Great Lessons from Shepherds Life

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season: Mary Mother of God : Feast*

*Gospel : Lk 2:16-21*

*First Reading : Nm 6:22-27*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8*

*Second Reading : Gal 4:4-7*

*Great Lessons from Shepherds Life*

*1) God's Choice of the Shepherds*

The first good news of the birth of Jesus was conveyed to the Shepherds

They were very simple people. Yet God chose the shepherds for this great event. The reasons may be following

Shepherds are always alert
Shepherds always protect their sheep
Shepherds are always with sheep
Shepherds consider sheep as their wealth

One should have a shepherds heart to become the sincere follower of Jesus the shepherd

*2) Belief in the Divine message*

When the shepherds saw the great and wonderful things, they simply believed about what was said by the angels

Immediately the shepherds glorified and praised God for all they had seen and heard, confirming the truth of the angel's message.

Their response is a model for us to believe in the mighty works of God

when we witness God's work in our lives, like shepherds we are called to share that joy and gratitude with others.

*3) Praise as a Natural Response to God's Work*

The shepherds returned to their everyday lives, but their encounter with Christ transformed them.

They glorified and praised God as they went back to their work.

This highlights that worship is not confined to specific moments but should permeate all aspects of life.

Encountering Christ changes not only how we worship but also how we live.

*4) God's Glory Revealed to the Humble*

The shepherds, who were among the lowliest in society, were the first to witness the angelic proclamation and see the Christ child.

This highlights God's preference for the humble and lowly, echoing themes throughout Scripture

It reminds us that God often reveals His glory not to the powerful but to those with open and humble hearts.

*5)  A Renewed Identity*

The shepherds returned to their fields and flocks, but they were no longer just *shepherds*

They became witnesses and worshipers.

This shift underscores how meeting Christ renews our sense of purpose and identity

*6) From Fear to Joy*

Initially, the shepherds were terrified when the angel appeared (Luke 2:9).

But their fear gave way to great joy as they heard the good news and met the Savior.

This mirrors the spiritual journey of many believers: God’s presence may initially confront and overwhelm us, but His grace brings peace and joy

*7) Living in the Light of Glory*

The shepherds didn’t remain at the manger. They carried the joy and wonder of their experience back into their world.

This teaches that our encounters with Christ are not meant to be confined to isolated moments; they are meant to shape our lives.

Like the shepherds, we are called to live in the light of Christ’s glory, letting it transform our work, relationships, and worship.

Jesus the Light, Who shines in the darkness

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season: 31st December : Tuesday*

*Gospel :Jn 1:1-18*

*First Reading : 1 Jn 2:18-21*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 96:1-2, 11-12, 13*

*Jesus the Light, Who shines in the darkness*

*1) The Light Shines in the Darkness*

The phrase “The light shines in the darkness” comes from John 1:5 and is rich in meaning.

First of all it refers to Jesus.  The aspect of light refers to the personality of Jesus, His mission and also His victory over the darkness of sin and death

Light is a beautiful concept,  which has multiple levels of meaning and spiritual significance to our life as well

*2) Christ as the Eternal Light*

Christ is described as the true light that gives life to all (John 1:4).

The light represents God’s truth, holiness, and presence in a world overshadowed by sin and ignorance.

Jesus, as the light, brings revelation and salvation to those living in spiritual darkness

*3) The Continuous burning of Light*

The phrase emphasizes that the light *shines* a continuous action, signifying that Christ’s presence and mission persist despite opposition.

Darkness, often symbolizing sin, evil, or death, cannot overcome the light.

This conveys the triumph of Christ over sin through His life, death, and resurrection

*4) Defeat of the Darkness by Light*

For believers, this verse offers immense comfort.

No matter how overwhelming the darkness of trials, sin, or suffering may seem, the light of Christ shines through, offering guidance, comfort, and redemption.

*The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?”* Psalm 27:1

It reminds us that darkness never defeat the Light of Christ

*5)  Mission to Reflect the Light*

As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His light in the world.

Jesus says *You are the light of the world*

If we fail to reflect the Light of Christ, our life has no mission and goal. Reflecting Jesus' light in the World is the primary mission of a followers of Christ

Living as Christ’s light involves acts of love, justice, and truth, dispelling darkness in our communities and drawing others to God’s grace.

*6) Christmas, the arrival of the Eternal Light*

This verse speaks very strongly during the Christmas season, when the birth of Christ is celebrated as the arrival of light into the world.

Christmas is celebrated as the festival of light and Jesus the Light of the World

It reminds us of the humble yet powerful beginning of salvation history, fulfilling prophecies like Isaiah 60:1, *Arise, shine, for your light has come!*

How about my life as the Light?

Do I shine in the darkness like Jesus?

What are the ways through which I shine in my life?

The Spirituality of prophetess Anna

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season: 30th December : Monday*

*Gospel : Lk 2:36-40*

*First Reading : 1 Jn 2:12-17*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 96:7-8a, 8b-9, 10*

*The Spirituality of prophetess Anna*

*1) Faithfulness in Adversity*

Anna had lost her husband. She was able to live her marrired life only for seven years

Despite this personal loss, she remained steadfast in her devotion to God.

She never complained about her challenges or any other adverse situations of life

Her example reflects the biblical principle of finding strength and purpose in God amidst adversity (Psalm 34:18).

*2) A Life of Worship*

Anna gave first place to God in her life

The Gospel says *She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying* (Luke 2:37).

Her life revolved around worship and intercession, showing her deep love for God and commitment to His will.

*3) Life filled with Hope*

Anna eagerly awaited the redemption of Israel.

Her encounter with the baby Jesus fulfilled her long-held hope, showing the reward of patient and expectant faith

Hope never disappointed her.

During this Jubilee Year 2025 we are called upon to live our life with Divine Hope which changes our life for better

*4) Prophetic Insight*

As a prophetess, Anna recognized Jesus as the Messiah.

This was possible because of  her deep rooted spiritual discernment, and her deep relationship with God.

Prayer and fasting was the foundation for the prophetic insight which helped her to recognize Jesus the Messiah

*5) A Witness to Others*

After encountering Jesus, Anna *gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem* (Luke 2:38).

Sharing of the Good News or the experience of Jesus was the spontaneous response of Prophetess Anna

This shows the primary mission of the followers of Jesus, to spread the Good News.

In this regard she a model for us in bearing the witness to Christ

*6) Perseverance in Devotion*

Anna was *very old* 84 years of age

Yet her age did not hinder  her from active service to God.

Her life is a mirror of  perseverance in faith irrespective of her age

Her life shows that one can persevere in faith at any moment of our life

Am I ready to follow the spirituality of Prophetess Anna?

Why boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem?

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season*

*Feast of the Holy Family*

*Gospel : Mt 2:13-15, 19-23 or Lk 2:41-52*

*First Reading : Sir 3:2-6, 12-14 or 1 Sm 1:20-22, 24-28*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 128:1-2, 3, 4-5 or: Ps 84:2-3, 5-6, 9-10*

*Second Reading Col 3:12-21 or 3:12-17 or 1 Jn 3:1-2, 21-24*

*Why boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem?*

*1) The Importance of the Temple*

Jesus’ choice to stay in the temple highlights the  significance of the temole as the dwelling place of God’s presence.

From Jesus' work in the temple it is also clear that the temple is the center of spiritual learning.

His engagement with the teachers reflects His deep hunger for God’s Word. This invites us to examine our dedication to learn and to grow in the Scriptures.

*2) Symbol of Transition*

Jesus' choice to stay in the temple could be seen as the symbol of transition

Transition from his childhood to public ministry

Transition from private life to public life

Transition from the smaller family to a greater family. From biological family to divine higher family

Transition from learning from the home people to learned people

Transition to his His public ministry

His time in the temple could be seen as a foreshadowing of His later ministry, teaching in synagogues and proclaiming the Kingdom of God.

*3) Awareness of His Divine Mission*

Jesus' choice to remain temple also highlights the awareness of His unique identity and mission.

When Mary and Joseph find Him in the temple, He says, *Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?* (Luke 2:49).

This indicates His growing understanding of His relationship with God the Father and His role in fulfilling divine purposes.

*4) Preference for Spiritual Learning*

Jesus’ lingering in Jerusalem invites us to linger in God’s presence and deepen our understanding of Him.

The teachers in the temple were astonished by Jesus’ wisdom, even at a young age, which challenges us to grow spiritually, and to seek wisdom and insight irrespective of our age

*5) Revelation of Greater Truths*

At the age 12 people are able to reason out in a better way

Jesus' choice to remain in Jerusalem and all the things which followed because of this incident, in a way reveal the greater truths about Jesus' mission and personality

The Revelation of  His intimate relationship with the Father

Revelation of His extraordinary wisdom

Revelation of His courage to face and challenge the so called learned people

*6) A Lesson for His Parents*

Mary and Joseph experienced anxiety and confusion when they realized Jesus was missing.

They didn't fully understand His explanation his explanation of being in the temple either

So, this moment likely deepened their awareness of Jesus’ divine nature and mission, reminding them that He belonged to God first and foremost.

By staying in the temple, Jesus demonstrated the importance of prioritizing time in God’s presence. He was drawn to His “Father’s house” as a place of worship, learning, and communion with God.

Silent witness of the Children to Jesus the King

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season: Christmas*

*Gospel :Mt 2:13-18*

*First Reading : 1 Jn 1:5—2:2*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 124:2-3, 4-5, 7cd-8*

*Feast of the Holy Innocents*

*Silent witness of the Children to Jesus the King*

*1) Innocence as Witness to Christ*

The Holy Innocents, though unable to consciously proclaim Christ, bear witness to Him through their sacrifice.

In their innocence, they symbolize purity and a life offered to God, echoing Jesus’ words *Let the little children come to me... for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these"* (Matthew 19:14).

*2) The Reality of Evil and God’s Sovereignty*

Herod's actions reveal the destructive nature of sin and the fear-driven rejection of God’s plan.

Yet, even in such darkness, God's sovereignty prevails. Jesus, who escaped this massacre, would later conquer sin and death on the cross, bringing ultimate victory over evil.

*3) Powerful witness to Christ in the History*

The massacre of the Holy Innocents, speaks louder than any witness to Christ in the History of the Church today

The cry of the innocent children is louder than any sound or cry in the world today

The cry of the children bear witness to Christ to the entire world today

*4) The Cost of Following Christ*

The Holy Innocents remind us of the cost of discipleship.

Though they did not choose martyrdom, their deaths foreshadow the sacrifices required to follow Christ

*5) Eternal Life for the Innocents*

The Holy Innocents are often seen as examples of baptism by blood.

Their martyrdom granted them a place in God’s eternal kingdom, fulfilling Jesus’ promise in John 14:2: "I am going there to prepare a place for you."

These reflections on the Holy Innocents challenge us to honor the value of life, trust in God’s providence, and find hope in Christ’s ultimate victory over sin and death.

Their story continues to call believers to faith, courage, and compassion.

Importance of the Burial clothes of Jesus

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Christmas Season: 27th December*

*Feast of St John*

*Gospel : Jn 20:1a and 2-8*

*First Reading : 1 Jn 1:1-4*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12*

*Importance of the Burial clothes of Jesus*

*1) The Burial clothes of Jesus*

For the followers of Jesus, the burial clothes have special importance

They hold profound spiritual and theological significance in Christianity.

They are mentioned in the Gospel accounts, particularly in John 20:6-7, where the burial clothes and the folded face cloth are described.

*2) Evidence of the Resurrection*

The burial clothes, especially the neatly folded face cloth, are seen as evidence of Jesus' resurrection.

They indicate that His body was not stolen because the grave robbers would not leave the clothes behind in an orderly manner.

Instead, the scene suggests that Jesus rose from the dead in a calm and deliberate manner.

*3) Symbol of Victory Over Death*

The folded and left behind burial clothes symbolize Jesus' victory over death.

By leaving them behind, He demonstrates that He has overcome the mortal limitations of His human body and has been glorified in His resurrection.

*4) Symbol of New Life*

In biblical symbolism, shedding burial clothes can represent putting off the old, corruptible body and entering into a new, incorruptible life.

This indicates the Christian hope of resurrection and eternal life.

*5) Contrast to Lazarus' Resurrection*

In John 11, when Lazarus is raised from the dead, he comes out from the tomb with wrapped burial clothes. There was a need of someone to unbind him.

In contrast, Jesus' burial clothes are left behind, emphasizing the unique and divine nature of His resurrection.

*6) An Invitation to Faith*

The sight of the burial clothes led John, the beloved disciple, to believe in the resurrection (John 20:8).

For us Christians, the burial clothes serve as an invitation to trust in the reality and power of Jesus' resurrection

How do I see the burial clothes of Jesus?

*Lessons to learn from St Stephen*

*1) Faithfulness in Service*

St. Stephen, the first martyr, is a significant figure in Christian theology and spirituality.

We can learn many lessons from this Martyr

St. Stephen was chosen as one of the first deacons to serve the early Christian community.

His appointment reflects the importance of service rooted in faith.

His example encourages Christians to embrace humility and dedication in fulfilling their roles in the Church.

*2)Filled with the Spirit and Wisdom*

Stephen was described as “full of faith and the Holy Spirit” (Acts 6:5)

He is the one who performed great wonders and signs among the people (Acts 6:8).

His wisdom is very evident in defending the faith

*3) Courage in Witness*

Stephen boldly proclaimed the truth of Jesus Christ, even when he faced lots of challenges

His speech before the Sanhedrin  outlined God’s faithfulness throughout history and the people's rejection of His messengers.

His fearless testimony invites believers to stand firm in faith, even when facing persecution.

*4) Forgiveness and Christlikeness*

As he was being stoned, Stephen prayed for his persecutors, saying, *Lord, do not hold this sin against them* (Acts 7:60).

His final words echo Jesus’ prayer on the cross, reflecting his deep imitation of Christ.

His life is a mirror to Forgiveness

*5) Vision of Heaven*

In his final moments, Stephen saw a vision of Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

This vision affirmed his faith and strengthened him to face death with hope.

It reminds believers of the ultimate reward for faithfulness—eternal communion with God.

*6) Legacy of St. Stephen*

The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Christianity. To this reality, the martyrdom of Stephen became the foundation of Christianity

Stephen's martyrdom resulted the Gospel to spread beyond Jerusalem

*1) Christmas is the celebration of God's Humility*

Christmas is the celebration of multiple things

First of all it is the celebration of God's humility

God humbled himself to come down to this world, as a simple human being

Sacrificing his Heavenly throne and coming into this world as human being shows the height of God's humility

*2) Christmas is the celebration of God's Love*

The sacrifice is the central point in God becoming man, that is Emmanuel

*5) Christmas is the Celebration of Peace*

When Jesus was born angels sang the heavenly song highlighting the peace to those of Good will

Peace is another important point in the celebration of the Christmas

In the Christmas story every one gives.

The important message of Zachariah's Song

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Fourth Week : Tuesday*

*Gospel : Lk 1:67-79*

*First Reading : 2 Sm 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 89:2-3, 4-5, 27 and 29*

*The important message of Zachariah's Song*

*1) The Benedictus of Zechariah*

This is also known as the Song of Zechariah, is found in Luke 1:68-79.

It is a hymn of praise and prophecy spoken by Zechariah after the birth of his son, John the Baptist.

This song is filled with profound theological truths and hope, offering several meaningful reflections

*2) Praise for Redemption*

*Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people.*

Zechariah song is nothing but the praise for God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises of salvation.

This reminds us to recognize God's intervention in our lives and to be grateful for His work of redemption through Christ.

*3) The Fulfillment of Promises*

The Benedictus shows that God is faithful to the covenant He made to Abraham

This covenant is fulfilled through the birth of Jesus

John the Baptist is the one who will prepare the way for Messiah

It reflects that God never forgets His promises. God’s promises are true and eternal

*4) Salvation and Deliverance*

These are the two important themes which are highlighted in the Song of Zachariah

God’s salvation is not only about deliverance from physical enemies but also spiritual liberation

*5) The Role of John the Baptist*

The song of Zachariah highlights tgr role of John

John's mission was to prepare the way for the Lord  and the hearts of the people to receive the Messiah

This mission is reflected in the benedictus

*6) The Dawn of Light*

Zachariah's song concludes with the metaphor of light piercing darkness, symbolizing, Jesus as the light of the World

We need to allow ourselves to pierce this light into our heart and mind to guide our path

Am I able to follow the beautiful things as highlighted in the Benedictus, as I pray the song of Zachariah?

The Uniqueness of the Name John

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Fourth Week : Monday*

*Gospel : Lk 1:57-66*

*First Reading : Mal 3:1-4, 23-24*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 25:4-5ab, 8-9, 10 and 14*

*The Uniqueness of the Name John*

*1) God's intervention in Naming*

The name *John* was not chosen by Elizabeth or Zechariah but was divinely appointed by God through the angel Gabriel.

In Luke 1:13, the angel tells Zechariah:
*Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.*

This indicates that the name carries a divine purpose, emphasizing God's active role in John's life and mission.

*2) Meaning of the Name John*

The name *John* means *God is gracious* or *The Lord has shown favor.*

John's name reflects the *grace of God* not only in giving Elizabeth and Zechariah a son in their old age but also in the larger context of salvation history, as John would prepare the way for Jesus, the ultimate manifestation of God's grace.

*3) John as New Beginning*

When Zechariah and Elizabeth insist on naming their son John, the relatives are surprised because it breaks with the Jewish tradition of naming a child after a family member.

This reflects that John's life and mission would be unique, set apart by God.

It symbolizes the newness of the covenant and the fresh work God was about to do through John and Jesus.

*4) Restoration of Zachariah's Speech*

Zechariah, who doubted God's promise and was rendered mute, confirms the name *John* by writing it down.

At that moment, his speech is restored (Luke 1:63-64). This signifies,  restoration of something valuable which was lost (His voice),  his renewed faith and obedience to God's plan.

*5) John as a instrument of God’s Grace*

By naming him *John,* God was marking him as a vessel of His grace and favor.

John’s life and ministry centered on calling people to repentance and pointing them to the grace of God revealed in Jesus Christ.

*6) Spiritual Implications for Us*

The story of John’s naming reminds us that God knows us intimately and calls us by name for His purposes (Isaiah 43:1).

Like John, every believer has a unique role in God's plan and is a recipient of His grace.

The Encounter of Mary and Elizabeth

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Fourth Week : Sunday*

*Gospel : Lk 1:39-45*

*First Reading : Mi 5:1-4a*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19*

*Second Reading - Heb 10:5-10*

*The Encounter of Mary and Elizabeth*

*1) One of the Significant moments*

The encounter between Mary and Elizabeth could be considered as one of the most significant and beautiful encounters in the Gospels

This encounter as multi dimensions. The spiritual, relational, human, emotional, practical etc

This encounter opens a new world of God's revelation to all of us

*2) Mutual Encouragement and Support*

Mary visited Elizabeth during her pregnancy, likely seeking wisdom and encouragement.

Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, affirms Mary's role as the mother of the Messiah and calls her "blessed among women" (Luke 1:42)

Here we see both women support each other and share similar situation

*3) Joyful Recognition of God’s Work*

Elizabeth's greeting acknowledges God's action in Mary's life, and the baby in Elizabeth's womb leaps for joy at the presence of Jesus.

This highlights how their encounter is filled with recognition of God's grace and joy in His presence.

*4) Generational Bond*

Elizabeth, much older than Mary, represents wisdom and experience, while Mary represents youthful obedience and faith.

Together, they bridge generations, showing how God’s plans transcend age and status

This has a great lesson for us to learn in balancing the Generational gap

*5)  A Model for Christian Community*

Their interaction reflects the ideal of Christian fellowship: mutual respect, affirmation of God’s presence, and shared joy in His blessings.

Mary and Elizabeth are the great models for community living

*6)  A Time of Praise and Gratitude*

The meeting of Mary and Elizabeth leads to Mary’s Magnificat (Luke 1:46–55), a song of praise and thanksgiving to God.

Their relationship inspires worship and gratitude for God's faithfulness.

Meeting one another always should help us to praise God, acknowledge his greatness

The Attitude of service of Mary

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Third Week : Saturday*

*Gospel :Lk 1:39-45*

*First Reading : Sg 2:8-14 or Zep 3:14-18a*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 33:2-3, 11-12, 20-21*

*The Attitude of service of Mary*

*1) Mary and Service*

Mary's attitude of service toward Elizabeth, as described in Luke 1:39-56, reflects humility, love, obedience, and faith.

Her example is an inspiration to all of us as regards how believers should approach serving others.

*2) Humility in Service*

Despite her unique calling as the mother of the Messiah, Mary willingly travels to serve Elizabeth, who is elderly and pregnant.

This shows her humility and willingness to prioritize others' needs over her own.

*3) Readiness to Serve*

Mary *went with haste* to visit Elizabeth (Luke 1:39) shows her eagerness and diligence in serving.

She didn’t delay but responded quickly to the prompting of the Spirit.

Like Mary we are called to act promptly in love and service, as emphasized in Galatians 5:13, *Through love, serve one another.*

*4) Joyful Service*

Mary's visit was not just practical but also deeply spiritual.

Her arrival brings joy to Elizabeth and causes John to leap in the womb.

Mary’s service is marked by a joyful and uplifting presence.

Service which is rooted in joy and love,  brings blessings to others.

*5) Encouragement Through Service*

Mary’s visit strengthens Elizabeth, who is filled with the Holy Spirit.

Her visit to Elizabeth demonstrates how service can inspire and affirm others in their walk with God.

*6) Sacrificial Love*

Mary's visit and service to Elizabeth is nothing but the reflection of her sacrificial Love towards Elizabeth and others

Mary’s willingness to travel a long distance while pregnant highlights her selflessness.

She puts Elizabeth's needs before her own, which highlights her sacrificial love.

*7) God-Centered Perspective*

Mary's service to Elizabeth can be seen as a act of worship

Magnificat is nothing but her gratitude to God. She is also grateful for the opportunity to serve Elizabeth

In her service God's will is seen, God's greatness is seen and loving obedience to the will of God is very much highlighted

Mary's attitude of service toward Elizabeth is a model of humility, joy, faith, and love. Her actions remind believers that serving others is an integral part of living out faith, glorifying God, and strengthening His people.

*Gospel : Lk 1:26-38*

*First Reading : Is 7:10-14*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 24:1-2, 3-4ab, 5-6*

*The Speciality of Mary's Yes to the Lord*

*1) Mary and Yes*

In the Life of Mary, Her *Yes* to the Lord has a special significance

This *Yes* completely changes the direction of her life and the direction of the Human History

This *Yes* becomes a special moment the the Salvation History and the Salvific plan of God.

In other Words the Salvific plan of God becomes a reality from the moment Mary said *Yes* to the Lord

Mary's *Yes* has a following important reflections

*2) Trust in God’s Plan*

Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel demonstrates complete trust, even in the face of uncertainty.

She accepts God’s will without fully understanding the implications.

She fully relies on the providence of God. This is nothing but the height of her faith

*3) Humility and Servanthood*

Mary acknowledges her lowly status but does not resist God’s call.

Her humility allows her to become a vessel for God’s work.

Mary's *Yes* teaches the value of humility in responding to God’s call. She does not seek glory for herself but glorifies God through her acceptance

*4) Courage in the Face of Challenge*

The great challenge Mary had to face from the Society

The challenge of Being misunderstood by the society and the risk of being stoned to death, and other challenges as well

Yet, she embraces God’s will with courage.

*5) Collaboration with God’s Plan for Salvation*

Mary’s *Yes* allows God’s redemptive plan to unfold through the Incarnation of Jesus Christ.

Her *Yes* is a very significant moment  in salvation history.

*6) Joy in Obedience*

Mary's *Yes* finally resulted in being chosen by God

Thats why in her Magnificat, Mary expresses joy and gratitude for being chosen to serve God’s purpose.

*7) Faithful Listening*

This is the another important aspect of Mary's *Yes*

Only one who listens carefully can understand and say *Yes*

Mary's *Yes* may inspire us to say listen to the voice of God and to say *Yes* to his will

How about saying Yes to God's will in my Life?

The significance of the silence of Zachariah

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Third Week : Thursday*

*Gospel :Lk 1:5-25*

*First Reading : Jgs 13:2-7, 24-25a*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 71:3-4a, 5-6ab, 16-17*

*The significance of the silence of Zachariah*

*1) The aspects of Faith and Doubt*

Zachariah's initial response to Gabriel's message was doubt.

His silence becomes a consequence of his lack of faith.

His silence also a reminder of the importance of trusting God's promises even when the things seems to be impossible by human standards

*2) The silence and the Reflection*

Zachariah's period of silence was also a time of reflection and spiritual growth

Since he could not speak, he had to rely on other ways to communicate and ponder deeply on God's message

By the time his speech was restored, he was ready to praise God and prophesy bodly

Silence can be seen as a gift that allows us ti pause, listen to God, and grow in understanding

*3) God's Faithfulness in Human Failure*

Despite Zachariah's disbelief, God's promise was fulfilled. Elizabeth conceived and John was born

This shows that God's plans are not hindered by our limitations or failures

God's faithfulness is greater  than our weakness. God can write straight in crooked lines

God can bring his plans even when we fall

*4) Preparation for greater things*

Zachariah's silence also resulted in greater things

The silence prepared him to proclaim one of the most profound prophecies about God's salvation plan in the Benedictus (Luke 1:67-79)

In one Word, the silence of Zachariah is a story of discipline, growth, restoration, reminding us to trust in God's promises and to remain faithful to Him alone

*5) God's mercy in discipline*

Although Zachariah's muteness was a consequence of his doubt, it was not a punishment to condemn, but a discipline to over come his doubt

God's mercy is evident in the way He restored Zachariah and allowed him to participate in Salvific plan

*6) The Value of Silence?*

How do I handle the silence in my life?

What are my reaction when I silenced because of various others factors which are around me?

What are the lessons I can learn from the silence?

*Think about it*

Emmanuel : God is with Us

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Third Week : Wednesday*

*Gospel :Mt 1:18-25*

*First Reading : Jer 23:5-8*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 72:1-2, 12-13, 18-19*

*Emmanuel : God is with Us*

*1) God is with Us*

This is a beautiful phrase, which evokes a divine feeling in us

With the birth of Jesus, God became one with man and lived among us

This changes the real human history because, in and through Jesus one can see God, experience God  and live with God

*2) God's Presence Among Us*

This phrase helps us to see God's presence among us

To the believers God is not one who is far away but has come near.

The message of Emmanuel is that God is not someone, who is far away, but intimately involved in the lives of His people.

*3) Fulfillment of Prophecy*

In the Old Testament, the prophecy was a sign to King Ahaz that God was with His people, even in times of trial.

In Matthew's Gospel, this prophecy finds its ultimate fulfillment in the birth of Jesus, a reminder that God keeps His promises across generations.

It signals the arrival of the Messiah who would be God’s ultimate sign of divine presence and intervention in the world

*4) God's Love and Compassion*

The reality of "Emmanuel" shows the depth of God's love.

God does not remain far sway from us or uninvolved but chooses to enter human history and experience the full range of human life.

In Jesus, God enters into human suffering and provides a way for salvation.

*5) Hope and Assurance*

The name "Emmanuel" offers hope to believers, particularly in times of hardship.

It is a reminder that no matter how difficult life may be, God is with us.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says "I am with you always, to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:20).

This promise of Jesus can be seen in the *Emmanuel*

For Christians, this promise assures that God's presence is constant, even in times of fear, uncertainty, or suffering.

*6) The Ongoing Presence of God*

Jesus, as "Emmanuel," is not just a moment in history but an ongoing reality.

While Jesus ascended to heaven, His presence continues through the Holy Spirit.

The early Christians, as well as believers today, experience God’s presence in their lives through the indwelling Spirit.

Thus, "Emmanuel" is not just a past event; it is a present reality in the lives of those who follow Christ.

God *is* with us. The present tense in the above sentence is very important. *Was* and *will be* does not apply to God's presence. It *is* and always

*7) The Revelation of God*

The name "Emmanuel" also signifies the full revelation of who God is.

In Jesus, one can see God. The revelation of God happens through Jesus.

In Jesus, God's character, His love, justice, mercy, and holiness, are revealed in a way that humans can understand and encounter.

Importance of the Genealogy

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Third Week : Tuesday*

*Gospel :Mt 1:1-17*

*First Reading : Gen 49:2, 8-10*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 72:1-2, 3-4ab, 7-8, 17*

*Importance of the Genealogy*

*1) The Genealogy of Jesus*

The Gospel of the day has the genealogy of Jesus

We find a series of names in the list. But it is more than a mere list of names. It serves multiple layers of purpose and meaning.

Primarily Genealogy of Jesus is found in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke.

The genealogy of Jesus holds significant theological, historical, and symbolic importance in Christian tradition.

*2) Affirmation of Jesus’ Davidic Lineage*

This is the primary purpose of the Genealogy.

In both the Gospel of Matthew and Luke, the genealogy traces Jesus’ descent from King David, fulfilling Old Testament prophecies that the Messiah would come from David's line.

For Jewish readers, this connection was essential in identifying Jesus as the promised Savior.

Matthew emphasizes this connection to show Jesus’ rightful place as the Messiah in Jewish history, while Luke traces the lineage back to Adam, highlighting the universal scope of Jesus' mission, extending beyond just the Jewish people.

*3) Salvation for all*

This truth is powerfully presented in the genealogy.

The family tree of Jesus includes the following

Rahab, a Canaanite prostitute
David, an adulterer and murderer.

By including such individuals, the genealogy emphasizes that God's grace transcends human sinfulness and imperfections.

It demonstrates that Jesus’ coming into the world was not through a line of perfect or holy people, but rather through a history marked by both human brokenness and divine redemption.

This gives hope to Christians that Jesus is for all people, regardless of their past or social standing.

*4) Jesus’ Humanity and Divinity*

The genealogy of Jesus also highlights both his humanity and divinity.

Through his human ancestry, Jesus is fully connected to the human experience, sharing in the struggles and history of his people.

At the same time, as the Son of God, his incarnation in the world is seen as the culmination of God's plan for humanity’s salvation.

This dual nature—fully human and fully divine—is central to Christian doctrine and is exemplified through his genealogy.

*5) Genealogy and New Beginnins*

Luke’s genealogy traces Jesus' lineage back to Adam. There is a deeper meaning here

Jesus, as the "Second Adam" (1 Corinthians 15:45), is seen as the one who restores what was lost in the fall of humanity.

The first  Adam brought sin and death into the world, but the Second Adam, Jesus brought redemption and eternal life.

Thus, Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s original creation purpose, inaugurating a new creation in himself.

*6) God's Grace for all*

The inclusion of sinners and outsiders in the genealogies, especially women like Tamar, Rahab, and Ruth, signals that God’s grace is extended to all, regardless of background or past sins.

This teaches us that salvation through Christ is not based on human merit but on God's gracious choice.

Am I the part of the genealogy of Jesus??

Various Reasons for Questioning the Authority of Jesus by Chief priests and Elders

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Third Week : Monday*

*Gospel : Mt 21:23-27*

*First Reading : Nm 24:2-7, 15-17a*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 25(24):4-5ab, 6 and 7bc, 8-9*

*Various Reasons for Questioning the Authority of Jesus by Chief priests and Elders*

*1) Fear of Losing Power and Influence*

The chief priests and elders held significant authority over religious and social matters in Jewish society.

Jesus' actions, such as cleansing the temple and teaching the crowds, directly challenged their authority.

His growing popularity threatened their control over the people, making them defensive and confrontational.

*2) Rejection of Jesus as the Messiah*

The religious leaders rejected Jesus as the Messiah because He did not fit their expectations.

They expected a political leader who would overthrow Roman rule and restore Israel's national independence.

They did not want a humble teacher preaching repentance and spiritual renewal.

*3) Conflict Over Religious Practices*

Jesus often criticized the religious leaders for their hypocrisy and legallistic approach in everything.

By calling out their misuse of the law and their neglect of justice, mercy, and faithfulness, Jesus exposed their moral and spiritual failures.

His actions disrupted the status quo, which made them to question His legitimacy

*4) Public Challenge to Their Authority*

Jesus taught with authority and performed miracles that drew large crowds.

His actions, such as cleansing the temple, directly challenged the leaders' jurisdiction over religious practices.

By questioning Him publicly, they hoped to undermine His credibility among the people.

*5) Jealousy and Pride*

The religious leaders were envious of Jesus’ popularity and influence.

His teachings resonated with the common people, while the leaders struggled to gain such widespread respect.

Their pride made it difficult for them to accept that God might work through someone outside their circle of power.

*6)  Testing Him to Discredit Him*

By questioning Jesus’ authority, they hoped to trap Him into claiming divine authority openly.

If He did, they could accuse Him of blasphemy; if He denied it, they could discredit Him before His followers.

Questions are good, if they are intended to know the deeper truth. But if they are used to target and defame others, then these questions have no meaning

People seeing Jesus in John

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Third Week : Sunday*

*Gospel :Lk 3:10-18*

*First Reading : Zep 3:14-18a*

*Responsorial Psalm :Is 12:2-3, 4, 5-6*

*Second Reading: Phil 4:4-7*

*People seeing Jesus in John*

*1) Crowds perception of Jesus in John*

The Gospel shows that John the Baptist's life and ministry served as a reflection of Jesus

Even though he never claimed to be the Christ, but because his words, actions, people saw Jesus in John.

John is an example for all of us to reflect Jesus in and through our life

When our life becomes a mirror for Christ, we really achieve the purpose of our life.

Can people see Jesus in us as they saw Him in John?

*2) Extraordinary qualities of John*

The Humility of John was something great and exceptional

When asked if he was the Messiah, he humbly responded, “I am not the Christ” (John 1:20).

He declared his mission: to “prepare the way for the Lord” (Isaiah 40:3).

In John 3:30, he famously said, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

The virtue of Humility makes us to reflect the image of Christ in and through our life

*3) How Can People See Jesus in Us?*

*A) By Living in Christ’s Love*

Jesus said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35).

When our actions are rooted in selfless love, forgiveness, and compassion, people encounter Christ through us.

*B) Through Our Actions and Words:*

In Matthew 5:16, Jesus teaches, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Our daily actions, choices, and how we treat others reveal whether Christ truly lives in us.

*C) By Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit*

Galatians 5:22-23 lists the fruit of the Spirit:

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

When these qualities are evident in our lives, people see the character of Christ reflected in us.

*4)The important Question*

In the Gospel we have a very important question *What should we do?*

This is a very important question for our life

Today I must ask for myself.

What should I do to radiate Jesus in and through my life?

This question is very challenging, which needs a very strict and duscplined way of life

It is only through the lived life one can become another Christ in this world

*5) My call to radiate Jesus in and through my life*

This the purpose of my life. If I fail in this mission I fail in everything

Do my actions and words draw others to Christ?

Am I allowing the Holy Spirit to work through me, transforming me into a living reflection of Jesus?

Am I humble and willing, like John, to point people to Jesus rather than seeking recognition for myself?

Elijah - The Prophet of Fire

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Second Week : Saturday*

*Gospel : Mt 17:9a, 10-13*

*First Reading : Sir 48:1-4, 9-11*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 80:2ac and 3b, 15-16, 18-19*

*Elijah - The Prophet of Fire*

*1) The Prophet of Fire*

Elijah is often called the *prophet of fire* because of the dramatic instances in Scripture where fire from heaven plays a central role in his ministry.

There is a close connection between fire and the Elijah's life

The various events of fire in the life of Elijah highlight the power and presence of God in his life

The events also  establish him as a symbol of divine authority, judgment, and holiness.

*2) Fire on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:16–39)*

The most famous instance of Elijah’s association with fire is his confrontation with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel.

To prove that Yahweh is the one true God, Elijah prayed, and God sent fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice

*First* of all this fire showed the power of God, *Secondly* it exposed the futility of idol worship and *Thirdly* it  led the people of Israel to repentance.

*3) Fire of Judgment (2 Kings 1:9–12)*

When King Ahaziah sent soldiers to capture Elijah, fire from heaven consumed two groups of fifty men who came arrogantly to seize him.

This act of judgment emphasized that Elijah was under divine protection and that God’s authority could not be challenged.

*4) The Fiery Chariot (2 Kings 2:11)*

Elijah's departure from earth was marked by a chariot of fire and horses of fire that took him up to heaven in a whirlwind.

This event highlights his unique role as a prophet who lived in close communion with God and was taken directly into His presence.

*5) Foreshadowing of John the Baptist*

In the New Testament, John the Baptist is somehow linked to Elijah (Luke 1:17; Matthew 17:10–13).

Both are described as fiery figures who called people to repentance and prepared the way for God’s work.

Their ministry shows God's power, judgment, and purification through fire. Fire is closely associated with their ministry

Elijah’s *fire* becomes a symbol of his role as a reformer and herald of God’s presence.

*6) A Call to Be Prophets of Fire*

Elijah’s life challenges us to become prophets of fire in our own time.

In a world often darkened by evil forces. In this context we are called upon to carry the refining fire to the every area of our life

The fire which is the symbol of God's Power, Presence Purity, and Holiness may consume us to refine our self into new creation, for the coming of Jesus

The dangerous attitude of finding fault with everything

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Second Week : Friday*

*Gospel : Mt 11:16-19*

*First Reading : Is 48:17-19*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6*

*The dangerous attitude of finding fault with everything*

*1) The attitude of Finding Fault*

One of the most dangerous attitude of human beings is finding fault with others

When a person finds fault with everything, this becomes most dangerous attitude of the person

Such a person sees wrong in everything. There is nothing right in anything which they come across in their life

*2) Gospel on Finding fault with everything*

The Gospel of the day speaks about the attitude of finding fault with everything

There are series of diffent types of events which are recorded in the Gospel

In every event, the so called *this generation* finds fault with everything

*3) The Happy Event*

The Gospel recounts a happy event, where the so called generation should have danced or rejoiced about the situation

But they exhibited a sad face or cold reaction to the situation

*We played the flute for you, but you did not dance,*

*4) Sad Event*

The Gospel also recounts a sad event where these people should have exhibited sad face because of the situation

Instead they exhibited a rejoicing or a indifferent attitude to the situation

*We sang a dirge but you did not mourn.’*

*5) The Person of John the Baptist*

John came to prepare the way for the Messiah

He was rigours in life and followed a very strict discipline in life

He practiced penance and extreme asceticism.

He was morally upright man. He was a integrated person.

He had the courage to condemn evil and immorality

In such a saintly person the so called generation saw the demon *‘He is possessed by a demon*

This didn't have anything but the demon to see in his life

*6) The Person of Jesus Christ*

He was the Messiah. He was the Son of God.

Worked many miracles and  healed many people

He was among the people. Mixing with them and sharing their joys and sorrows

He was one with people. He attended their celebrations and evey event of their life

He mixed with sinners and ate with them

So they saw a strange person in Jesus. *A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners*

*7) Root Cause*

The root cause of this attitude is the wrong perception that *I am right in everything*

I am always right. I can't make mistakes

Only others commit mistakes

This is the another shadow of the Pride

*8) Always seeing the opposite*

This is dangerous disorder which can harm many

This attitude can spoil the good name of others

This attitude can destroy a person

The scribes and Pharisees tried to do this about John and Jesus

What about me?

Do I have this attitude of finding fault with everything?

At the same time the attitude *I am right in everything*

*Think about it*

Being in the Kingdom of God, can become greater than John

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Second Week : Thursday*

*Gospel :Mt 11:11-15*

*First Reading : Is 41:13-20*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 145:1 and 9, 10-11, 12-13ab*

*Being in the Kingdom of God, can become greater than John*

*1) The Greatness of John*

In today's Gospel, we hear about John the Baptist and His greatness

Jesus says *among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist*

This shows the greatness of John, who prepared the way for the Lord

*2) The Follower can become greater than John*

There is no doubt that John is a great prophet, who had command and authority to prepare the way of the Lord

His integrity of Life so great, no one can match to that

He had great courage and strength to condemn the evil deeds and immorality

*Yet* Jesus says *the least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater than he.*

How this is possible?

*3) The Reality of the Kingdom of God*

The Kingdom of God becomes a actual reality only with the arrival of Jesus

It is Jesus who brought the Kingdom of God and Established the Kingdom of God here on Earth

So John could not be the part of the Kingdom of God. He only prepared the way for the Kingdom of God

When we talk about the Kingdom of God, these things are really found in it

The presence of Jesus
The fullness of God's revelation in the person of Jesus Christ
The Mission of Jesus
The great Miracles and healings of Jesus
The passion, death and Resurrection of Jesus
The ascension of Jesus
The coming of the Holy Spirit
The power of the Sacraments
The Eucharist
The Church, Mystical body of Jesus

All these things John could not see or he was not the part of it

*4) Being in the Kingdom of God*

The Kingdom of God is a great reality, which is actuality after the arrival of Jesus

Today we have been called to become the part of this Kingdom

We have the best opportunity to become the part of this Kingdom and to experience Jesus very closely

*5)  Kingdom makes us greater than John*

According to Jesus, one who is the part of the Kingdom, one who is inside the Kingdom, one who follows the commands and demands of the Kingdom will be greater than John in the Kingdom of Heaven

*6) Great Privilege given to Us*

To the followers of Jesus great opportunities are given, even to become greater than John

Such a great chance we can hardly think of, but it is a reality

If so,  am I ready to become the part of the Kingdom of God?

Do I wish to come inside and remain inside the Kingdom of God, which makes me greater than John?

Shared burden is a lightened burden

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Second Week : Wednesday*

*Gospel : Mt 11:28-30*

*First Reading : Is 40:25-31*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 103:1-2, 3-4, 8 and 10*

*"Shared burden is a lightened burden"*

*1) Universality of the Burden*

Burden is one of the most touching experiences of our life

There is no person in the world who is without burden

Everyone who has been born into this world as human being has to under go some or other type of burden

Burden shows no discrimination with the human beings. For burden everyone is same

So burden is a reality of life

*2) Burden is not taken away but shared*

From the Gospel it is clear. Jesus calls to himself to all who are crushed under the burden of life

*Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.*

Here Jesus is not taking away our burden. But he is sharing our burden. In this way the burden becomes light

*3) The Magic of the Yoke*

In the process of sharing the burden, Jesus makes use of one of the most effective instruments called *Yoke*

Yoke is a powerful instrument to share the burden and to lighten it

The Yoke equally shares the burden among the two oxen.

So Jesus' Yoke lightens our burden and give us special strength to continue our mission

*4) Jesus' Yoke*

Jesus says *My yoke is easy, and my burden light.”*

This is because Jesus carries the burden of our life

This is because Jesus walks besides us

This is because he teaches us the best method to carry the burden along with Him

This is because Jesus does not give us the burden beyond our capacity to carry

*5) The Mountain of Burden*

There is not only the physical burden, which we often think, when we think about burden

There are other forms of burden, which make our life more miserable and difficult

The physical burden
The emotional burden
The economical burden
The spiritual burden
The psychological burden
The burden of the sickness
The burden of the loneliness
The burden of work

There are more types of burden in today's world

*6) My collaboration for the Yoke*

Am I ready to collaborate with Jesus' Yoke

Jesus is always ready to share my burden. But what about me?

How many times have I experienced the sharing of my burden with Jesus?

Do I  believe that Shared burden is a lightened burden?

Majority, Minority and Every Individual

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Second Week : Tuesday*

*Gospel : Mt 18:12-14*

*First Reading : Is 40:1-11*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 96:1-2, 3 and 10ac, 11-12, 13*

*Majority, Minority and Every Individual*

*1) The Logic of Majority and Minority*

Today the world is ruled after these principles

In some places it is the majority which decides everything

In some other places it is the minority decides everything for everyone

In the majority, minority is left out. In the minority the majority is left out

*2) The Logic of Every Individual*

In the God's logic, the concept of Majority and minority does not work

For God's Logic, the evey individual person is very important

In this logic no one is left out. Everyone is considered, valued and counted

This is the logic of God

*3) The Parable of the Lost Sheep*

The parable of the lost sheep speaks about one sheep which went away from the crowd

This little sheep is spoken about in the Gospel, shows that God's logic works for evey individual person

In other words, every individual person is very important for God

*4) Inclusive and left out*

This parable shows that all the 100 sheeps belong to the shepherd

All 100 sheeps are very important and valuable to the Shepherd

When the shepherd goes in search of one lost sheep it shows the inclusive philosophy of God's logic

In God's philosophy there is no *left out* ones. All are included. All are protected by God

*5) Great Transformation*

When the lost individual is brought back, the individual comes back to the fold and there we see the great transformation

If the individual is left out, the group will never become complete

By giving importance to every individual, God wants to make the mankind complete and whole, which got divided, because of the sin of Adam

*6) We are all lost Sheep*

All of represent the lost sheep

In one way or the other we are lost from the crowd of Holiness

Jesus is in search of us. Every one is valuable to him

We need the loving touch of Jesus and the tender mercy of God

God is ever ready for this great mission. But the question is am I ready??

Mary is an inspiration to live a Holy Life

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Second Week : Monday*

*Immaculate Conception of Mary - Solemnity*

*Gospel : Lk 1:26-38*

*First Reading : Gn 3:9-15, 20*

*Responsorial Psalm :Ps 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4*

*Second Reading - Eph 1:3-6, 11-12*

*Mary is an inspiration to live a Holy Life*

*1) Immaculate conception of Mary*

This feast tells us that Mary was conceived with any stain of sin, and original sin

She was not affected by the original sin or any other sins as well

That's the meaning of immaculate conception

*2) Immaculate conception is a special privilege*

It is a special privilege granted to Mary by God

It is only Mary who enjoyed this special privilege

It is a special gift of God to our Blessed Mother

*3) Immaculate conception reveals God's Plan*

God had a great and special plan to save the mankind

Immaculate conception of Mary could be considered as the part of God's salvific plan

To send His Son, God was preparation His way through the Blessed Virgin Mary

So God gave  this privilege to Mary

In a way, this event reveals God's salvific plan to the mankind

*4) Immaculate Conception and the Holiness*

This feast and the event in the life of Mary, highlights the importance of Holiness

Above all God valued the Holiness of Mary and God desires such a holiness from every one

Every day God calls us every one to the Holiness, which is seen in the Life of Mary

*5) Mary as great Model*

There is no doubt that Mary is a great model for us

She is a model for purity, charity, faith and humility

We can  learn lot of things from Mary. That's why she is model for all and at all times

*6) Mary's invitation to all*

As we celebrate the solemnity of the immaculate conception of Mary, she invites all of us to a life of Holiness

Secondly Mary invites us to know the will of God and to submit ourselves to the will of God

Mary also invites us to  accept the challenges in life when it comes doing something better for the other

Am I ready to follow the footsteps of our Blessed Mother?

Repair, Maintenance and Preparation

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: Second Week : Second Sunday*

*Gospel : Lk 3:1-6*

*First Reading : Baruch 5:1-9*

*Responsorial Psalm : 126: 1-6*

*Second Reading : Philippians 1:4-6, 8-11*

*Repair, Maintenance and Preparation*

*1) Repair and Maintenance*

These are two important words, which play a very important role in our life

Very often we hear these words, and there is no end for repair and maintenance

If one fails to pay attention to repair and maintenance, then there is a greater danger of collapsing the whole thing

Therefore one should pay attention to these words

*2) John the Baptist on Repair and maintenance*

In the Gospel of the day, John speaks about repair and maintenance as a preparation for Jesus coming

In John's advice on repair and maintenance, there are 4 things which are very important

*A)  Repair of the Valley* Filling of the valley takes the primary place in repairing the path

*B) Repiar of Mountain and Hills* They should be brought low so that way may be possible for the Lord

*C) Repair of the Roads* especially to pay attention to the curves to make straight

*D) Repair of the Ways* especially those ways which are rough

These rough ways should be made smooth so that one can travel comfortably

*3) Repair in Life*

Ultimately John speaks about the repair in our life

Repair in life is more demanding, difficult and challenging

Repair in life involves many things

Unless one repairs ones life, there can't be growth

Repair in life is a continuous process

*4) Things which need Repair in our life*

*Repair of the valley:*

Valleys are to be filled

The valley of sin
The valley of arrogance
The valley of anger
The valley of pride

These valleys can be filled with holiness, love, simplicity and though the other values

*Repair the Mountains and Hills*

The mountain and Hill of ego
The mountain and hill of selfishness
The mountain and hill of unfaithfulness
The mountain and hill of revenge

Through the Power of the Word of God one can repair these mountains and Hills

*Repair the Roads*

In our spiritual life roads are very important. They lead us to Jesus, to the others, to heaven, to the needy and to the lost ones

So the need to repair the roads is very essential

*Repair of the way*
This way shows us what is good and what is bad. The way which leads us to heaven. Such ways are to be made smooth for the better journey

*5) JCB for the Repair and Maintenance*

In today's system the JCB takes the primary place in repair

In our Spiritual life The Word of God works like a JCB, which is very powerful, having two sharp edges, that can cut anything

Word of God is so powerful, it can simply repair all the roads, valleys, hills and mountains and rough ways

*6) Am I ready for Repair?*

Repair is very essential in our life

One who does not pay attention to the repair, later it becomes very difficult and at times, it goes out of control and the whole thing can be collapsed

Spiritual repair is more important than the material repair

What are the areas which need repair in my life?

*Think about it*

Need of the team work for God's Mission

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: First Week : Saturday*

*Gospel : Mt 9:35–10:1, 5a, 6-8*

*First Reading : Is 30:19-21, 23-26*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 147:1-2, 3-4, 5-6*

*Need of the team work for God's Mission*

*1) The Mission of the Twelve*

In today's Gospel we see Jesus is sending his disciples for the mission

The primary purpose of choosing the disciples is for the mission

Jesus chose 12 disciples to be with him and to be sent out

Today's Gospel helps to reflect about the sending of the disciples for the Mission

*2) The need of the team*

From the Gospel it is very clear that, the mission of the Lord is carried out through the team

It is not the one who can continue the mission, but it is the team which takes the responsibility of spreading the Gospel

*3) The Nature of the mission*

There are three important areas of the mission is highlighted in the Gospel

Preaching, Healings and building the kingdom of God is the message of Jesus

Such a mission can't not be carried out by single or few persons.

In this context the need of the team for building the Kingdom of God

*4) The demand for strengthening the team*

In the Gospel we also see the prayers and demand for more labourers

Jesus says *The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”*

So, in the Modern world there is a heavy demand for labourers

The strengthening the team of the disciples is the need of the hour

*5) Prayer and the Resources*

The Gospel clearly says that, there is a need for more labourers

To meet this demand  first of all, we need to pray for the labourers. This is a very of the  power of the prayer

Secondly, am ready to say yes to the call of Jesus and be the part of Jesus' mission ??

*6) Examples of Strengthening, Jesus' Team*

By being a genuine Christian

Following the Gospel values

Practicing the values of Jesus

By being generos towords others

By forgiving others

There are many opportunities which helps is to strengthen the relationship with others

Am I ready to be a part of Jesus' Team

Do you believe that I can do this?”

GOSPEL THOUGHTS

*Advent Season: First Week : Friday*

*Gospel : Mt 9:27-31*

*First Reading : Is 29:17-24*

*Responsorial Psalm : Ps 27:1, 4, 13-14*

*“Do you believe that I can do this?”*

*1) A question to examine ourselves*

In today's Gospel we have this particular question

In fact this question was asked by Jesus to the blind men who followed Him

This is a question which is not only asked for those blind men, but it can be applied to us as well

This is a question which can be asked to any one at any situation to draw lessons from it

This is a question ultimately makes us to think about ourselves and our personality

*2) Multiple angles of this question*

From the Gospel we see one angle of the question. That is Jesus asking this question to the Blind men

This is a question, which God is asking to me

This is a question,  which my self is asking to me

This is a question, which a particular situation is asking to me

This is a question, which  my duty is asking to me

This is a question, which my commitment to Jesus is asking to me

This is a question, which a hopeless situation asking to me

This is a question, which my conscience can ask to me

This is a question, which the nature around me can ask

This is a question, which is tiny creature in the world arround me can ask me

This is a question, which *water* can ask me

This is a question which the *Air* created by God can ask me

This is a question, which the *Mud* arround carroundme

*3) God's Power and this Question*

Since this question was aJesusby Jesus to the blind, there is a possibility to doubt about Jesus' capacity to heal the blind men

But in no way, this is question to doubt about the capacity of Jesus

But it only gives us the opportunity to express our deep faith in Jesus

God is always powerful and there is nothing beyond Gods power.

This question only to reflect the depth of our faith

*4) The Aspect of Faith*

The aspect of faith is always related to human beings

When we relate with God, we need the aspect of faith.

The healing of the blind men always related to the aspect of faith

Finally it is the faith of the  blind men which healed them

Jesus says *“Let it be done for you according to your faith.”*

*5) Beauty of Multiple approach*

Having multiple approach to this question will change the perspective of our life

This question in a way connects God, Neighbor and the Nature

This question helps us to have a balanced approach towards everything

So am I ready to believe in the power of God?

Am I ready to believe in the power of the self?

Am I ready to believe in the power of the other?

Am I ready to believe in the power of the nature?

Am I ready to believe in the power of every tiny creature in the Nature?
