith of those people

In this context people said, today we have seen incredible things

*2) Pharisees and the Scribes*

These didn't see any incredible things that day

But they saw a person who was blaspheming, because He forgave the sins of the paralytic

Their wrong conception about Jesus finally led them not to see any incredible things

*3) Incredible things in my Life*

Every day and every moment, lots of incredible things happen in our life.

But the question is, am I able to see these incredible things in my life

To see incredible things in my life and around me, I need to have faith in God and should have a eye which are able to recognize the incredible things

*4) Incredible things in my life*

Following are some examples

I am able to see
I am able to hear
I am able to speak, sing,
I am able to love
I am able to think what is right
I am able to walk
I am able to smile
I am able to pray

All those who see above things as incredible things, will consider them as incredible things in life

What are the incredible things in my life?

What are the incredible things so far I have seen??

Prepare the Way of the Heart for Jesus

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 2nd Week : Sunday*

*Gospel : Mt 3:1-12*

*First Reading : Is 11:1-10*

*SECOND READING- Rom 15:4-9*

*Prepare the Way of the Heart for Jesus*

*1) Advent is a preparing time*

In advent season we prepare ourselves to receive Jesus

Primarily Jesus comes into our heart and not to the crib. So we need to prepare our heart to receive Jesus

So the Gospel of the day gives us a call to *Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.*

So we need to concentrate the various paths leading to the destiny

*2) Heart is the Center*

Our heart is the centre, where Jesus wants to enter

So we need to concentrate on the various ways which lead to the heart

*3) Various ways which lead to the heart*

*Eyes* : Eyes are the primary vehicle of the heart. Eyes carry the reality to the heart through the mind

*Ears* : Ears are another important vehicle which carry the reality to the heart through the mind

*Mouth*: Mouth/Tongue is also a instrument which help the heart to get the reality

*Hands* Hands help the heart I getting the reality to the destiny

*Mind* An important aspect of the Body which ultimately helps the heart to understand and to receive the reality

*4) Urgency of  straightening of the Ways*

All the ways which lead to the heart need to the straightened and repaired so that the Lord may enter into the heart

Straightening of the eyes will help to see Jesus clearly

Straightening of the ears will help us to hear clearly the message of Jesus

Straightening of the mouth will help us to speak clearly about Jesus

Straightening of the hands will clearly to touch and hold Jesus in our hands

Straightening of the mind will help us to understand Jesus clearly in our life

Straightening of all these ways will facilitate Jesus to move towards our heart and to remain there

*5) Am I ready?*

We want Jesus to take birth in our heart

So we need to prepare the way for the same

So am I ready to straighten the ways, which help us to receive Jesus in heart?

What is my response?

The harvest is plentiful. Am I ready to work for the Lord

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 1st Week : Saturday*

*Gospel : Luke 10:1-16*

*First Reading : Jeremiah  1:4-9*

*The harvest is plentiful. Am I ready to work for the Lord?*

*1) The harvest is plentiful*

Whenever we hear this word or this imagery, we have a set understanding of this imagery

We think about becoming a religious to work for the Lord

We think about proclaiming the Gospel, for which one has to leave the family or personal commitment

We think exclusively about the mission of proclaiming, or totally  involved in Gospel ministry

So we easily think that it is not our ministry. But primarily the ministry of priests and sisters and others those who involve themselves in the Gospel ministry

But is this the meaning of the Harvest is plentiful and labourers are few?

*2) What is the harvest which is in plenty?*

There are less number of people who *forgive*. We need more people. So the harvest of forgiveness is plenty and the labourers are few

The harvest of *loving* someone in a genuine way is plenty. But labourers are few

The harvest of *generosity* is plenty. But labourers are very few

The harvest of *humility* is plenty but labourers are few

The harvest of *service* is plenty but labourers are very few

The harvest of *sacrifice* is in plentiful. But labourers are very few

The harvest of *sharing* is plenty. But the labourers are very few

The harvest of *peace* of plenty. But labourers are few

The harvest of *sincerity* is plenty. But labourers are few

The harvest of *praying for others* is plenty. But the labourers are very few

The harvest of *appreciating others* is plenty. But the labourers are few

*3) Every bit of good work is the part of the Harvest*

Anything that we do good for others sake and  for my own sake is the part of the great harvest which is before me

There is no good work out side the harvest of the Lord

Such a harvest is in plenty and there are few labourers to carry out this task

*4) Lords harvest can be carried out from anywhere and by anyone*

The above mission tells us that to work for the Lord one need not be a religious person

Any one is eligible to carry out the mission of the Lord

Accordingly all must involve themselves is spreading the Gospel through the above mentioned Gospel values

Such work is in plenty and we need to  work for it since there are few labourers

*5) Am I ready to work for the Lord?*

Lord needs a person to forgive. Am I ready?

Lord needs to person who can love. Am I ready?

Lord needs a person to smile. Am I ready?

Lord needs a person who can listen to others. Am I ready?

Lord needs a person, who can help others. Am I ready?

Lord needs a person who can speak always good. Am I ready

Lord needs a person who can show what is right and what is wrong. Am I ready?

Lord needs a person who is patient. Am I ready?

Lord needs to person who can see Jesus in others. Am I ready?

Lord needs to person who can avoid gossip. Am I ready

The harvest is plentiful. But the labourers are few. Am I ready to serve the Lord, from where I am??

The sight of the blind men

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season : 1st Week : Friday*

*Gospel : Mt 9:27-31*

*First Reading : Is 29:17-24*

*The sight of the blind men*

*1) The Two blind men*

A blind person is the one who is not able to see anything.

When someone is unable to see the things around him/her such a person is called blind

The Gospel presents two such persons in today's Gospel

*2) The sight of the blind men*

Even though they were physically blind they had great inner sight. This is clear from the following things

*A) They followed Jesus*

The Gospel makes it very clear that *two blind men followed him, crying out, “Son of David, have pity on us!”*

They followed Jesus until the house where Jesus entered

So this is something great. Blind men were able to follow Jesus

This following of Jesus can be at different level

At the physical level
At the spiritual level
At the heart level
At the understanding level etc

*B) They were able to locate the House*

It is something unimaginable, that blind men were able to identify the house which Jesus entered

Secondly they also entered the house where Jesus was

What is the power of their inner sight??

*C) They approached Jesus*

Once again here it is a mystery

Since they were blind they might not have seen Jesus

But they are able to approach Jesus and to speak to him

This is something very great

*D) They were able to identify Jesus as Lord*

The blind men call Jesus as Lord

Once again we see the inner sight of the blind men

*3) Physical blindness is not a problem*

From the example of two blind men, it is very clear that physical blindness is  not a big issue in finding out the great realities

These two blind men had inner deep sight, that is why they were able to follow Jesus, identify Jesus, were able to approach Jesus and finally was able to accept Jesus as the Master

*4) The type of blindness that really matters*

The blindness of the mind
The blindness of the heart
The blindness of the conscience
The blindness of mouth
The blindness of the ears
The blindness of the sensitivity
The blindness of Gospel values

Many of the Pharisees and scribes were blind in their mind, heart, and in their approach. Therefore they were not able to recognize Jesus

*5) What type of blindness is affecting me?*

Is it the physical blindness?

Is it the spiritual blindness?

Is it the blindness of the other important faculties of my life??

Moral blindness, and spiritual blindness is more dangerous than the physical blindness.

Where is my blindness??
